This is such a fantastic game! I admit that I felt overwhelmed early on when I looked at the deck editor but after a few hours, it wasn't as daunting as I initially thought. The speed of each duel is what impressed me the most. Some CCGs I've played can have matches that can drag too long and it is refreshing to not experience that in LP. Thanks for making the game, dev.
I got a promotional code directly from the Dev after showing interest in the game. It was an extremely thoughtful surprise. I promised him my thoughts on the game on this thread after playing it in return. I'm long overdue on that promise. This is by far the best premium card game on the App Store. Hands down. No IAP. Completely single player. Great card balance and deck building. Unique card types. Plenty of little rpg mechanics thrown in. I literally can't think of a bad thing to constructively criticize. It makes me want more. I will automatically buy anything this Dev releases without a second thought. Such an incredible debut. Well done Dev and thank you so much for the code and the memories!
I don't understand the limit to the number of cards in a deck. I seem to be able to put in more cards even though I've reached my limit (assuming that the small numbers denote the lower and upper limits). Can anyone clarify this?
Is there anywhere online I can view the cards in this game? The thing that puts me off buying it is that there is no way to backup progress so if I get a new phone or delete the game and reinstall I have to start again.
That is a bug with the recently added up/down arrows that allows you to exceed your deck maximum. I already have it fixed and it will be in the next update.
Sorry, I don't have a full card list up on lostportalccg.com. If you backup your phone and restore to the new one, your progress is carried over. iCloud support is on the wish list, but I'm not actively working on it, so I would not expect it anytime soon. And you are right, if you delete the app, your progress is lost.
Glad you like the gameplay! I have played many CCG's as well and that is one of my favorite aspects of Lost Portal as well - how fast it plays. Also I love how you can pick it up and stop at any time without worries of getting disconnected, so it is good for a few minutes here or there. I am currently working on adding some short tutorials for each screen that should help when you first look at the deck editor, forge, card shop, etc. Those will also come in the next update.
So that's why. I though that there was a punishment mechanic when one exceeds the deck limit thus explaining how at times I am very unlucky in my draws (all aeons draws and no monsters lol). Anyhow, what is your take on deck size? Is it better to have it large or small? I am not that good at CCGs and have been a dabbler at best.
A smaller deck will be more consistent. However, I've played with larger decks as well, as I like the variety that provides when playing. Either way, make sure your aeon percentage is right, generally in the 30's.
Werebeast card effect The Werebeast card effect reads: "Infect: when the infected creature dies, a Werebeast comes in to play for the enemy player" So the "enemy player" is always the opposite player to the player that has the "infected creature" (that Werebeast infected). As long as Werebeast gets a hit in after each reincarnation, it will just keep re-spawning. Wow that's good for a 3 cost. The only way to deal with it is removal or attack damage nerf effects like frostbite. I guess I'm just getting my thoughts out for a sanity check. This was originally intended to be a "is this a bug" post but over the time of writing this I'm getting used to the Werebeast concept. Strong 3-coster. And I echo those congratulations for a 5 star Review. Well deserved.
Yes, creatures infected by Werebeast generate another Werebeast when they die, and the enemy of the infected creature gains that Werebeast. So it can be tough to eliminate by blocking, as your creature gets infected. Creatures with rush are a good way to deal with them, or as you said, some destruction or alteration spell to kill or neutralize it.
Deck size: Happily, unlike some CCGs, "consistency" in LP really is more about minimizing flood/famine and putting your best cards in play, not drawing into the deck's killer combo. All other things being equal, I'd say smaller is better ... even if choosing what cards to forego is painful. But if you're running out of cards in matches - a real possibility in LP (at least at the higher difficulties) - you might have to grow your deck. OTOH, my strongest deck so far was a maximum-size Blue deck that featured a lot of card-draw. LP is a great game: The cards are balanced well enough, and varied enough, that which is better - a large or small deck - can change from play-through to play-through, based on the cards you've obtained and the stats you pursue.
Help? I'm trying really hard to like this game, but I can't seem to get over the difficulty curve? I've just finished the rat den, but am completely unable to get past the very first creature in the next 2 dungeons (Troll Caverns and Deadwood). I'm playing on casual and am stuck. I've tried 3 times on each and am fairly confident theres no way my deck can get past them. Tips?
Generally, you should look over the card shops (in the Rat Hole and town) to see if there are any cards you can buy and add to your deck to improve it. You also should make sure your aeon percentage is good (i.e., 30's or so). One suggestion is to leave that game for now and go start another game on easy. It just reduces the enemy's stats a little bit, so they have a little less health, etc. Perhaps try a different color. Then as you get more comfortable you can come back to the first game and apply what you've learned. If you want more help, you can message me directly with more details of your deck, etc. and I'll be happy to try to help you.
@Tarquelne Great points. Yes, Blue decks with all of the card draw can really run out of cards if they are too small. Thanks for the nice comments about the game!
Can't give tips but if it's any consolation, I was the same at first. LordFoul has given some good advice but apart from that, just persevere. You'll do it eventually and find things begin to level out a bit - but that said, you will encounter plenty of losses for every win until you get a decent deck and strategy. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice! Yeah, that painful feeling of foregoing a card hits me a lot when trimming my deck. I should learn to prioritise what cards I want to use and what strategy or combos I want to utilise, instead of focusing on the strength of any one card.
The matches in LP is quick enough to warrant you to try more than 3 times to get through an enemy. If you are afraid of losing money, I would suggest to buy cards or upgrade your skills before fighting a difficult enemy. You'll have less to lose by doing that. Like what the others said, you'll learn as you go along. Maybe you can lower the difficulty or start out with a different deck.
Getting closer with the next update, which will include some additional help for each of the main screens. Another thing I'm adding are some symbols for each color, at the request of someone who is color blind and was having trouble distinguishing between some of the card colors. The large version of each card will have the color symbols, which you can press for more information, and the color filters will be updated as well.
