When I started I saw torches on vendors. I went and leveled up a character for awhile, bought weapons and armor and bigger bags, etc, and I went to buy torches to go into the 1st dungeon and no vendor seems to have them now. I can't go in dungeons and I seemed to have explored all the land mass I can get to. I can't advance any plot because I'm told to go to the dungeon. Am I missing something?
The spell Glim is a light spell. In later levels mana becomes plentiful so maybe that's why torches are dropped from shops
Hey ZarkSeven, Yeah I'm sorry that is a bug that several people have run into now. I didn't really account for people leveling up so far before they hit the first dungeon. I thought level 2 would be about as high as someone would go before that. The torches stop being sold at level 4, and I think you can get them as loot drops until level 6. In the first dungeon you get a wand and the light spell, so there's little use for torches after that... The game doesn't really scale to match your level so that first dungeon would be super easy if you are higher than level 3 or 4. Although, not in the dark of course I will fix this in an update but that is probably a couple of weeks away. One update will hopefully release this weekend but that's the one I submitted 10 days ago. If you don't want to start over, email me and I can send you a map of the first dungeon -- it is simple enough that you could bumble through it in the dark and reach the torch in one of the chests there. Use the Contact Developer button in the Optons.
I must have missed another clue somewhere. I did the 4 dungeons for Pynchon and acquired the Dragon Armor and Zordmurk. I could have sworn I was then sent to Azamon. I finally worked all the way to her and found her invincible. I was obviously jumping too far ahead. Any ideas where to go? This is where a quest log would be nice.
That is a good idea. You can hit that first dungeon with how strong you are and get to the boss with ease I would think. Far better option then starting over. I am thinking if not first pass the 2nd or 3rd for sure. Just leave early if things go bad restock and go...the map will be clear. Go left at the first junction when starting. A real gem of a game.
Gord. I've heard of him but must have missed the clue as to where he is. I'm assuming he has something to rid the force fields I've been running into. Do you remember where to find him? Thanks for the help.
Bobish, you are almost there. You need to talk to Bob, he's Spoiler in the cave south of Anaka, which is on an island west of the Queens Castle, over near that tunnel you went through early on.
I plugged away in the dark and found a chest with a torch, which lasted me just until the end of the dungeon, so I'm past it. Loving the game.
Babiston. Finished this one tonight. Bravo! Other than the map labels and quest log, I still wouldn't change a thing other than the "Welcome Back" crashes that reared it's head mainly during the last act of the game. Sounds like that will be fixed in your next update. Thanks for a great experience. I'd love to see you tackle an homage to "Wizardry"with a "Bane Of The Cosmic Forge" tribute.
Maybe a bit selfish but I disagree on the wizardy homage. 1) First off the cost/profit aspect. Doing a lowlander 2 requires little upfront costs. We are talking adding bells and whistles and a new storyline. That is a far cry from building a new rpg based upon a new retro title. 2) If you can not make money on a RPGs based upon Ultima what are the chances of a wizardry game making any money? 3) Do not ever let a first games profit determine its future. There would be no second game ever built most of the time. Most 1st games are not a huge success. 4) off topic a bit but did anyone ever play the game Questron from SSI? It was like ultima with a gambling addiction! Seriously a classic. Just sayin' 5) if a guy makes a game like lowlander one would expect that person should make a great deal of money. It may take a 2 or 3 try to gain mass following......
Gord. I was kidding maybe just a little bit with my Wizardy wish. I agree 100% with your comment. But it is cool for a 50 something year old like myself to see that the old classic RPGs can be recreated / reborn to this level of quality and obvious devotion by a devoted developer.
Once again a lowlander 2 with the same engine would to me as a developer be more fun, less risk to create then the original game or a new title. So much of my time would be toward the creativity aspect when the technical aspect has already been established. A huge world is already established here folks, let's populate it with great things... That is what makes classics. You would never have ultima 4 if you quit at ultima 2. Just common sense working....and brand recognition.....
Bobish, I am 43. Think Of the popular game Wayward Souls only lowlander style....there is got to be a way lowlander can hit this! Not its style but it color, sounds, atmosphere in the ultima world on smartphones.....Anyway, to much talking about a game. Thanks for the chat hoping for the future.
@bobish Congratulatons! And thanks! I'm a little worried that the Welcome Back bug may not be fixed. The one I fixed only occurs when you leave the game while you are in the Skylark. It sounds like you were getting a hang at other times. That update will release tomorrow I think. I'm 47 and Wizardry was definitely the other classic RPG from my Apple II days. Wizardry III was about as far as I got, though -- never made it to "Bane of the Cosmic Forge" (I googled it) @Gord I have seen other people mention Questron so I googled that too. Looks fun, maybe I can play it in an emulator. It's interesting -- Wikipedia says it was so close to Ultima that they settled out of court with Garriott! Speaking of which, making Lowlander was a lot of fun and the reception has been pretty positive, so I'll probably try to do another one. However, I've never felt good about making something so derivative. I'm hoping that if I do another one In can distance it somewhat from the straight-up homage that Lowlander is.
Damn, I thought I would not reply again. Nope! There is something great going on here...everyone feels it.....
Enjoying this back to basics rpg but the fight button is a bit annoying I just want to walk into enemies to attack! Friendlies could have a conversation option to start fights if required. Also a current-quest reminder would help
So I am on my second go around and getting strong...any ideas or secrets to hit? Looting castles perhaps? Let me know. The only thing I think I missed was the very small island with something on it....
There probably aren't any cool easter eggs that you missed. I had my hands full just getting the main game to hang together I'm about to submit an update which has the two most-requested featured -- place names labeled on the map and a quest log. I hope it doesn't make the game too easy now!
