Just wondering - who here plays MTG? I, for one, am addicted - I've played for about two years now and have a pretty beastly angel deck.
Yeah I used too. God knows how many blocks have come out since I quit. I used to run a freak of an Elf deck. And a mean ass Zombie deck. I miss this game though. You know who is a freak about Magic though? Hodapp.
I always forget that there is one. I still need to invest in that sometime. How exactly does it work if you don't mind me asking? Do you like... purchase packs of cards in game? and build decks from that? Do you win games and win cards? Is there a decent community for it?
There's a pretty decent community I hear. It's been in the XBLA top 10 forever... They released some card packs too for I think 400 MS Points a pop. As for winning cards, I'm not sure. I only played the trial but I was hooked immediately.
Very true. Have I ever played Magic: The Gathering? Yes, back when it was introduced in 1993 - 1994, but not in the last 15+ years since then. Have a shoebox full of cards buried in my office somewhere... maybe some of them are valuable?
Hmmm cause I would totally get into that. Just something about purchasing cards that I can't physically hold (especailly the amount I would blow on cards) irks me so... but I'll have to look more into it. Thanks man. Edit: Speaking of, talking about this game makes me that much more excited for Shadow Era.
I used to have a set of two decks, but after a while I lost interest in it, since my cousin was the only other one I knew who played it. I can't find all of the cards in a set, but I can find most of them scattered around in containers of old stuff. To be honest, the only TCG I ever got into was Yu-Gi-Oh. As crappy as the show was, the game was a ton of fun. The rules mostly made sense (as opposed to Duel Masters where you could directly attack your opponent at any time), the cards were pretty awesome and easy to find, and everyone was playing at the time, so it was never that hard to find an opponent. I also had the GBA game The Eternal Duelist Soul, so I basically could play whenever I wanted (unfortunately I lost it, and recently purchased a used copy of it at Gamestop which turned out to be a ROM loaded into a cartridge which won't save my progress ). I still have a container full of cards that I'd collected over the years, and if anyone wanted to play, I'd still gladly play. We need a good Magic the Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh game for the iPhone, complete with online play. I'd get it without second thought.
Dude. I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh for lunch money when I was in High School... No one at school could beat me, literally. I had a feind based deck, with the Yata-Garasu card stopper. Cheap as shit but you couldn't win. I played in tournaments, which was lame because nearly every freaking card was illigal (Including Monster Reborns...) so needless to say, with the cards I was dealt, I only ever made it in 2nd place as the best I ever did. I played the WoW TCG for a while too all up untill Drums of War. Anyone play it? It was fun as hell. I think it made the most sense and the idea of playing as a hero and not just as yourself made it feel more "RPG" if you will. Me and some buddies got down in that game. And best of all, no cards were illigal in tournaments (won 1st place twice in draft play). We all pooled our cards together and just created all 9 classes and made superior decks of them. It was fun and fresh cause we had so many decks to share and choose from that it didn't get so boring so fast. But inevitably, we grew out of it and it got to be too expensive of a habbit for me to keep up with
Before I spent the entire month of June traveling between conferences and this month sweating my balls off in NYC I played standard M:TG every Friday and did drafts most Sundays. I haven't been able to play at all since M11 was released, and I'm actually more than a little annoyed that they reprinted Baneslayer Angel. I've dabbled in a bunch of other CCG's, but none have the depth and complexity of M:TG.
Wow... The most I did was play in some Yu-Gi-Oh thing that they had at the local Toys R Us on Saturday mornings... It was definitely worth it, I made some good (and not so good... I traded Jinzo for two crappy cards...) trades, and scored a free card every time I went as well as a Thousand Eyes Restrict for doing certain things game-related. I wasn't all that great, and I usually ended up getting destroyed in tournaments, etc. I was in elementary school back then, so I guess I had reason to be crappy. I didn't have that many cards in comparison to a lot of people I knew. I got all of the original starter decks and a newer Kaiba one, and then mostly got random packs here and there for birthdays, etc. and trades. I was pretty obsessed with it for a while (and wanted to beat the crap outta some kids in my class after they stole all of my good cards in 3rd grade), even to the point of getting one of those things that you wore on your arm and could use as a way to play on the go when there was no table around that they used in the Battle City season of the show (pretty pathetic that I still know that... ). I'd even bring my deck almost anywhere I went, and since it was gigantic, if anyone wanted to play but didn't have a deck, I'd just split it in half. And I knew cards like Monster Reborn were restricted in tournaments, but I didn't know they were completely banned... That seems a bit overkill. Btw, I think they still have an online Yu-Gi-Oh game for the PC that's free to download. I remember seeing it a while back, but I wonder if anyone plays anymore. As nerdy as it sounds, I kinda want to play that game again now... The World of Warcraft one seems pretty fun. If there's a game of it (since it's much easier to get the game rather than pay for all those cards), I'll give it a shot sometime.
I wish I could get in to playing M:TG online, but I feel like a ****ing dipshit every time I buy virtual cards. Yet, I seem to have no problem having over $500 worth of singles in the three decks I've got collecting dust on my deck that I haven't played since May.
hahaha that's epic you had one of those arm things. I always wanted one just to have it but knew I would kill myself if I went that far ahahha. I owe my success in the game and the good cards I got to my skills in theivery. I had a friend who was... well bad. Very bad (like stole sh!t all the time bad) and I got so obsessed with the game that we started stealing packs from Wal-Mart. The local Wal-Mart here are ran by retards. And we started off with taking a back-pack in the store and putting a few packs of cards in and looting when we got home. Then it escalated to entire boxes (yes... 24 freaking packs) I know it was bad but it sort of because an addiction. It was so fun, and not to mention all the great cards we got. After maybe the 10th or 11th time we stopped cause I knew we were bound to get caught sometime. I never stole anything else the rest of my life really. But yeah that game was like crack to me. hahahaa I literally stole to keep the addiction alive! I'm not proud of it but I was young and stupid as hell. Plus the money I was making from the rich kids with terribly put together decks (They too had like 70 card decks and relied on Blue-Eyes just to win...) helped with lunch money since my family wasn't always able to give some to me (not their fault...). So I was able to eat. Plus above all, the game was a lot of fun. I hope the WoW TCG comes as a game. I'd encourage everyone to play it. Sucks you don't get to play as much at all man. But I feel you. It's the same way with me and virtual cards. But I have spent $50 bucks a piece on a few singles myself... it's an expensive habbit. hahahaah
Wow MTG - I started to play that back in 94 or so. Then played religiously for about 5 or 6 years. Then gave it up (costing too much money), started again for a couple of years, then gave it up again (same reason). I even entered an official tournament - had a 1-1 record but then lost out because I was late back from lunch, and missed the final game of the round! Used to have some really nice cards but have since sold a lot of the more valuable ones. MTG for iPhone would be cool
That's awesome... Basically ended up becoming stealing out of necessity. At least you saw the error of your ways. Since I was a kid, I could convince my parents to get me a pack here and there more easily than a high-schooler could. At least it wasn't around at the same time as the App Store... I would have been torn between getting a new app or a pack of cards. Usually, packs didn't help me much, but I remember getting one pack that had this pretty rare card in it, and it was actually a pretty good card too. It was 200+ Attack for one tribute, plus it had a pretty good effect... I think it's called the Chaos Command Magician, if I'm right (I gotta check that again). I mostly relied on trades and booster decks, where I knew what I was getting. I also remember playing Eternal Duelist Soul to the point where I ended up re-locking Yugi's grandfather after beating Yugi over 100 times... Maybe I played that game a bit too much. As for the arm thing, I actually have two. One was mine, which I fell on and broke the arm thing off of, which is still usable, but you can't fold it back into its original position, and the other is my cousin's, which he gave to me when he was getting rid of it. I remember them making a newer one soon after, which was more of an 'evil' one (it's the only way I can think to describe it). I unfortunately never got one of those, though.
Being that M:TG came into the world before I did, I have only recently gotten into it...and believe me, it's an addiction rivaling my iPod
