I hate it when these places come up.
    *sigh*
is there an OpenOffice for Mac?
If so, get that. It's better than word, and its free.

I dont mean to make fun of anybody but Apple' products make the standard lower. Mighty mouse revolutionized mice, some people say. ZOMG THEY ADDED RIGHT-CLICK! The iPod (CLASSIC. touch is all right, after all, I AM in TA) lowered the mp3 player standard. The touch screen is all right, but it's not the only touch screen mp3 player that isn't a knock-off.

Although I have iWorks 08, I haven't had much cause to use it. You'll be surprised how much you can get away with standard emailing, TextEdit, and Preview opening the standard document formats. Then again, I'm not a document creator.
Be aware of Pages tho - my brother did try to create a CV on that, but when he asked me to review it at work quickly (hence opened on Word), it did have afew odd things. Can't recall specifics, was some time ago, but it wouldn't look professional to send to a job agency in that state.
Agree that Keynote presentations usually look so much better than Powerpoint ones. If anything, get iWorks 09 just for that, and consider Numbers and Pages as a bonus gift. Use OpenOffice/NeoOffice for double-checking your finalised documents for compatibility.

Yea there's OpenOffice for Macs, but I despise it. So weird to use..
Not the Mighty Mouse, the Magic Mouse. If you say that isn't pure epicness, then I call Shenanigans on you :p

Alright that sounds like a good plan..and I was surprised to find that I don't have TextEdit..I mean, I'm supposed to, so I Spotlight searched it, and only the dictionary came up:

A word-processing program that comes with Mac OS X.

-_- So idk whats up with that..I coulda sworn I saw it before but if the Spotlight didn't provide any matches then..I guess I don't have it?..

You still might. Sometimes spotlights index hasn't been updated for that as a common match. Just go to your finder to your applications and it should be in there. If not I believe it's on your restore CD that came with your computer.

Regardless Open Office has gotten better because it's off the POS we call x11, but NeoOffice is still better for the freeware. Again Keynote >> Powerpoint so if you want a good presentation software Keynote is by far the way to go.

Tried Finder, didn't have any results either. I installed both the CDs that came with it though, so shouldn't it have installed?

Lmao ikr..thats my final conclusion though. Spotlight + Finder weren't able to find it, and I installed the discs it came with, so idk :/

You would be crazy to pay for any software like this that isn't Microsoft Office.

The thing that makes it so much better is that pretty much everyone else uses it. If you go into your office or college, you are pretty much guaranteed they will be using the same software as you.

Heck, MS Office is often required software in colleges that use Macs (my cousin goes to a college that requires students to own an Apple laptop, but also requires MS Office).
