    Hey guys,
I recently was drinking some green tea around my mac and I accidentally spilled some on the mac and got really nervous that I had ruined the mac from water damage, but I soon realized that nothing had happened and the only issue is that some of my keys are sticky now. But now need to remove those sticky keys.

I have done a little research and it appears I need to remove the key and clean up any stickyness, but I am yet to find a conclusive way to go about this.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Alex

EDIT: If it matters this is the latest macbook pro.

Really?!?! Why? Only one, maybe 2 keys are sticky, but it is the 's' and 'a' so they are important. ;)

you cant pop they keys out as easily as a laptop :(

so you gotta unscrew the keyboard and take it out so that you can pop out the keys

you might be able to pop out the keys without taking the whole keyboard out, but just be EXTREMELY careful, the hinges are VERY sensitive, so you break the hinges of a key = no more using that key. though i wouldnt try this. dont bother consulting apple, they'll try to make you pay to get something as simple as that "fixed".

I dont own a macbook anymore, so im trying to remember all this :p

Thanks, but I don't see anywhere I could possibly unscrew the keyboard, I think I am just going to try and pop it off tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

no problem. to take out the keyboard, you would need to take the bottom of the macbook off.

Oh I see, if I can't just pop them off, I think I will leave it, that seems like a pretty major deconstruction.

Actually - maybe not - if you need to change the battery - you need to unscrew the whole bottom - from looking at the owners manual - it looks like there are circumstances that the bottom needs to be unscrewed. I am sure that you can d/l the owners manual from somewhere on the iStore, or apple sites somewhere. Good luck with the keys.

Have a look at www.ifixit.com for videos/"tutorials" on how to disassemble hardware like the macbooks. They're infamous for being one of the first teams to be daring enough to completely unscrew and rip out every little piece in order to audit the parts and work out the base cost - thus how much Apple nets to cover profits and logistics. I'm sure they did one for the Macbooks.

A crazy idea. Bewarned in advance. I hold no responsibility of any damage caused :p
    --------
How bout using some cleaning agent to simply clean the keys instead of taking the keyboard out completely. I`ve heard you can use spirits to clean up such things. Never tried it and though I`m sure the keys will be cleaned after this, but dont know really if it`ll damage the keys in some way in case the spirit reacts with the material. Just hinting at the idea hoping someone who has any experience with this share his thoughts.

Haha, yep might as well try that, but I am not sure if it will help at all since the keyboard has dried sugary goop on it, it is not like bread crumbs or something.

Thanks, but that thread seemed more Vodka focused that mac focused. ;)

I guess the gist is get some alcohol and clean it up, but that doesn't explain how to get under the keys.

As it turned out I was just able to pop the key off, clean it up a bit, and it is as good as new. :)

So as it turns out, the key is still loose and it is because it no longer stays fastened to the bottom. It appears all that I need to do it apply a little glue to the spot for it to stay put.

I was thinking of using some super-glue. Would that be a bad idea???

Yeah it does, but I would be glueing on plain metal so it might not me AS bad but still risky, that's for sure.
