I have a card I'm working on that behaves in a similar manner - you put it in front of an enemy creature, it does no damage, but when it is attacked or killed, it triggers a nasty effect such as killing the opposing creature, gaining life, etc. Still working on it, so I'll keep your idea in mind as I test it out.
A few card ideas- movement based: Touch of Chaos- cost 1 red- destruction- target creature takes 1 damage and moves to a random empty space. Telekinesis- cost 2 blue- alteration- move target creature to target space. Acolyte of Chaos- cost 3 red- creature- 5/3- at the end of turn, move to a random empty space (on your side of the field). [this is a drawback imo, because with the low health it has it could move into an attack] adjacency based + tribal: Moon Druid- cost 3 green- creature- 2/4- if played across from a creature assumes bear form, gains armored, if played across from an empty space assumes wolf form, gains rush. Sun Druid- cost 3 green- creature- 2/4- if played across from a creature assumes cobra form, gains venomous, if played across from an empty space assumes hawk form, +3 attack. Boar Totem- cost 4 green- creature- 3/5- if played adjacent to a druid gains +1 life and regenerate. Owl Totem- cost 2 green- creature- 1/2- if played adjacent to a druid, draw a card. interesting stuff that would be hard to do with physical cards: Astral Thievery- cost 2 gold- steal the top 3 cards of your opponent's deck (add them to your hand). Seeds of the Great Oak- cost 1 green- Invocation- add 2 "Sapling of the Great Oak" to your hand. Sapling of the Great Oak- cost 2 green- creature- 0/2- each turn spent in hand add +1/+1 to this creature.
@Armadi - thanks for all of the ideas. I'll keep them in mind as I finish up the cards for the new expansion.
That interview is a great read. Love the new cards previewed there. The expansion is a must purchase for me. Also looking forward to the next game. Star Portal sounds great! Take your time getting it right and keep up the good work, dev! I'm guessing the "pitch" mechanic on the preview cards is something that happens if you play the card to the discard pile instead of onto the listed target.
I'm doing my best to add some interesting cards to the expansion. The pitch mechanic has you pay 1/2 the casting cost (rounded down) and discard the card for the indicated effect. A few of the new cards have it and it gives them some flexibility.
I bought this game and was terrible at it, so deleted it. After seeing more and more great things being written about the game, I downloaded it again to retry. But, I still couldn't manage any success (I mean I am horrible). Is there a guide, or tips that would help me have some success with this game? I think I would like it if only I would not get crushed every time I played.
I can give you a few tips - 1. Switch to EASY difficulty. You can edit your existing campaign, so you don't have to restart unless you want to. Once you get the hang of it, you can always up the difficulty later. 2. Try a different starting color, as you may find one color easier to start with based on your play style. 3. Stick to one color. Adding other color cards to your deck early on is going to make it difficult or impossible to cast those cards. 4. Deck management is a big part of the game; you have to make sure you have the right percentage of Aeons (~38% or so). Too many and you will get flooded with them and not have any spells to cast. Too few and you won't have energy to cast your spells. 5. Don't just put the largest spells you can find into your deck, as you will have slow starts. You want a good mix of different casting costs. 6. You should have a good percentage of creatures in your deck as well, since they deal damage to your opponent every turn and can protect you. Hope these help; if you have any specific questions just let me know and I'll be happy to answer.
One thing to consider when playing is not placing a creature opposite an opponent's creature if it will just die on the next turn. People have said that green is the hardest color to start with and I agree although imo it isn't that weak, I would recommend starting with black though. Consider increasing wisdom to start- 20 wisdom guarantees that you have 2 mana of your starting color on the first turn, and bonus experience is nice. After that, think about agility- it has some nice bonuses.
Mindshade The tooltip on the card says that it replicates at the start of each turn, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is this ability working as intended? Sorry to post this here, but didn't see a link in app for reporting issues.
Sorry - didn't read closely enough. Replicate works properly if there is an enemy creature opposing - thanks
It has been a little while since my last post, so I thought I'd take a break from playing Card Thief (and working on new Lost Portal cards) to give you an idea where things are at. I decided to add some more Avatar cards for some of the enemies that don't have one yet, so there are now 48 new cards coming in the next update - 31 with the paid expansion and 17 new Avatar cards that will be available to all. The In-App store is coded up and works for unlocking the expansion. I have quite a bit more testing to do, particularly with all the newly added Avatar cards, along with some coding for the new dungeons and tuning of the AI. Here are a couple of new cards, although subject to change as testing progresses.
I play this game almost two year and I have to say, that this is the best card game for iOS and maybe the best game for iOS ever. Many type of cards, decent graphics, extremely long. Thank you so much for your work!
Wow, thanks! There are a lot of great games out there on the App Store, so glad to hear you've had fun with Lost Portal for so long. The next update will bring around 50 new cards to the game to mix things up a bit. About 33 of them are part of a paid expansion that also adds a new town, enemies, and bosses. The rest are new Avatar cards that everyone will have available. The expansion will also increase the level cap by 2 and unlock several more character portraits that you can use. By request, one of the new dungeons will have an enemy that has a LOT of life. When will it be available? I have one more dungeon to work through and then some more testing and tweaking to do, but it should not be too much longer.
