    Thank you bsabiston

I completed this today. It was a really enjoyable game. Thank you.

I never did find anyone who could use the stapler.
Or determine how to get into the tower of the moon (oh hello rocks).
Is the star tower *really* out of commission, or is there some way

The trouble I had with New Sweden was that I never read the sign, so upon leaving, it did not appear labeled on the map.
But I don't really believe it's a spoiler to say that it's at the end of Temple Torment (or at very least, it's not so much of a spoiler that it couldn't be mentioned in a spoiler. Even "On the same continent as Tove/Gaddis/Witch Hazel/etc" would work.

Very groovy. Are you working on another game, or thinking of doing so? I'd buy it.

Thank you for the entertainment. It's very cool.

P.S. I dig all of the pop culture references in this better than those in Lowlander (the first). I especially enjoyed the M*A*S*H reference near the end.

Hey shapshank, congratulations! That New Sweden thing is sort of a bug
normally a place is marked on the map when you enter it, but if you enter New Sweden from Temple Torment it isn't currently marked. The stapler has a use, in one of the towers. Also the tower blocked by stone can be bypassed with the Boots of Balin. You can get those from the royal vaults after the game. Finally - I'm not sure about the out of commission tower? Does one of them say "out of commission"? I don't think it is supposed to...:)

I'll have to grab those boots. I saw gold and figured that was that. I think it's the star tower that I was saying is out of commission but it's near the volcano and has something like a note from the star spirit saying it's out of town or some such. I'll look into it and let you know. :) I got new Sweden to show after reading the signs before leaving. I'm pretty sure I entered it again through torment.
. Again, fun game. Thank you!

    Hey fxxxo Temple Torment
is in the center of the swampland on the main continent. It is SE of New Sweden, if you've been there

    Scratches the Ultima itch.

    Bsabiston,

I still have the original Ultima II box, spent a summer playing Ultima III on my Atari 800, I'd call it my first in depth experience of what would become the RPG genre. Lowerlander succeeds in bringing me back in time, so kudos.

Would you ever incorporate the harvesting of ingredients, nightshade, mandrake, etc which was also a precursor to the crafting genre. Having to wait until a dark moon to get ingredients was always fun, or how about the moonstones, I know being in the Wizard club can act as a teleporter, so you do have that type of element.

I had gone back to get life-jackets from the skeletons and then they became stuck in my inventory, do you know if I get 10 jackets, can I then buy another canoe? I can't drop them.

I did not have a problem with the stealth area in the castle, it was just hard-core 80s difficulty as I remembered it to be. It felt like it belonged, so I dealt with it.

I get the reluctance to go forward with the party aspect, thought that can bring more story lines, Mariah, Iolo, Dupre, Shamino, Jaana. The idea of being in a party and questing had its early origins in games like Ultima, top-down, isometric, or a la Wizadry/Might & Magic style. Getting bogged down in random encounters will turn off many people these days, though turn-based RPG does have a solid place, like X-Com, it is done in episodic chunks.

    Wizard of Wor

Another one of my Atari 800 favs. I think I remember seeing a villager maker a comment about
    killing the Wizard of Wor
. Am I remembering correctly, I don't want to go back and talk to all the villagers again, I'd rather do that to finish that challenge than the alternative, though it did elicit some interesting comments after my 1st
    clownicide in Rivertown
    .

Why don't you just try it? Save your game and whack Wor.

Smacks forehead. Yeah, I forget that there is that save game option there. I prefer this way of handling Wor's quest, and the reaction from the others was amusing. So, am I remembering correctly about there being a villager somewhere who mentions the Wiz of Wor? I didn't really pay attention since I thought it was just another real-life reference like some of the books mentioned.

The bar in Lowtown is the key to solving the Wor part of the quest. The bartender tells you that you can just kill Wor instead.

Back in my younger days playing Ultima III, IV, V, etc, I had a notepad to keep track of all the dialogues and important key word conversations. Too lazy to do it on the iPad now. Thanks for the reminder about that bit of gossip

While playing this, I remembered making great pains to draw maps and I can't imagine ever having the patience to do that with a game today. The worst game to map was one of the Alternate Reality games where you didn't move an entire square at a time.

Playing Lowerlander got me curious about reliving the old Ultima III experience so I found the lairsoft.com port of it online for $5 just to try it again.

Bob said he made the decision not to use the party adventure system for gameplay purposes and I have to agree with that decision. Having a party did make for more engaging battles, but it just got way too repetitive and made it a chore to play. I wonder if I just had more patience back then or if it was simply way more fun playing as a teenager.

I still haven't played the original Lowlander yet. I plan to when I have more time.

Stuck at the maze for Yarak

So, I'm stuck. I am at the back entrance of Yarak's big place just nw of Lazlo and am trying to find the village where I can find Yarak's weakness. It is supposedly at the north edge of the maze and I can see it on the map... just can't get there. Do I need to have boots at this point to climb grey hills? If so where do I get the boots from? I tried to go through the burrows and made it through to the other side... but couldn't find a way to village on that side either.

BTW, really, really, really fun game Both 1 and 2!

    jes,
if you've made it through the Burrows then you haven't far to go. You don't need any special equipment. The maze is navigable with what you have.

    Spoiler Mark of M

    SPOILER

Coming back to the 4 wizards quests after much running around. I have the SKYLARK and have turned in all of the stones. Is there a starting point for Mark of Magello quest. I've gone around the map from the canoe canoe sign location but nothing happens.

P.S. please tell me this isn't a small dev giggle to get me to go around the map in a canoe when all I had to do was walk around a canoe or something. That would be funny though.

    Matthewsh,
    That should work.
Did you get out of the canoe at any point going around? You have to stay in the whole time

Went around globe three times from canoe canoe island

    1. Once I got out by accidentally hitting land
    2. I was hit by a land side animal
    3. No getting out or getting hit and I received the Mark

Finished. Thanks Flat Black Films folks. I loved it. 5 star review on iTunes.

    Thanks Matthewsh!

That's weird, I didn't know that getting hit by a monster would invalidate the trip -- I'll look into that.
