Sword & Poker 2 and Orions 1&2 were two of my original inspirations, along with the old Microprose PC game MTG: duels of the plainswalkers.
OMG how I've been longing for someone to grab the old MTG shandalar game and port it across. I know it's just a dream and will never happen but man that is basically my ultimate "if you got one wish for a port to come to mobile". Lucky for all of us, there's devs like you that take inspiration and make something of it for everyone to enjoy!
Hey LF, What is the "chance" of those chances stated in the level up descriptions being declared in the description itself? My point is: if the chance is only 1% for something to happen, then my decision to go that path is going to be very different from if the chance is say 50%. If this is a game balance thing by design and you don't want to reveal the figures either here or in game, then that's fine. I'm just wondering. Edit: ok I see now that the chance is displayed for each trait BUT only once unlock. Well I've only unlocked one with a chance on it so far but that seems to be the way. I just then out more points into it and the chance displayed went up some points again. Hmmm. That sounds pretty good. Wasn't too hard for me to spot, but did have to pay attention. There may be a better way to word those descriptions and what's going to happen. Like: "next point adds +2% chance". I haven't yet seen if that chance just keeps going up in that "aura of life" trait yet if I just keep putting points into health generally, or if it Max's out when leveling up to the next trait. Only one way to find out. Haven't read the manual yet so maybe this is covered?
Played On iPad with blue and red, finished at level 27. So much fun!! Going to try green and black. Can't wait for expansion!! Thank you, LordFoul!!
I like this game so far. It's so rare to see a premium CCG... Haven't played a lot of them so I'm playing on easy, but I know what I'm going to waste my time on today.
Thanks for the feedback - as you had guessed, the chances do go up as you put more points into an ability. I'll look at how to enhance the wording to make it more obvious so you can make more informed choices. The chances for one sub ability don't max out when you hit another unlock.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the game! I appreciate the positive feedback. I look forward to making an expansion as well - hopefully sales will reach a level to support it. Creating new cards / abilities is really fun. I will continue to look to folks on here for suggestions for what they want to see in the game - new game modes, new cards, etc.
I've thought along similar lines for other ways to have a some cards 'auto-cast' on your opponent's turn to do things like prevent an attack, protect a creature, etc. I'll add it to the list to investigate for an expansion.
The money issue bothers me a little, since this is the kind of game that I like to play but that I'm terrible at... Also, the players loses 3 life when you draw a card with an empty deck, but enemies don't have that penalty? And is the gold gain in duels affected by difficulty?
You made me go test that in case it was a bug. No, both players will lose 3 life any time they try to draw a card and can't because they are out of cards in their deck. As for gold gains/losses in duels, It is based on the value of the cards you would have won/lost, had it not been gold instead. So if you would have lost a rare, but lose gold instead, you lose more gold than if it had been a common chosen. So, yes, a lot of luck based on what gets selected from your deck. There is no difference in that selection process or the amount of gold won/lost between easy and normal. The amount of gold lost/gained does not change with hard/extreme either, you just risk losing actual cards from your deck which can be really painful. It would be something simple to change if 'easy' is not easy enough. Or I could even create a 'beginner' difficulty level that never loses gold, so you'd have no penalty for losing other than having to duel again.
Yay! I'll go put a copy on my wife's iPad. Now I'm going to try resit playing until the iPad supported version comes out ... It'll be hard, since I think the interface is surprisingly good on an iPad as-is. I'm curious: Did the first patch make the "Hard" level harder? It seems like it, but I may have just had a string of good luck before the patch.
Working on the iPad support as we speak; looking good so far. I did not change anything about hard difficulty in the first patch.
The dungeon layouts are fixed and the locations of enemies is not random. Except for bosses and some others, the enemy at a particular location is randomly selected from a set for that dungeon. Treasure you find in the dungeon is generally random as well. I'd love to add some random dungeons, both side quests you might pick up through the course of play and an endless mode of some sort for the end-game, so you could keep playing once the main quest is finished.
@LordFoul Now that I've leveled up my Vitality enough to start matches occasionally with a creature already in play, are those summoned creatures supposed to be completely random or at least somewhat match my primary mana/domain? I'm running an all black deck but have noticed the pre-battle summons have mostly been green so far, including monsters with green mana activated abilities. Random and Endless dungeons would be a very appreciated addition! As stated earlier, an endless dungeon in which the player's deck is locked would also be an interesting take to really test one's deck's mettle.
Gatekeeper summons a random creature from a set of commons made up of all four colors, as you'll see as you continue to play. It has just been random luck so far that got you the green creatures. I've recorded your preference for a challenge mode where you can't change your deck for the duration! There are definitely a few different directions an endless mode could go, so it will be fun working through that.
Thanks for such an awesome game. Pulled me away from Crashlands and I didn't go back until I finished Lost Portals. For anyone in the fence, I highly recommend this game if you like Magic, Spectromancer, or any of the CCG deck building games. I'm looking forward to any expansion or mode where I can use my killer 4 color deck some more. LordFoul, is there a list of all available cards anywhere? I assume I've seen them all through play, be it in other decks, the forge, or card seller, but just curious. I got that 1 four color artifact that I love, and was wondering if I missed any other multi-color cards. Thanks for such a great game. I hope it does well enough for you to continue working on more content.
@RichardC Thanks for those comments, glad to hear you are enjoying it! If you press the "Library" label in the deck editor (or card shop) it will toggle so you can see all 175 cards in the game. The filters can work from there, of course. There aren't any other gold cards yet, and yes it is awesome! Definitely planning to create more!
