I'm getting frustrated with certain mechanics not working right for me. I'm sure it's my lack of understanding rather than a bug....but I've lost several tames because I can't figure out how regenertion works.

In this case, I'm using a B/W deck, and the artifact (can't remember what it's called) that allos me to regenerate creature for a cost of 2. When someone attacks my equiped creature or targets it with a spell that would kill it, there's a "stop" to let me know what!s happening, but I can't activate the abiliy at this point. So I touch the arrow key and immediately try to activate regeneration, but by the time I double-tap my creature and flip to the equiped artifact, it's already dead and in my graveyard. What am I mising here? This game isn't supposed to require actual speed or dexterity, is it?

Tap the hourglass right above the arrow key before trying to activate your card abilities.
    This pauses the game.

It doesn't necessarily require dexterity but you do need to become familiar with card timing and resolution to realize when you should be stopping the clock to use abilities (before it is too late).

Planechase mode is really nutty. Good to see everything is coded pretty well.

As a veteran player though, the speed of the game is a tad slow

I've actually had trouble with regeneration in this as well. You should be able to activate it anytime, but this hasn't been my experience with it here.

I think a lot of it comes from the fact that you can't do ANYTHING at all while you are declaring attackers or blockers (except declaring blockers and attackers, of course). Once you initiate your attack or block, you have to hit the hour glass to freeze time and then play instants, activate regeneration, etc.

I assume it's simply a limitation of playing this in a digital environment, where the system has procedural steps for everything. When the computer says "ok, who a you blocking with?" and you're like "I wanna regenerate is dude", you're not answering the computer's question. So the computer simply forces you to assign your blockers during that time. You can still regenerate at any time, but when the system requires a specific input, you need to provide it.

Ok, so that's an awkward way of putting it, but I think you get the picture.

Hmm. I know that's the case, but it's quite possible I wasn't paying attention at the time, and I rarely play that deck. I'll check on it :)

(EDIT: Looks like you're right and I just missed my chance before. Thanks.)

BTW, does anyone know if "fights" (like in Garruk's deck) count as combat damage, or is combat damage still restricted to damage directly dealt in the combat phase?

I found the game much easier to manage when I turned on Hold Priority in Settings. This means you have to press the arrow to progress to the next phase it never does so automatically.

This has saved me so many times when I would miss my chance to pump my creatures and end up only having 0/1 creatures to attack with!

    Best decks are ( IMHO)

    1- Chandra
    2- Gurrak
    3- lilianna

Other are useless infront of them .. Just trouble makers in better words...

This is definitively a bug as it happens several time now.

At first main, I have one creature and one instant (plus few lands). They can be both played (I have enough untapped lands on the field).
If I click on the question mark for help ... My turns ends withou me playing a single card.
If I zoom on the instant to read the text, because I still do not know them all, instead of zooming the turn ends.

This is somewhat annoying because it happens always when I have built enough lands to play a good hand with a monster and instant in the same turn. Instead the turn ends without allowing me to play anything.

I agree (although you can pump after declaring attackers), and feel that it should be on by default.

I'm going to have to read the rules again to refresh the phases and what you can and cannot do in each phase. I'm confident with the basics, but am not so confident with my comprehension of rules.

I was going to provide an example, however, my situation is exactly like the Italian player (Jools75) stated in this thread: failure to read and comprehend what a card actually states. In my example, Chandra's Phoenix. I wondered why I couldn't return the card from my graveyard after causing damage. Upon closer examination of the card, the text states:

"Whenever an opponent is dealt damage by a red instant or sorcery spell you control, or by a red planeswalker you control, return Chandra's Phoenix from the graveyard to your hand".

I had killed my opponents creatures but had not damaged my opponent directly with either a red instant or red sorcery spell.

Note: once I've completed the full version and played multiplayer, I may decide to dip my toes into the water of MtGO and try the Pauper format i.e. only common rarity cards that were released in Magic Online are legal. Whilst not as fun maybe as building the metagame decks, it sounds like a cheap way to get into and understand the game.

I've certainly had tons of success with Chandra, but currently I'm smashing face with Yeva - it seems like her only bad matchup is Nefarox's Exalted deck, anything else you've got a really strong game and the best card drawing in any of these decks.

I'm terrible with the Yeva deck, but I hardly ever play green. I think there are solid decks in here for everyone, and I'm really happy about that.

I have unlocked all the decks, the 300 unlockable cards (manually, yes, i have that much free time, although beating the prodical encounter makes unlocking easier) gold on everything, campaign, revenge, planeswalker, and challenges, unlocked all achievements except the two bugged ones, yet i am only sitting at 2669 rating.

How is it that others have 2700+ rating? I don't know what else to complete/unlock. :D

Anyways, i guess it's time for multiplayer.

EDIT: Wanted to share some thoughts about the 10 decks.

Ajani's Celestial Light - Most annoying deck to fight with, lacks control, slow?
Chandra's Born of Flame - Very balanced deck, played with this the most, too tired of it now
Garruk's Pack Instinct - Once this starts rolling, very hard to beat, not enough control though
Jace's Dream Puppets - My favorite deck to annoy people, too slow to set up though
Yeva Ancient Wilds - Not a fan of decks that rely on combos/mechanism, but fun to play
Talrands Crosswinds - Most useless deck, but fun to play and annoy people with
Nefarox's Exalted Darkness - Not enough control, but very powerful if able to set up
Krenko's Goblin Gangland - One of my favorite deck, not much control, but good burst
Liliana's Obedient Dead - Another one of my favorite deck, good balance, creatures and control
Ordic's Peacekeepers - My last favorite deck, good balance, creatures and control

    Hey everyone,
There is now a promotional unlock available to get one extra card per deck, it's WMKFGC

Go into the Store, then click the M button to enter the code. These cards will be inserted in your deck instead of the sideboard so you'll have to go in and check out each one to see if you like it. My personal favorites are the extra Goblin Guide and Chandra Phoenix in the respective red decks! There is also a multicolored "buffed" pacifism enchant for the black/white exalted that I'm going to keep in. The official DotP forum has the full list.

Free advice to newcomers and newbies

I'll give a fresh and free advice that's strictly related to this last promotional unlock code (thanks Emos for sharing info here!)...

Watch carefully when and which decklist you're going to play when playing the monoblack Liliana's deck (Obedient Dead). I've see today a little but consistent amount of people who effectively don't understand a he** while playing this beautiful M:tG app... Suffice for you all, including the promotional Phage card is a two-way blade, and your outcome heavily depends on where you're going to play: if playing in a Planechase match, the Phage is not only utterly useless, but, since this game mode features certain plane (at random, remember, at random...!) which bring creatures from your graveyard into play, causing you to instantly lose when Phage is "resurrected" via an effect. I've won two matches with an error like this, probably two incredibly unaware newbies (let's not say how I usually call people like this... Personally I hate people who pretend to play without reading/knowing written things on cards, not mentioning rules), so be warned... Phage is an autowin in case of successful damage attack to opponent, but, as clearly written in the card itself, cost you a game loss when you're "not playing Phage from YOUR HAND" and that means simply you MUST SUMMON DIRECTLY (excuse me for caps, but I think is needed here) from your hand.

...And that last clarification leads also to the interesting suggestion in case you're playing a deck with Phage in a multiplayer or vs AI match (so, not Planechase): it's quite good to include this card, but avoid any "resurrection" spell targeting it of course. And this granted me one victory in a multiplayer match few minutes ago... Maybe some people inserted this promo code and were unaware of certain "dangerous" freshly added cards, who knows... But reading cards or paying attention to rules isn't a so hard task, meh...!!! :D
