GREAT game, but the animations take too long to finish. I fell asleep once while waiting for my opponent's turn
Go into options and turn off the "Combat Animations" and "Zoom on Card" if you want to speed stuff up. I also have found the "Hold on Priority", while it means more button presses on your part, is pretty important if you don't want the computer to cut you off mid pump.
Hey, would anyone be kind enough to answer the following question and let me know when the data erasing bug is fixed so I can then purchase the full version? Thanks. Now the question: How do you mulligan? The game starts as soon as my hand is drawn...
You cannot mulligan in the free version. In the full game every match begins with a prompt to continue with your drawn hand or mulligan.
I really like the new mulligan system as you get one free complete redraw BUT THEN can even redraw after that if you so desire but at a penalty of 1 less card in your hand each time. So get you hand of 7 cards but don't like it, mulligan. Don't like the new hand? Go ahead and mulligan again to redraw a 6 card hand and so on. Since the AI clearly suffers mana screw from time to time, I assume they never mulligan?
This is a great game, but I've completely stopped playing it - I'm waiting for the data loss bug to be addressed (it's been over a month!). I can't bear to play further, knowing that either any future play will make my lost data irrecoverable, or that I might lose all future data again. The bug definitely seems to be related to connection issues - do not play Magic 2013 if GameCenter is having problems, or you're on a patchy connection.
The workaround that has been published seems very reliable though. I've seen very very few reports of people actually losing everything once they've tried the workaround (if any). 1. Log out of Gamecenter 2. Open Magic 3. Log in to Gamecenter 4. Go back to Magic 5. Profit
Wizards support gave me slightly more comprehensive steps, although they boil down to the same thing: Step 1: Log out of the Gamecenter using the iPad Gamecenter Application. Step 2: Load Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 Step 3: When the client asks for your Gamecenter ID, hit 'Cancel'. Step 4: The game will be loaded and you should show zero progress. Step 5: Go back to the Gamecenter Application and log in. Step 6: Switch back to Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 and you should see the message "You've been sent back to the start screen because you changed Gamecenter accounts." Step 7: Now when you hit "Start" it will reload your proper profile. Sadly, still no profile recovery using these steps. It definitely triggers a change - I had a previous single game played before logging into Gamecenter the first time, and it switches from that to zero matches - but nothing.
Tried to play multiplayer but the same issues still happen as before patch. First try it got stuck with the "Connecting" text on screen. Tries #2-5 it got stuck with just the background animation and music playing (I gave up after that). The only improvement is that it now automatically returns to the multiplayer menu after a while (previously you had to quit the app from multitasking menu and relaunch). Also didn't notice any big UI improvements, if anything the main menus seem to be worse now. But the game UI might behave little better now. Only played one vs AI match. Little disappointed of this patch so far. Hope they keep improving the game, especially the multiplayer connectivity issues and the UI needs some work. For example there's no need for selecting UI buttons (touch a button and white borders appears), the buttons should instead activate when the user touches them.
Thanks for the tip. Still I find it a bit slow compared to Ascension's lightning fast card draws. Oh well, what choices do I have.
It's great to see a patch released - hopefully they'll keep coming. Unfortunately, the new Game Center messaging is nice and clear, but my lost progress remains lost - when I sign into the new version, it shows my achievements but still 0 matches and 0 cards unlocked. wizards_jon, is that expected - are some situations not recoverable from? Is the data loss problem resolved, at least - the patch notes are a little unclear?
I don't see why that should be the case - I absolutely agree that iCloud saves would be awesome, but local saves could easily be keyed by GameCenter id and should already be backed up by iTunes as application data.
