Well, not for my wallet, maybe it's a bad idea after all! Seriously, It would be nice if the game was free with a few cards and then you paid for additional cards. What do you guys think?

I've been thinking the very same thing. Think of how slick it would be to have any of the following...

    • In-App Card Deck Purchasing
    • In App Specific Card Purchasing
    • User vs. Computer(s)
    • Live Games (via BlueTooth, WiFi, ad-hoc WiFi, etc)
    • Turn-by-Turn Games (w/ Push Notifications to announce game updates)
    • Social Network (custom, Plus+, OpenFeint, other)
    • Gamer Sandbox (try out any card in an exhibition game to determine if you'd like to add it to your personal collection)
    • Card Trading within the Social Network
    • Etc.
I'm sure I'm missing tons of aspects to the game and it's been forever since I've played it, but in general it could be such a great fit to the iPhone/iTouch system. Hopefully they're already busy working on an implementation.

I'm not a fan of the buying cards thing. Mainly because i buy magic cards religiously at stores, and then having to buy them in the app will be too much for me. Maybe instead of buying cards there can be like if you win a battle you get a pack, i don't know just don't think paying double for magic would be fun.

    M:TG (buying cards?!)

I really do not think the same dynamic would be at work. It was one thing to rip the shrink on a new box of Legends/Antiquities/Whatever, looking for the coolest cards in the set and quite another thing to "open" something you cannot feel or touch. The tactile element was immensely satisfying. Also, anyone who is going to buy an M:TG app has already invested a HUGE amount of money in cards, so an additional sizable investment is out of the question.

At $9.99 and no further investment, an M:TG app would find a ready and large audience. At $4.99 and $0.99 incrementals up to a max of $9.99 for certain accomplishments, awarding new cards or sets, the game would do equally well.

It's clear the time is right and I have no clue why this has not appeared yet. Then again, I've always wondered why another set from Orions has not appeared. More of this category is needed and much of what is available right now does not pass muster, at least in my book.

  8. Well I wouldn't mind the new LCG format (Living Card Game) where base set and expansions come out all with full sets of cards like Fantasy Flight is doing with Call of Cthulhu and Warhammer now for instance kinda like Blue Moon has done since 2004. I did try mtg on xbox live demo and didn't get to far....just can't imagine sitting playing a card game on the big screen. So yes the iphone would be great.

Just 2 days ago I was trying out magic force (ai java), firemox, lackey ccg and others but yea not gonna happen I gave up.

My next best thing is elements the game which I've heard is sort of like mtg but much more simple and the only rare cards you get by a spin 4% chance to win em if you played against them. I play on the iphone sometimes at nite with remote control app since it is a free flash game.
