I'd arrange it so that my stop/continue buttons were on the upper right, essentially, and leave the cards where they are. I can pretty much hit any card from the right hand side without moving too much (since the browse centers things), but I want the emergency stop button to be closer to my twitch thumb. Put another way, when I'm tapping cards, i'm a little more willing to move around. When I'm just flipping through to check someone's zoom, or to pause something, or to continue, I just want to reach out and have it within reach.
Yeah, I actually just took a screenshot on my iPad, and am planning on bringing that to a card shop when I get the chance. Hopefully they'll accept it; let us know if all goes smoothly!
Wow, how condescending! Believe it or not, I do understand what you said. I know that people are trying to mean "hey you (plural)". But they are using a male gendered term to do it, in a field where women have not traditionally felt welcome, and where it's all too common for people, even game developers, to make the mistaken assumption that all the players are male. Welcoming more women gamers is in all our interests; it leads to better games and more vibrant communities. If you're not willing to put the slightest effort into choosing language that avoids reinforcing a harmful and invalid stereotype, then maybe caring about how welcome women feel in gaming isn't for you.
The person who suggested reading the "how to play" section was dead on. It's to the left of the tutorial and I initially overlooked it. I'm planning on going tomorrow. I'll let you know.
Online woes... So I finally tried out a couple of online matches and ran into a rather frustrating problem. When my opponent plays a card, it doesn't wait for my acknowledgment like it does in offline, so cards are flying into the battle field and I have to double tap it to find out what it is. While I'm zoomed in on my opponent's card, stuff is still going on, so I have to back out and hope I didn't miss anything important. What's really the problem, though, is that when my opponent plays something with a decision to make on it, I can't see the card because it's covered up by a box telling me the name of the card and that my opponent is making a decision. I can't double tap the card to find out what it does, and the hour glass button is greyed out, so if I want to play something like counterspell, I'm pretty much shooting in the dark unless I know exactly what the card is by name. None of this would be a problem if the game waited for acknowledgement from the opponent each time a card is played, just like in the offline modes.
No they aren't. They are using a gender-neutral term. A gender-neutral term is far preferable to a gendered term in almost all cases. If the gender of someone isn't important, don't use a gendered term. I find it very odd when someone refuses to use gender-neutral terms and instead insists on the sex of someone being flagged up, there is no need for it, unless you are choosy and are trying to find out who is a potential sexual partner and who isn't. Edit: although possibly we are all just encountering the main problem with English - that it is spoken in so many different places, words mean very different things to different people. In SE England at least, 'guys' is a perfectly acceptable gender-neutral term. Anyway, on topic: I lost my first planewhatsit (planeswalk? planeshift?) match against 3 AI players, which was the 3rd match in the campaign I think. Do I just suck, or am I doing the battles in the wrong order, are there more normal ones to practise on before I need to beat the 3 AI player one?
Planechase. And yeah, it's quite a bit tougher than the 1v1 matches. You might want to "grind" with your favored deck to unlock some more cards, or even consider switching to a different deck if you find the one you're using just isn't working. Also, can we please lay off the discussion of gender politics? Someone used a noun in a gender-neutral way, and someone else chooses to interpret it as gendered. There was no intentional slight there, and if you can't see that then you're clearly looking to start an argument. This isn't the place for that. I'm not trying to call anyone out, and I'd prefer not to be responded to about this, just let's everybody let it drop.
How come when I win, it sometimes doesn't show that I unlocked a card? Did I unlock it but it just doesn't show it?
No. No. I said I'm not digging into this. And for the record, I didn't quote you. The conversation you were involved with sparked a general rant from me, as in any premium release there is a person or people making comments to the effect of "I can get games X, Y, and Z for a buck" or "I'd pay *insert percentage* of this, tops" or "I'll wait for the sale." Some of these things you did say, btw. But, again, general rant, for which I apologized twice. So I'm not sure what you're looking for. If you feel that the people who were directly debating you unfairly accused you of something...take it up with them.
One way to ease into the wacky world of Planechase is to play a custom game vs. 1 opponent in Planechase mode. It's a great way to get a feel for the various plane effects in a much more even matchup. It also might be worth noting that the AI LOVES rolling that die even if they already are in a real sweet spot with the current effect and their current situation. Other than maybe some extreme situations, if the AI can't cast any more spells this turn and has some mana left, get ready for a rolling frenzy.
Have you bought the IAP Premium pack? If I remember correctly, the free app only allows five unlocked cards per deck; you get the rest of the decks and the full 30 cards to unlock once you're playing the full version.
Noob impression Just wanted to say that if anyone is on the fence about this game, it's worth every penny. I have always been interested in MtG but always found it to be a bit overwhelming with the rules and money investment involved. This app solves both of those problems. I'd never played before in my life and one or two plays through the tutorial and a few games into the campaign and I'm having a blast. It's the perfect tool for noobs like myself to get a taste of what MtG is all about. Highly, highly recommend if there's anyone out there like me who felt intimidated by the physical game but was interested in learning how to play.
That's so awesome! You know, the new Core Set will be coming out in a few weeks, if you wanted to start playing with physical versions of some of the cards you're learning to use in the app right now. Friday Night Magic events can be a great place to join a community of players and ease into tournament play, since it's designed to be a more fun, less competitive event. And it just so happens that new sets launch on Fridays, which means that you could attend the Friday Night Magic launch event and get the best of both worlds! That was exactly what I did when I started getting heavily back into the game after many years away from it, and it was a really fun and easy-going way of relearning the rules I had forgotten, picking up all the new ones I needed to know, in a fun and supportive environment. Plus, it was the first time many people were seeing the new cards, so not only was there a lot of excitement, but people were also playing a little more slowly to take time to read the cards more thoroughly, which was helpful for a newcomer like me. This is just my rambling way of congratulating you on learning and enjoying the game for the first time! Hope to see you around a local tournament someday.
Finished the campaign on the medium difficulty level yesterday with the red burn deck. Had some trouble with nico bolas(turn 2 infernal titan was brutal) as well as the goblin matchups. I think I'll try to go through the campaign with the exalted darkness deck now. It seems like a fun deck to play. Which decks are you guys playing with?
so, what is revenge mode, and why isn't blacked out, even though I have paid for the full game..? thanks, in advance.
Revenge mode is playing against all the 'bosses' again. Only they are a bit more difficult this time. Especially Nicol Bolas which took me about 10 goes. Not easy when he starts pulling out Moxes!! A tad unfair.
