My original inspiration for the game involved playing Sword & Poker 2 and Orions and wishing they were both more like Magic: The Gathering, in particular the old PC game Shandalar. That game starts you off with a basic deck and as you explore and defeat enemies, you can win or lose cards. As you win new cards, you can add them to your deck and strengthen it, but those cards become "at risk" the next time you duel.

Creature attacks in Lost Portal are much like Orions or Spectromancer - your creatures attack at the end of your turn and you do not have to tap them or drag them to do so. This speeds up gameplay, but there is still a lot of strategy with decisions such as when to block or not when casting a new creature, or which creature to target with a destruction or alteration spell, etc.

As for the towns/dungeons, there are five towns and fifteen dungeons to explore. They are not randomly generated, but there is randomness in populating the enemies and treasure. The card shops and forges are also randomly populated, so the cards you find in a particular game will vary.

Finished once on normal. Absolutely love the game.

Regarding difficulties, any plans on perhaps having an Extreme version but Not losing cards from the deck? I don't mind losing gold, but hate losing cards ;p

Glad to hear you are enjoying the game! I've considered adding another difficulty level or two, so I'll add your request to the list.

Absolutely love the game. I've only played Hearthstone before, but unless you buy tons of cards, you will end up losing a lot.
What I would love to see is a dungeon with res pawning enemies and cards, so you can farm for cards, gold or XP.
The deeper you go, the harder it gets of course, but the rewards are better too.

And sometimes it is fun to just squish an opponent with a superior deck.

So glad to hear you are enjoying the game! Spread the word and leave positive reviews! I am currently looking into some random dungeon possibilities, both for the end game and perhaps earlier, which would give some good farming opportunities.

You got a 5 star review in the App Store. :)

    Really appreciate the effort.
I know RNG can be a prick sometimes, but any deck can win over any deck, sometimes you just don't get the right cards.
I've had games where my first 12 cards were mana or destruction cards. Needless to say that duel wasn't won.
Try again and I obliterated my opponent because RNG did the same mana/destruction thing to him, and I got creature and mana cards at a steady pace. I think I lost 3 HP because he used a destro card on me.

I never got into Magic the gathering but I like the concept and gameplay. And this game just hits all the right tunes in my book.

Once again, I really can't recommend this game enough. Dev has done a great job, seems to be open to community suggestions and continues to bring out updates to improve gameplay. Well worth your £2.29.....or equivalent regional monetary denomination!

@Lordfoul - I definitely agree an infinite dungeon mode would be a huge asset to the game. As for the earlier comment from someone about an extreme mode but with the option to keep cards - could you implement a game option screen when starting a new run, giving the player the choice over things like penalties, increased drop rates for gold/cards, AI difficulty etc......let the player customise their own experience, provide them with an adjustable 'challenge bar' that they can move according to how comfortable they are with playing the game?

Also - haven't really thought this through so there may be something glaringly obvious that I haven't considered (also accept that the balancing would probably need to be reworked).....but....to avoid the issue of the first x number of turns only giving mana and no actual creature cards thereby causing you to lose almost instantly, could the mana not be split in to a separate pool where one card is taken each round as well as a creature/item card? Like I say, you would probably need to address the balancing (mana costs per card) to do this and I appreciate that may be a lot of work - but drawing nothing but mana cards for 6/7/8+ rounds etc and then being in too weak a position to claw back a victory is annoying and happens a little too frequently at times. Either that or perhaps write in an addition to the game code prohibiting more than x number of mana cards can be drawn in succession? Just a few thoughts, hope they help.

Either way, still a great game and well worth the money.

    Agree with the above 100%!

Shame that this does not get the attention it deserves. If you like MtG kind, this is the game which the mobile implementation should have been. And this game is done right.

Personally, I hate some other CCG out there who requires to grind rather than play and enjoy. This game is cheaper than buying a couple of booster packs from those "free-to-play" ones.

I don't mind paying more new game modes and more conents!

    I agree too.
I updated today Magic the Gathering Duels to see for anything new. I started a battle to see any difference and after some minutes my eyes were tired because of the small screen (iPhone 6) and all this too much information from this game. Despite the fact that I would like MtG on iphone, it's too painful to play !!! It's suitable mostly for ipad. It has too much information for a mobile: text, abilities, many cards, mana, etc..

On the contrary, this game: Lost Portal, it's awesome to play. It's on portrait, it's easy to play battles, quick A.I. and gameplay overall. It's enjoyable!

One note only: I think there is a bug when you concede and if you touch the screen to ..move on.. it freezes. It's not a big issue but if you can fix it, it would be great!

Bought. Love the idea of more single player-oriented card games after recently getting into Card City Nights.

Had forgotten about this one. I'm not a massive CCG fan but was curious to see what all the hype was when it released. Bought and downloaded it once but deleted shortly after thinking I wasn't that impressed - just re-downloaded to give it another whirl, maybe Lost Portal has changed my view of CCG's....we'll see.

Thanks for the comments and I'll give your suggestions some thought. I don't plan to make a big change like separating out aeons from non-aeons into separate piles, but I will consider some mulligan options (auto and/or manual) to help minimize bad starts.

I also wanted to chime in on how impressive this game has been so far. It triggers a straight dopamine release with warm fuzzy feelings of the MTG Shandalar game from Microprose. Overhead map, fighting duels to win cards, gradually improving your deck. My only sticking point is the difficulty of playing multi-color decks and always hoping to snag some of the dual color aeons after each match.

Multi-"colour" cards is not new but changes must be considered very carefully

One small change at a time, increase replayability may be your first goal.
