I found this Wiki entry pretty handy, especially for those of us that know how to play the game but have been out of the loop for many years. Here are all of the current keywords so you can quickly determine what is meant by shorthand terms like "Reach", "Scry", "Shroud", etc.
And you're still not understanding... Again. If a game works perfectly, probably it means rules are always applied properly and you're a little out of some rules, figure it? Mmmh... Better to not count on this. PS: a tip, "Game is working perfectly" is NOT "Everything works perfectly". Let's say, another one's life is not working properly, but actually Magic 2013 on ipad (clarification ) is still working perfectly. And I cannot state nothing at an "Everything" level, maybe at "It"/"This" level, limited to my own personal experience. Game is working perfectly. (Gamecenter not so much eh) A question: are you a Magic player, I mean maybe a former Pro Player or a former Limited Drafter? A former Judge? That may change everything and then we may start listing bugs and especially complaints. (I'm joking of course - don't want to be a mean person tbh).
Chiming in to say a lot of what people are seeing as "bugs" likely aren't. Magic's rules are very complex. Take for instance, the following card: You can play it, and then instead of dragging a card up out of your library you can just hit the button in the bottom right corner to finish casting the card. Initially, you might be like, "What the hell, where is my land? It should've given me one!" However, the "search" keyword is optional. Or, from the official rulings: So what seems like a bug of not giving you a land is exactly how the game should be doing things. Why would you want to do this? Well, if you had some scrying ability to see the top couple cards on your deck and they weren't anything you wanted you could play Nature's Lore with the only intention being to shuffle, and then play a draw ability to get a fresh card. I'm not sure there's any Landfall cards in Magic 2013, but that might be one reason why you wouldn't want to play a land even though you could.
Ok, unfortunately for you sir, you're totally wrong. Badly badly wrong. Both in card rulings and names. Sorry sir, I was right. Here's the explanation, and another free Magic:The Gathering lesson. Rules aren't mine, how to say... Better reading and proper attention again. Unlocked the Adjani level, went to Stage 3 (Encounter with a Primordial Hydra deck, a useful card link for reference is http://magiccards.info/m12/en/189.html ) and chose to play with my freshly unlocked Jace monoblue deck. Your first error: there's no spell named "REPLICATE" as you wrote (not in Jace nor the other monoblue Talrand's deck), maybe you're probably mistaking with the "CLONE" spell. (A useful link of this card is http://magiccards.info/m11/en/49.html ) Huge mistake, since it's not a simple "spell" (an instant or sorcery for example) but a CREATURE spell. Basically, you're summoning a clone of a TARGET creature already into play. Am I right? Now explanations, simply as eating a pizza... I launch Clone, let's say I want to target a huge 88/88 Primordial Hydra, perfectly legal, no problems and I resolve successfully the spell. That goes directly to the waste bin, of course. Because if you better read RULINGS (what I have said until now... Game is working perfectly? YES!), you may notice that the "Clone" card rulings state As a copy, the Clone copies all characteristics of the chosen creature. This includes name, color, power/toughness, abilities, and more. For example, a copy of an artifact creature is an artifact creature. so you're copying a creature (Primordial Hydra) WITH A PRINTED 0/0 in his original card (in Magic, cards NEVER change original printed infos, except when clearly stated - I mean about the print). So your Clone enter the battlefield DEAD. No mistakes and no bugs from developers side, they're of course terribly serious and professional. As requested probably by license owner. Again, Magic is not a game "with funny colored cards and some nice text on these". Sorry, but that's all. QUIZ: You have a red creature with PROTECTION FROM WHITE. I cast the spell "Wrath of God" (link is http://magiccards.info/10e/en/61.html ) and yes, it's a white spell. Your creature die anyway because of this spell. Can you tell me why? TIP: it's not a bug. Read better. Again, cheers!
Me too! I'll give a hint: DEBT. Magic is so awesome. While the intricacies of the rules can make a steeper learning curve for new players, it means there is a rich and nuanced world of strategy waiting for them.
That's what I am saying all day! Better reading, attention, etc... Just like krautboy, everybody can reach a pro player level understanding in Magic, just give yourselves proper time, refine your skills, practice with wordings and rules... The app works perfectly until now. Every single bit is worth the Premium Unlock cost, at least for me. It's not like playing true Magic in real life with thousands of cards choices, it's just restricted to cards present in software and maybe future DLC. But its bugless, and seeing 80€-ish games debut like Diablo3 or Skyrim, this app made a shiny diamond brilliant debut...! EDIT: and for the Quiz, the creature with protection from white dies anyway of a "Wrath of God" white spell because that spell DON'T TARGET creatures. A protection from a color only protect against being targeted from spells of this color. Not mentioning the rest of what protection grants eheheh.
Man the game is tough for a beginner like me. And I see cards that make no sense because they refer to other cards and so on.
Yeah, there's definitely a learning curve compared to the early years. I started with Unlimited (3rd Edition), I remember buying two boxes of Legends and selling the rares I didn't need at half the going rate and STILL getting plenty of pocket money for that semester in college (ah, the old era of rec.games.trading-cards.marketplace!) ... Now I try to pick it up again after a multi-year hiatus and I had to spend fifteen minutes just catching up on all the terms.
Seriously, dude, step off your magic box and stop pissing on the plebes. "you are badly badly wrong! Hee hee, look at me!" is this type of response necessary? Is this your child I am insulting? tone it down, please. It it is fine to be a fanboy, but your tone is condescending to the max. It makes you sound like a jackass. First of all, there is NOTHING in my example where the game is explaining why something can't work. If it doesn't do what it is supposed to do, it should tell you why it can't, not let you try to figure out via some condescending rules lawyer on TA. This is a DEV problem with the game, not MY problem. They made this game for beginners, not magic masters who worship at its altar. So, they should include explanantions for functions like 'scry' and not force me to look it up on a wiki page. Seriously, you get on my case because i missed a word or two in telling you about the replicate spell? What is this? A quiz? How many blue spells are there with the word replicate in it? This isn't an episode of Jeopardy where I have to be 100% precise in my wording to win points and/or avoid the wrath of some overzealous fanboy. Take it down a notch, okay? It is great that you want to prove how perfect your game is, which it isn't, but not everyone here shares in your unadulterated love fest of the app. It is great, but needs improvement. You are telling me I can't read a spell card? "it's not replicate, it's probably clone." oh really? I guess it's time to get my eyes checked. It is 'rite of replication' does that make you happier? Will I avoid getting spanked with your magic ruler this time? Lol! My turn : "You are badly badly wrong, sir! I am right! More careful reading and comprehension next time please! The card is 'replicate' not 'clone'. Maybe spend more time going through the blue deck first to find the card that has 'replicate' or 'replication' in the title before assuming i can't differentiate the word 'clone' from 'replicate'. I understand you want to be helpful, but don't be an ass while doing it, mkay?
Hehe, you gotta love this classic response. "You've been an ass to me, so I'm gonna berate you for it. And then be an ass." Next minute someone's gonna mention the game costs more than a dollar and then it'll all kick off again. I know the developers of this and came in to lend my support, but I see it's too late - the easy net hate bile has already started.
A person post complaints and rants about bugs present in a game. Another person keep constructively answering (there are various people which are still on the way to PROPERLY LEARN the game, and surely these are more than simple complainers), pointing the index mainly in two important things when playing any Magic: The Gathering serious game: 1) paying attention to card text (it's a useful tip only for players who wants to learn playing properly this game - not my assumption, it's a game demanding attention) and 2) do proper reading about rulings wordings whatsit etc. Here's a chance for a major clarification, a constructive one (don't hate complainers, but if they're calling BUGS what are clear game rules, it's simply... Figure it by yourselves.), that person named the precise card and the specific situation which he define A SOFTWARE BUG, while I'm still in battle with another person which also say almost the same thing... Perfect, I prepare myself to make excuses in case I'm wrong, but, again... It's the case of a Wizard talking to a Parrot, a plumeless one perhaps. False alarm. Both aren't even aware if what they're talking about. As complainers and trolls usually do. Typycal (LOL). But, then, the Parrot gets angry and so he stand and fight his personal hate battle against the world, wow! And we're not talking about Angry Birds, phew! Another free lesson: never follow the debacle line of a flamewar, even if someone write a direct insult to you... Let'em rot by themselves, said once my grandpa. Two blue mana tapped. Counterspell. Ciao ciao!
Says who? Maybe they figure that if it doesn't work the way you expected it to, then you're going to think, gee, I should learn from this and figure out why. Unless you assume that you know the rules better than they do and if it doesn't work the way you expect then it must be broken.
Why did you say that the title is Replicate, if it's actually Rite of Replication? That seems like a pretty big difference. I don't think you can reasonably expect people to figure out that's what you meant.
To be honest, I was perfectly aware there were no "Replicate" spell so I suspected he was playing the Jace's deck which I already know featured the Clone card. Magic has more than 10000 single different cards, and each card has his own unique english name (which really counts in any sanctioned tournament decklist - a higher level tournament wrongly written decklist may cause you a match loss or disqualify if I remember correctly). I figured he was facing some sort of 0/0 creature (which, say the devil, green often features in certain deck types like spike fungi decks). That's simply a common newbie mistake, nothing to be impressed. But what must be put clearly in right & proper words was the fact there were no bugs at that moment. Probably I did a too much "scenic" move (how to say? Ouff my italian limit my english ouch ouch), but was clearly joking. I like to help everybody and share the fun at games I like, of course with the prior critical statement that everybody involved knows game rules and are aware of what are saying. I often play boardgames, figure how much "proper rules knowledge" is requested for a decent fun experience...! We're not talking about Munchkin here, meh!
If i say replicate, and it's blue, and it's an encounter against green spamming trees, that's four big clues as to where i am in the game. Even without all the clues, i think it's fairly easy to associate 'replication' or 'rite of replication' to 'replicate', unless I missed all those other blue cards that have some form of replication in the title. The wonderous thing is how he manages to associate 'clone' with 'replicate', and think i can't read. Unless of course, the guy has no idea about the replication card existing. But, that can't be, because he's professor magic. And yes, i do expect a game clearly directed at beginners to include pertinent information about functions of cards. They seem to have done it for most, but missed a few others. Does Professor Magic know why my cards keep popping up from my hand when i click the proceed button? Why does my red mountain card pop up when I am in my combat phase? Is it telling me I should play the mountain card? Is it a hint? Is there some strategy or rule I am missing there? Far as i recall, you can't play lands during combat, unless that has changed post 1998, when i last played. So why pop the card? It pops random cards all the time that have nothing to do with the phase I am in. As there are no bugs in the game, i really am interested to know why that happens.
To me, 'Clone' seems closer to 'Replicate' than 'Rite of Replication' does. I wouldn't fault the person who guessed wrong about which mistake you made. Especially since it's irrelevant.
Options menu. Do some proper reading here. You'll discover an interesting universe of cool buttons. Some of them are called "suggestions". Some have a strange box near them. Usually, when I click on one of those, the option become active... Or not. There are more windows in that weird options menu. Hidden creeping windows, where things like the monstruous "autotarget" lurks behind the darkness. But that's probably too much. Better keep clicking, licking, spitting and... (I became target of Memory Lapse)
