i've never played this game so i'm sorry to interrupt your discussions but let me ask one question then i'll shut up. i've downloaded the free version to my iPad 2 and the description says it comes with 3 decks. i only have 2, the red and the green. where is the third? i'm guessing i have to win something but they didn't state a deck needed to be unlocked, only cards. can anyone help please?
Yeah that's what I was saying. I just sort of keep flicking them as if to 'play' them. You're being force to discard because the most cards you can have in your hand is 7
I don't want it to do things without my confirmation, I just want to have the interface actually go so I don't have to wait on it. For example, why can't I tap my creatures to attack as fast as I want? Why do I have to wait for it to play the entire moving and tapping animation beforehand? Why do I have to see the word "Block!" slowly scroll across the screen before I can choose my blockers? Why does it wait so long to light up the red circle before I can skip over my own combat phase? I wish it were more like Ascension regarding the play speed of the animations and general responsiveness. I honestly just got bored, despite loving the game, because the interesting strategic decisions per minute are just too low in this game, solely due to the interface and animations gumming up the game.
Blue, scroll the decks with your finger to find it--there are a lot of decks and it's not obvious that the deck selector is a carousel from the design.
@Plynx thanks but i realized it was a carousel and only Born of Flame (red) and Pack Instinct (green) are available. if Dream Puppets is blue, it's locked, and all the others are too...??
Blocking There is defininitely something screwy with blocking. Needs to be fixed. In situations where I know I should be able to block, it doesn't work about half the time.
thanks my friend, i thought i might be something like that. i was just about to re-install it to see if that was it.
Don't forget to register to get your physical card pack if you bought the game. http://www.wizards.com/promo/duelsoftheplaneswalkers13/default.aspx?m=ipad That's the last time I played Magic also. That was a LONG time ago!
Well, if you were to build a real MTG deck, it would cost you WAY more than $10.....this app is a steal.
You've got to be kidding me. You really must. Those games are worth, and deserve, to be paid full price. Some of them hurt me that they ever went in sale. Why, you ask? Because of that mentality. And it's a shame. It's that mentality that is forcing the app store to cave in on itself. But it's your loss. And it makes me hope they never put it on sale, for the very reason that it is worth every single penny. Go try and get it for that price on PSN or XBLA. That's the only comparison you can make, because not only is it as good as those versions, it's better. Far better. To be able to see the cards and text up close is enough to soar this beyond the other versions, but to control it by touch is unbelievable. I always hated trying to control it on the Xbox, the controller was so unintuitive where the touch screen is a dream. And on top of all of this, it runs perfectly on the iPad 1. Not so much as a hiccup. So continue to not pay what the games are worth. I'm sorry to hear that, and I hope that this mentality isn't shared by enough people that it ruins the app store, at least not more than it's already been ruined.
True, but it's not competing with physical games for me. It's competing with other iOS games - and much it's one I really want, it's not worth the price of ten other games to me. Just to be clear - I'm not saying the price is unreasonable. Just that the price puts it out of my range.
I'm not sure why you think the app store is being ruined. From where I stand it's a glorious place where you can get apps for next to nothing (and often actually nothing), but publishers still make the same amount of money because the volume of sales is so high. I often get the impression that some people would prefer to keep the price high even if it means that so few people buy it that the publisher winds up making less money than if it were cheaper. And that makes no sense to me.
Not sure why people moaning about the price? It's free. Anyway, just thought I would say that the game is fabulous. For a cross platform game it feels like its custom made for iPad. The optional purchase online is perfect. I'm very glad I made my optional purchase within this free game.
The problem is people are expecting apps will go for a pittance, and that developers seem forced to drop their price to sell games. It kills me to know that some games have had to drop their price because the games were either not noticed or that people expect the app store to not sell apps over a dollar or two. I highly, highly, highly doubt that a game line Carcassonne ever should go for under $5-10. Same with Ticket to Ride, or World of Goo, and so on. The way it should be is that developers should be able to ask a fair price of their games, and that people would realize there is value in the games, and that they are worth it because of the time, effort and quality of the games. The "they would sell more and make more if the games were cheap" mentality is wrong. And I disagree that devs that put thousands and thousands of dollars into games should be forced to sell them for next to nothing. WoC gets $7 for every copy they sell. You couldn't even buy a starter deck for that, and sure this is an electronic version, but the effort and energy, polish and care that they put into this deserves at least that. They brought the full console game to ios at the same price point, and I'm proud of that. I'm proud of supporting them. it was an instant buy, because it's a steal that I can play this wherever, whenever and on both iPads for one price.
I bought the $9.99 IAP as soon as the pop-up appears. I am a big fan of Magic The Gathering and finally glad I can take it wherever I go.
Why? So that the devs feel good about themselves in the knowledge that the people who are spending money are spending a lot? Why can't they get the same joy from knowing that millions of people are playing the game - spending less each, but making the devs more money? All I'm getting from this is a sense from you feel that something of a high quality 'should' have price to match - even if it costs the publishers money to do so. That makes no business sense for digital downloads. Unlike with physical objects, if a publisher can half the price to make more than double the number of sales then they will make more money, so they'd be silly not to do it. (Obviously I have no idea whether dropping the price of the IAP would make them more money. It's the idea that they should keep prices high regrdless of profit because of some concept of what the software is "worth" that completely baffles me.)
This might sound like a strange request, but can anyone help me enjoy this game? I really like the art, setting, interface, but I just can't seem to be able to get into the gameplay at all. The rules just feel so...arbitrary. Ths card does this, and this card does that...well why does it do "this" or "that?" There just doesn't appear to be any inherent logic to any of it and nothing feels intuitive. I keep thinking there is some "hook" I must be missing, but the penny just won't drop. Perhaps I just have a blind spot for the genre; I've never really been able to get into any other card games like this one either, just thought with the reputation this one has it might be my best shot. But no dice. Any suggestions?
