In Revenge mode, can anyone give me some clue on what deck to beat those damn Goblins and Krenko ?

    Many thanks.

    Hi everyone!

I am fairly new to Magic and I am playing through the single playing campaign currently with the red deck. I have noticed that after some of the duels, there is an icon next to the portrait of the most recent duel. It is either brown or gold and it is in shape of a cross/star. What is the difference here?

Also, do I need to complete the entire campaign through with each deck to unlock all the cards?

    Thanks!

It's not really a game of this deck beats this deck, although some decks are quite vulnerable against a certain deck. Goblin Gangland is a swift deck based on pumping and sacrificing goblins. You might give Peacekeepers (mono white ) a shot wich i found gives a bit more control and loads of creatures to counter all those nasty goblins.
Crosswinds ( mono blue ) might work as well, swift counters and flying wich goblins can't. It all depents on how you play with what cards. What i suggested is what works for me,but i'm sure someone else will wholehartely recommend you Obedient Dead (mono black) or Celestial Light (mono white). I'm seeing awesome opportunities in there i have yet to experience.
To truly help you we need more info on wich decks you've tried and if u tuned it a bit,a lot or not at all.

    Best regards, krautboy.

The encounters aren't using proper decks, they're 'cheating' after a fashion - it's more like a specific hurdle for your deck to pass than an ordinary game of Magic. In this case it's a strict 'clock' to see if you can win the game in X turns, before the Helix Pinnacle does it's business.

It's not from a deck you can unlock.

Welcome to the forums and to magic!
The icons represent the opponents you defeated on wich difficulty. A copper medal is awarded by defeating it om mage difficulty. To earn silver and gold go to settings to set the difficulty to archmage and planeswalker to earn respectively medals. To go through campaign you've got to defeat every opponent to unlock each deck. Encounters are purely optional, but for every win wether it's a replay or an online match you'll gain a card for the deck you're playing. For more info browse through previous posts,or just ask straight away,if i can i'll be happy to help and i know al lot of others will as well.

    Deck Composition

I know it's still early but has anyone come up with any strong deck compositions? I tweaked my Pack Instinct deck to include mostly creatures over 3/3. Took out two Prey Upon, one Emerald Medallion, three Garruk's Companion, one Nature's Lore, two Brindle Boar, one each of Garruk's Packleader, Indrik Stomphowler and Sentinel Spider.

I've unlocked 15 cards for this deck so far.

I think you want to be careful about assuming that bigger is better, it sounds like you're making your deck a lot slower. I'd be putting the Garruk's Companion back in, and the Nature's Lore. You want to make sure you've got a play on the second turn.

I've unlocked all 30 from Born of Flame, and I'm playing a RDW style, which I'm happy with.

    Creatures (18)
    2 Dragon Hatchling
    2 Pyre Charger
    2 Torch Fiend
    2 Chandra's Phoenix
    1 Chandra's Spitfire
    2 Fiery Hellhound
    3 Firewing Phoenix
    2 Obsidian Fireheart
    1 Inferno Titan
    1 Hostility

    Spells (18)
    2 Red Sun's Zenith
    2 Flame Slash
    3 Searing Blaze
    4 Searing Spear
    2 Flames of the Firebrand
    3 Chandra's Outrage
    1 Beacon of Destruction
    1 Fireblast

    Land (24)
    24 Mountain

    It's pretty straightforward.

Let the Rhino through but block the other two creatures with your Hatchling and Piker. Untap, cast Act of Treason on their Spider the swing your team for 7, Fling the Spider at your opponent, GG.

Pick a deck with flying creatures, depending on what you unlocked.
I also recommend wading through this thread ,there's a lot of very good tips.

I'm loving this game so far. I got hooked more years ago than I'd like to admit when I was deploed in the military and they sent us tons of starter sets for free. Years later I tried to get back into it, but couldn't find anyone that wasn't like 20 years younger than me to play with.

One odd thing though. I could have swore there was a rule that decks could only have a max of 4 of each type of card. I just finished a matched that ended with the opponent having 10 howling mines and 10 fog banks. That was manageable, but a few matched later when the opponent had an unlimited supply of the 1 red 1 white mana bolts that damage you and heals them for 3 is a bit overboard.

Yeah, a lot of the encounter decks are stacked and don't follow standard rules. (Then again, none of the game really follows standard, since the card pool is from all over the place) - I think the encounters are really there as challenges rather than as 'real' matches. I didn't find them all that hard to beat, just need to choose an appropriate deck.

Virtually all the cards are from M13, the new core set. I think only Nicol Bolas plays cards that aren't from M13.

The one thing I am disappointed with this purchase is that you still have to pay more to unlock the full decks. So basically I paid $10 to only unlock the rest of the features, but no extra card unlocks.

Unless someone can give me a tip on unlocking cards faster than the campaign mode.

Don't get me wrong, I can afford $1, but I was surprised I didn't have more cards to play around with in the deck manager.

    Hm...

So, I'm intrigued with the whole crashes thing. I own an iPad 1, and while I have never played Magic I've always been curious about it. I think I read somewhere - was it BGG - that some people had been successful in playing the Planeswalker challenges on iPad1 in Airplane mode and/or with GC turned off, so it might be worth a try, who knows.

There seems to be an "official" thread to report the crashes here as well:

    http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75842/29193849/Duels_2013_Technical_problems_-_please_report_your_issue_here?pg=1

Can you finish the campaign without completing those Duels? How long is the Campaign mode (i.e. how many duels, give or take)? I want to assess whether or not is it worth to clear some space in my iPad 1 to try and play the game, even with all these problems, or if I should just stick to Ascension for now.

    Cheers,

    Paulo

    LOL!!! :D

Nicol Bolas deck features mostly all type of absurdly powerful cards, it's a Vintage deck (sort of) and in some games he even dropped Moxes, which came from the Alpha/Beta/Unlimited sets (the first 3 releases of Magic, 1993-ish if I remember right)...!!!

NOTE: many people may think Nicol Bolas is a planeswalker card from the Conflux expansion (Alara block, pair of years ago). Instead, he came first time as a Legendary Creature with the Legends expansion (1994/1995). In Magic subculture he's well known as someone very powerful and wicked. Just to tell some fun facts... :)

Scroll back previous answers here, I've already posted (two times) how to greatly speedup the unlocking extra cards process... ;)
