You want a nasty confrontation? Try playing a goblin deck against Ajani in the campaign on hardest setting. I must have had ten games before I finally beat him. You need an opening hand with the goblin breeder to win. One game I managed to get my goblin up to 11/11 with an artifact on him, but Ajani had two creatures out with 13/13 on them from his artifact, so they were gaining every turn, and staying ahead of my goblin. I managed to get two artifacts on the goblin, then Ajani removed one of them. I conceded so many games. In the game I finally won, I kept producing goblin tokens with that goblin that taps to produce what you already have out there, and in spite of me hitting him with 25 1/1's at one point, he still kept his life total over 25 because he kept getting one life point for every creature I brought out, because of a 1/1 that I could not kill, plus he had 3 flying blockers all with 'lifeline'. He kept blocking, then finally, attacked with his three flyers, got me down to six life, and I had 48 goblins out for the next turn. He had 3 untapped plains. I hit him with everything, including an 87/2 goblin (get's +2 power for every other attacking goblin) and waited for him to play a 'prevent all damage this turn' spell, at which point I would be dead next turn. He didn't play it, and I finally won. That life giving deck seems like the strongest one next to 'exalted'. The blue discard deck seems to be the weakest. I never had a problem with it in campaign or online play.
AI players aren't so much brilliant in playing any type of milling deck (because a "discard deck" is not the monoblue type you're referring, instead is a popular monoblack once in auge some time ago in tournaments), hence it's almost impossible to have "any problems" against that Jace's monoblue deck, especially when playing a fast aggro deck. Human and skilled players, instead, can probably confirm and demonstrate that this same monoblue, when played properly, is one of the best control deck available in this game. I rate that deck as very versatile and way much more powerful compared against Nefarox's white/black and even against a fast aggro deck (provided you're careful to starting with a decent initial hand, since it's very hard to stand against a very fast creature deployment on start). It's a very clever and really demanding (tech speaking) deck, but the Jace's one, when played to its proper extent, is really rewarding. Of course, that's my opinion as a former mtg player. Reminds me old times of Howling Owl archetype, another very popular tourney deck which focuses the same milling strategy. There were turns in which opponents were forced to draw 11-12 cards at a turn...!
Save data issues Hey guys - Last week some of you reported some issues with losing save data. While this issue doesn't appear to be very widespread, we know how frustrating this can be to lose all of your save progress, so we've escalated this as a top-priority fix. We've heard that some people have had success restoring their data by logging out of and back into Game Center, but this hasn't worked for everyone. I've reached out to a few of you through private message, but if I haven't sent you a message and you've experienced this issue, I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a private message with more details about what happened around the time you lost your data. Could you help us out by provided as much of the following as possible? -Which iPad model are you playing on? -Which version of iOS are you using? -Can you recall the exact state of the game right before you lost your data? -Were you online when you lost your data? -Any additional information you can provide would be very very helpful Once again, this is a top-priority fix, and we appreciate your help identifying the core of the issue. Thanks.
For me what happened was that I tried starting up the game at a time when gamecenter seemed to be down (thursday last week?), and the game started up as if I had never played. Luckily, I was able to start up again once gamecenter was back, and my data was restored. It seems that the save data is somehow tied to gamecenter, I wonder what would happen to people who switch GC ids between family members on a shared device... Seems like a pretty clumsy/fragile mechanism for storing your saves... Answers to your questions: iPad 3, wifi, 64GB iOS 5.1.1 Can't recall, aside from that all decks were unlocked and the first two campaign modes had been completed I was online, but couldn't connect to GC
Thanks for the details! Glad to hear your data was restored. The fact that GC appeared to be down when your data appeared to be lost is particularly helpful.
It hasn't happened to me yet in Magic..but I heard of similar incidence for other games. I had one or two incidence in other games where before GC logs on, it looks like I lost my save, but after it loads the save comes back. I would hate to be in a place with no wifi and losing all progress. And a nightmarish situation of if I continue to play without wifi and "creating" a new save..then after returning to a place with wifi and having the game get confused which save to restore.
I'd prefer saves/progress linked to gamecenter. Otherwise, deleting the game from your ipad would mean losing all of your progress (unless cloud saving is supported). I regularly change the apps/games on my ipad.
Hey Jon - since we've got your ear... Are there plans for additional content? I'd really like to see more multicolor decks (there's only the one playable one, right?) and tougher AI opponents. Personally I wouldn't mind paying for the extra content, as long as the prices stay reasonable.
Actually there should be an expansion planned eventually, people looked at the code and there are more decks in the offering (multicolored at that!) and more card unlocks for the current decks. Have no idea if/when it will hit, best guess is several months from now.
Jon has already stated that he cannot comment on future DLC. It would be awesome, but the bugs are a priority.
I tried the stock (non-unlocked) goblin deck against Ajani on Revenge and did not have a challenge. I think it's because I took out all his Soul Wardens (gain 1 life when a creature enters the battlefield) with extreme prejudice (ember hauler, shock, gempalm, whatever is at hand). If I used my direct damage on lesser threats, ones he would have to trade card for card if he blocks, then the life gain probably would have gotten out of hand. I'll trade him creature for creature on the battlefield all day--I have more goblins than he has cats! By anything that gives him persistent life gain has to die.
I unfortunately can't comment on any details yet, but I can say that we plan to have the same level of support for Duels 2013 as we had for Duels 2012 (which was available on Xbox/PS3/Steam). Duels 2012 had additional DLC release throughout last year. I hope that kind of answers your question.
So I finally got around to trying the planeschase campaign on my iPad 1 with it in airplane mode. I was able to finish the entire game! What a crazy mode! I was pretty much left alone until the end. Ajani and Garruk went at it the whole match, with Talrand unable to do anything much and getting knocked down to 1 life in the first few turns. The different planes add some crazy elements to the game... I kept dumping cards of my opponents (jace deck), Ajani killed off Garruk and then me, and it was down to Ajani with 50-something life and Talrand with 1 life. Next thing you know, all creatures get destroyed, Talrand gets a couple of 7/7 creatures from dice rolls, then pulls out some 8/7 creature and clones it 5 times with some bad ass card and proceeded to destroy Ajani in a couple of turns. What a turnaround! It was insane, and I'm only so geeked out about it because I'm imagining how wild these games get with 4 actual people behind the decks, rather than 3 AIs. I'm thinking of picking up the PS3 or PC version just to find out!
Big problem... I've bought the game last week and since yesterday, i'm not even able to get in the game (it crashes before the game finish to load). Can you help me with that please? Thanks fdlsrv19 (on gamecenter)
I had the same problem last week. Had to delete and reinstall. All my progress was lost except Achievements. Had to start over from the beginning. Hopefully you'll find a better solution. By chance were you in the middle of a match? I think that's where mine crapped out ... middle of a Planechase match and it looks like it just can't load the saved game and crashes. Pretty major issue. Good luck.
Soul Warden is an insane card. I remember using them a lot way back in... the Rath Cycle, I think? Having not played MtG for ages, I was kinda surprised to see them still in the game. Sure, there are tons of ways to get rid of them, but they're a 1-mana drop, so of course that's the case.
The problem is: Progress is not saved in gamecenter, just achievements! The progress of Magic 2013 (unlocked decks and cards, state of the campaign) is only saved locally - but the access to the locally stored files seems to be depended on a working online connection to the gamecenter. The best would be the use of iCloud for storing the progress (and of course gamecenter for highscores and achievements).
Possible Bug Not sure if I found a bug here: Playing Chandra red deck vs AI, I had Magma Phoenix in play and also Inferno Titan. Being in a tough spot and needing to cause some damage to Odric's white deck I decided to use my Inferno Titan to attack my opponent, this allows Inferno Titan to do up to 3 damage divided as I choose between target players or creatures before combat damage is resolved. I tried to cast all three damage onto my Magma Phoenix so that Magma Phoenix would die, be moved to the graveyard and cause 3 damage to all creatures and players as a result of it's ability. However, it wouldn't let me target Magma Phoenix as I had 'Simplified Targeting' turned on. I turned this off in settings as the message instructed, but still showed the same message when I tried again. I tried turning it on and off in settings and still couldn't target the Phoenix. Finally gave up and targeted one of the opponants creatures for 1 damage, it then allowed me to allocate the 2nd and 3rd point of damage to my Phoenix... this was useless now though as I could not do all three damage and kill the Phoenix. Shouldn't it have allowed me to target the Phoenix as soon as I turned off the Simplified Targeting in settings as the message advised? Anyone else encountered any similar issue?
I just had the exact same problem. Even restarting the ipad did not work. Lost all progress. Hours of unlocking cards and even my ELO-rating was deleted. This means that everyone who runs into this problem loses all cards they did not buy. This bug/missing feature should have top priority
Sorry if I am missing something here. You're saying that, after all, setting the iPad 1 to airplane mode will allow you to play the 4-player Planechase duels without crashing? That's massive news! Is there anything crashing then that we don't have a workaround for, at the moment? Cheers Mike!
