I think it's random...going into Airplane mode might help but until I hear from multiple people doing multiple runs that this is the trick, I think he just got lucky.
I find it's the combo of the Soul Wardens with the ever growing Cat people who feed off its constant growth.
Hi Tim, Well, I had reported on that a week ago or so. I had read back on BGG that some people had been successful in playing it with Airplane Mode ON, and/or logged out of GC. So I threw it here just in case someone would be able to confirm it - otherwise I was just considering that they had either gotten lucky. EDIT: Original post here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=2315030#post2315030 This report from Mike, however, does give that claim a bit more credibility now. Instead of being from "unknown guy at BGG" (no disrespect intended), it is from Mike here, and I'm hopeful that others will also be able to try it out and see if it works or not.
The ELO rating is not a serious thing until someone provide a fix to Gamecenter. First player in leaderboard use a popular hacking program to place simply his name and a fake (huge) highscore from his jailbreaked ipad. And that's not the only game, it's a common problem in all of Gamecenter stuff. Another thing which actually I cannot verify for sure, GC players which use hacking apps to freely unlock achievements and certain non-traceable game stuff may cause strange glitches when played against. As an example, not so much time ago, it was possible to start a multiplayer match on Assassin's Creed Recollections, wait for opponent answer and then with a simple click choose for an autowin, often crushing also opponent highscore because of strange scoring values. Hard to explain properly here, but rest assured of one thing: Gamecenter at his actual state is a total pure crap. Completely. A major bad thing, also, is having certain game stuff (legit, unlocked or even worse paid!) completely tied to a Gamecenter personal owner account. To say, if you want to play some Magic during an air travel (just to unlock cards, for example...) without any connection, means in 99% of cases you're deliberately going to wipe your own Gamecenter save the next time you try to connect. Cloud savegame, and especially a personal player savegame, is strongly needed and hope in requesting that we players may be satisfied as soon as possible from developers. Otherwise, this game quite sucks, because it's pointless to play and unlock cards in a certain state, then discover next time you've only lost time & fun because you're caught in a different (logged, or not logged in GC) state. I've lost for example my hope to see my Master of Puzzles and the 10-Encounters Winner fixed and properly unlocked both in my profile and in my Gamecenter: probably I need to unistall the game and do a complete start over. But, having unlocked more than 60% of cards with pure gameplay (bought only Nefarox's deck and the Premium Unlock of course), I refuse to being "hostage" of these weird bugs... Devs please read this pledge... And keep up the good job, please!
I just did three more games in a row on my iPad 1 in airplane mode. Doesn't seem random to me. More details: iPad 1, 64 gig, iOS version 5.1.1, multitasking gestures turned off, multitask list constantly emptied, device rebooted at least once a week.
You've given me hope...and as many of the issues do seem to be GC/iCloud related maybe you're onto something. Could you try a couple of custom 4 player Planechase games using different decks and vs. different opponents as well?
Sure! I'll start by playing against Odric, Krenko, and Nefarox. That should put enough cards out in the field to crash the game, lol. I'll report back in a while.
I played 2 custom, 4 players planeschase games back to back successfully while in airplane mode. First game was obedient dead deck (me) versus Odric, Krenko, and Nefarox. I got stomped, lol. Second game was all jace decks, which I won. I'm gonna set the difficulty back to easy and see if I can go through the planeschase campaign levels later tonight.
Oh, that makes them ridiculous, yes. They've always been good in my book, even without the cats. I kind of expected to see a somewhat nerfed version either being 0/1 or 2 mana.
Finally won a planeschase campaign game (talk about some chaotic matches!) and I can confirm that getting the achievement while in airplane mode will still update your GC achievements accordingly. Just in case anyone was wondering.
Fwiw, the sheer amount of chaos in Planeschase is unnerving. Sweeping effects that can turn the tables totally with one roll of the die make this into nothing but a luck fest.
Anyone else slightly bothered that the battlefield is not central to the screen and a bit off to the left? Just me?
Playing the basic game [campaign], and I'm incredibly impressed with the polish and quality that has been poured into this product. I've always wanted to get into MTG after following it in the mid-90s but was put off by the sheer errata of the rules, and the cost of the physical game. Played the tutorial which is fairly basic and provides the bare bones of explanation. As others have stated, the depth arises from the variation of cards and how you can play them in different phases. Let alone deck construction and optimisation! Played Talrand in the 1st campaign challenge. I decided to use the Born of Flame deck because I've never been into Green decks. Talrand was using Crosswinds, which concerned me because I had no idea of how much of a control deck it would be. Crosswinds is faster (but not too much), and both decks have good flexibility - Born of Flames has big creatures. My initial hand wasn't bad: 5 lands and 2 creatures - both flying. Nothing much for first couple of turns re: both playing land. Talrand played the Kraken Hatchling - purely defensive; nothing to worry about. I got out my Firewing Phoenix. Then came his Ring of Evos. Hmm .. Counters. A 1/4 was nothing to immediately worry about as I started attacking with Firewing Phoenix and getting a Fire Elemental on the field. Talrand also had a Skywinder Drake out. No biggie. Both of our flyers could block and kill each other - except I could return mine from the graveyard. It was when the Ring started adding counters to the Skywinder Drake that I was a touch concerned. By this time, I had dealt him a considerable bit of damage and shrugged off the Kraken. Then he dispersed my Fire Elemental. Hmm. There's a reason I prefer and hate playing against control decks. By this time, his Skywinder Drake was a 6/4 and was attacking. My Firewing Phoenix wouldn't be able to kill it if I blocked. Fortunately, I had enabled 'Hold Priority', so threw an instant Searing Spear, then blocked. Mutual destruction! More importantly, I had 5 mountains out and once again played my previously dispersed Fire Elemental. I also played Chandra's Phoenix the next turn (hasted) and that was too much for Talrand with no creatures out. Not only defeated him, but earnt Avatar of Slaughter achievement! Not bad for my first game. I did feel that my initial hand wasn't bad and that he didn't get the opportunity to play some of the more defining cards in the Crosswinds deck which could have hurt. Also, good use of an instant helped turned the battle (hold priority is vital when playing instants). This is just the basic game and there is so much. The $10 to unlock the full game is a steal - especially as a good primer to finally get into MTG, and enjoy the game, artwork and flavour text (a big part of the charm). Simply absorbing.
Thanks for giving me hope and getting me to reinstall it! Who wants to be bothered by others when playing Magic anyways?
This is probably a dumb question. Probably even dumber to expect an answer, seeing as this thread is mostly silly arguments, LOL. I was going to read the entire thread before posting, but alas, I could only stomach about thirty percent of it before giving up. This game seems great, and I am enjoying it. I've played a bit of MtG in the past, but not much. Still a n00b. My problem is that I can't figure out how to unlock more of the campaign mode. I just keep playing the same blue dude and green dude ovr and over. I've apparently unlocked Planechaser mode, but that's far beyond my skills and honestly seems kinda dumb to me. I just want to continue on the campaign. Is it already time to pay the $10 to go further? Or should I be able to unlock more stuff in the free version? To be clear, I have NO problem paying the very reasonable price. I just wanted to go as far as I could in free mode. Maybe I'm already there, but I also might be missing something obvious.
So can I assume you don't know? EDIT: and BTW, that wouldn't technically answer my question. Of course more content will unlock when I pay. The question is: is it *possible* to unlock more content before paying?
In the free version you get up to 3 decks with 5 unlockable cards each, 4 opponents, and a Planechase match. Anything beyond that will run you at least $9.99. The contents are outlined in the app description.
