Alright so I'm looking for an app for my Mac that will breakdown how much memory everything on my computer is using. Catch my drift? I started thinking about this earlier when I noticed I dropped from my usual ~70-75 gigs down to 49 gigs. So yea kinda curious about how my memory is being allocated.
Well I download a lot of random stuff. After I emptied my trash and restarted my computer I went back up to 60 gigs [Idk] But I still want a memory program just for reference.
GrandPerspective and Disk Inventory X will show you the huge files, but if your problem is a bunch of smaller unrelated files they probably won't help too much.
Those files you deleted are not all deleted. They are still (if apps) in ~/Library/Application Support - Then remove the files. - I suggest when deleting applications you use AppCleaner.
I'll check those out and see how it pans out. I'm just curious pretty much. No not my activity, a breakdown of how my memory is being allocated. Yea I had a program like that for awhile, I just always forgot to use it. Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I use the secure empty trash option, figured it sounded better.
That is what Activity Monitor does (among other things.) And although you say 'memory' a lot I am beginning to believe you are actually trying to ask about hard disk usage.
check these out http://www.derlien.com/ http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/ both are free and do the job. edit: woops, didn't see disk inventory x was already mentioned
also you could gain some space by deleting caches. I use cache out x (again, free) http://www.trilateralsystems.com/cacheoutx/
