Latest blog online.. Not a huge amount done this week since I purchased an iPad and its being keeping me busy. If they were a bit cheaper they'd be the ultimate toy for my kids...

Here's the youtube video for this week.
It's just a video of the new all-in-one inventory screen for stats, inventory, spells, crystals, missions and the bestiary.

    New blog up

    Hey all...
Spent the last couple of weeks upgrading my engine to handle Universal Ipad better, and also fixing my movement routines so the turn based system is a bit more robust... so things have been a bit slow.

But that seems to be done now, so I am back into adding features and content and hoping to get things moving faster again.

Latest blog with screenshots and video of some new features and monster is up...

This would be a great roguelike since 100 rogues is too incomplete, sword of fargoal too basic and rogue touch too painful to look at. Too bad it's a non-random rpg :(

I've been following along some Roguelike forums.

"player levels up and decends deeper into random dungeons until he dies and that is game over... Score to leaderboard, roll again.."

Where MageLore will always differ from a Roguelike like Rogue Touch and Sword of Fargoal:

    1. you won't have to start a new character if you die. You just lose some XP and get moved back to the last activated respawn point. I've been playing roguelikes and do like leveling up and getting more powerful, but I really don't like having to start again after you make a wrong decision.

    2. the game will be completely story and quest driven, though its an open world and nothing stopping you from going anywhere and grinding on random mobs, you should always have something specific to do and a place to go next.

I'd love to cater for the roguelike market if I can find a way to blend the two.
Each town in magelore will have a minigame concept which is leaderboarded on Apple's Game Center... which will vary from town to town. I'm using this so I can add all types of gameplay into Magelore... rather than releasing lots of little iPhone games in the future. Basically, you'll walk up to a wizard and pay to take a drink and your mind will wander into whatever universe he has created to entertain you.

So one option might be a "challenge" dungeon, where you enter a magically randomly generated dungeon and have to decend down levels to retrieve the prize. If you die, you will be teleported out of the dungeon and your score noted.

The Disgaea games have something sort of like this.

I've heard Disgaea is quite good, but I've never been able to get into the manga style rpg's myself, which 90% of hand-held rpg's seem to be...

I'm more of a Diablo style fan... been playing a bit of Underworld on the iPad lately. The only thing that gets me down about those games is you end up just stocking up on healing potions and all the strategy goes out the door. No boss is particularly challenging as long as you have a dozen healing pots. At least diablo made healing slow enough that just taking pots wouldn't save you. Titan Quest and Underworld have instant healing so its all down to stocking up on pots, and its not too far into the game before the cost of pots becomes inconsequential.

This anti-Manga sentiment alone makes me want to buy Magelore. :D

This looks great! Reminds me a lot of a mac/pc game called Eschalon. Looking forward to it!

    New blog posted.
    magelore.blogspot.com

This week I've add some automatic tile edging tech so that I could add new terrain types quicker as I've started populating the game maps finally.

Also added signposts, revamped the city/town graphics, added some new spells like "blizzard", and some new terrain types (grasslands, snow).

Of course, StarCraft II being released doesn't help :)

Very interested in this. Ultima V was the first RPG I played and nothing has topped it since as far as single player RPGs go. Also share your sentiments on Manga style RPGs, as well as a liking for Diablo. Bookmarked your blog, wishing you luck with (speedy) development.

    still making progress...

It's been a while since I updated here so I thought I'd make a quick post.

I'm still working hard on the game. I've dived into the content and storyline finally and have the tutorial mission done.

Not looking great for a christmas release at this point but I'll have to see how fast I can get content in place over October. I'm still posting to my blog every couple of weeks magelore.blogspot.com or more often if I have anything visual to show.
