You collect a lot of coin. You also die a lot. It's a challenging game. The good thing about that is that you're usually left with way much more money than you need, making upgrading a cinch.
Sidestepping the debate for a moment... Can anyone shed any light on the different combos? I'm trying to tackle the challenge to beat level 1-5 with 7 Shuriken combos, but I can't reliably land Shurikens. Can someone explain the difference between, Shuriken, Tricky and Madness combos?
The funny thing is that we have the opposite of F2P design although it might look similar from the first sight because of all the stars and medals. F2P games might play well without spending money if you are an excelent player and can perfect the levels without any additional power-ups that are offered. But if you are bad, you HAVE to put money into it. Another popular strategy is to make player wait(spend his time) or pay money. In Lost Socks if you play bad, you have to replay levels many times and die a lot. And coins are not taken from you when you die. They stay. Therefore if you play bad, you will have enough coins to help you out. If you play good, there will be a lack of coins of course. BUT we also have a task system with rewards. So for those who complete our levels easily, there is a challange of completing the tasks which gives them enough money. And ton's of money will never make you just rush through the level. Weapons, upgrades and perks are limited by the stars and medals that you earn by mastering the levels. Oh, and we have made EVERYTHING to make you wait as little as possible. Death restart time(with timings of death screen and pressing replay button takes about 0.7 seconds) This was never designed to be an f2p project.
imho, grinding is a condition where you have to replaying each levels like more than a hundred times just to get an item(yes only one item), if you need an examples, something like dead trigger, clash of clans, clash royale, and so on. just for the record here, i used to be the "dead trigger squat defense team" if you ever heard of it , until someday i just realize that the developer(madfingers) already lose their mojo, their main purpose and passion in making games that makes me love them, all their products. i can assure that this is not the case with lost socks. this game was meant to be premium since the beginning and i can even feel it when im playing it. lots of coins, yes lots of that you can gain from replaying a level like maybe 5-10 times(not more than a hundred times like the others). hope you can understand what im trying to say here ps. ever heard of hayday and farmville? thats the perfect examples of grinding, even after playing for years, you can never, yes never ever get all the items there without paying and that my friend...a TRUE master of grinding one of the feature that i love, oh did you guys even take count the replay time?
Sorry but comparing Lost Socks to a free to play game is madness imho. Even more because I feel Lost Socks can be a testament to premium games, they went the total opposite route. Since when replaying a level because you die (not to amass coins, stars, crystal or whatnot) is grinding? Grinding to me is unnecessary replaying levels because the devs planned this from the very beginning, giving you eventual shortcuts (i.e.: paying). Here you do not replay levels because they planned so. Here you replay levels because you aren't good enough. And mind you...even if you could, paying wouldn't give you any advantage, because to get better weapons, you have to sweat your way just playing and getting better at the game. In this game they really went the opposite route to free to play, making sure you MUST get better at the game to get anything. Not only you have to to 3 star or crown a level (which is a great part of the FUN in the game, because doing so is really satisfying) to unlock weapons, then you have to level up with gold that you earn playing (you retain everything even if die...so you won't ever be without said gold, even if you suck). And what if you are really good at the game?....no problems....they gave you additional tasks to complete to earn massive amounts of gold (they are very fun too...and they are a TON). Was I grinding when I played back in the days Mission Impossibile, Rygar, Ghost&Goblins, Rayman, Super Mario???? Dying million times? Spending all my parents money at arcades? Always with a grin on my face? Sorry for the rant, but there are millions of free to play games in the AppStore....this could have been one. But it's not. And I really appreciate the devs for being so daring, and I hope they will earn their deserved money. Or next time I'll play some other their game where everytime I die I'll have to pay or wait 30 seconds, or watch an ad, to proceed...(i.e.: I won't play it). This is all hypothetical because I'm sure Nerfgames will make a lot of money as they deserve, and already working on a new game in the same vein. Right?
No, I had not seen that! Thanks. Looks like it's a case of attacking from a greater distance, avoiding coins and not shooting first that I need to master.
Good to know people! I was just putting my two cents in about a concern I had as I've been burned in the past with "premium" games that had a coin collecting aspect that was definitely not balanced for a premium game. As I said in my original post, I've yet to buy the game because of these concerns and I was only in essence asking for you folks to clear this matter. Thanks!
Please tell us your feelings after you've played a while. It's always interesting to get a review from non-loyal players)
I'm struggeling with the 1.5 shuriken challenge too, but to me this feels more like a little ingame problem ...? Because it's like this: you can do a perfect shuriken, but if you grab 5 coins at the same time, the game will give you a coin reaper, and a coin reaper only! And you can do a perfect shuriken again, but if you kill two of the bad guys with this move you'll only get a saw. If that's not a bug, it would be a lil bit arbitrary, wouldn't it? In fact I get reapers and saws and trickys and whatever all the time, but have trouble to get even one shuriken in that level. And since I can see absolutely no fkin way to ever finish 1.4 without getting more than 2 coins I'm afraid I'm already done with the challenges ... :/ Added to this, shuriken or not, you still need to stay alife lol. There seem to be a lot of levels, and I'd fancy to play them all, but it's quite possible I won't see the most of them. I absolutely love this game, and I do know that a good game has to be challenging, but at this point I'm afraid this might be one of those games that sadly kill themselves 'cause they get way too hard way too early.
Hello everyone! I am Lost Socks game designer. And i want something from all of you. Please post your reviews in App Store too. So folks hwo do not know about toucharcade will be informed about awesomeness of this game. This is really important for games with high prices. Thanks!
Don't focus on the tasks for now...later on you will be MUCH more powerful and with almost double health, so you can focus on the tasks much better and they will be way easier. Not to say that the 7 shurikens in 1.5 are easy, by any means. And yes, 1.4 with no more than 2 coins is doable (I did it some days ago). You really have to carefully choose your way and try to avoid everything, including killing monsters.
We have combo priority in the game. If in one moment many combos was happened only 1 will show to you (and will count as combo in game engine). Shuriken have lowest level in priority. So if you want to do this - read all combos descriptions and follow them. To do shuriken you need to jump and: -be not so close to an enemy (or madness will pop up) -do not shoot an enemy before dash (or knockout will pop up) -do not collect coin before or in dash (or tricky will pop up)
Purchased. Thanks for not giving in to the F2P craze and putting out a GOOD game. I left a review on the App Store as well.
Went to bed happy and then was so confused when reading this thread. What happened here and how did it get derailed? This game should be used as an example to other devs on the right way to make an awesome premium game. Yes it's hard (but it's not impossibly frantic) and yes there are upgrades (this adds to the replayability aspect)....but, there are no IAPs and no online connection required. Two elements, that in my opinion ruin games. This is an amazing platformer that is just plain fun. I know everyone likes different things, but cannot see how there could be any negative feelings towards this. Even the load times are perfect. When you die, you are back at it in less than a second. I was lucky enough to grab an early code and was able to form my own opinion prior to reading anything else. In an app store filled with so many "good" games that don't fulfill their potential to become "great" due to f2p shannanagans, this should be pointed to vs whatever that Clan game is that was just released. Congrats again on making a great game and really hope others dive in as well. Nothing should hold you back.
