Mika answered this earlier, it shows up as a damage reduction, so the same attack at level 40 will do half as much damage as at level 1

Beside the Western theme what differentiates it from other Advance Wars types?

Nice. But this looks like 20 other Advance Wars based-games. Like Warbits. Beside the Western theme what differentiates it from those?

Warbits is good but I think this is much better. I find the story much more engaging and very well written, and the difficulty curve is also much better for me as I felt WB was much too difficult early on. Warbits had leader-like powers which was nice and similar to AW, but this has a solid skills growth Graphics in both are great. Def the best 2 Advance Wars type games on iOS. I just find this one more engaging that WB because of the story.

Separate note...I'm getting my butt handed to me on level 15. Any tips?

Hey, just got the game because I love everything Mika Mobile has done. I just wanted to say what an awesome mechanic this werewolf thing is. It's really interesting, and your game is great! Money well spent, and I hope you guys stick around for a long while :)

I too, would download anything MikaMobile!
That said, if you enjoyed the "kingturn" type games, this is similiar, but much better looking and feeling!

This game is definitely on a the upper end of the spectrum. Warbits did the safe thing, and didn't deviate much from what AW did. You'd think that with polished graphics and the same gameplay as AW, it would be a solid title. But Lost Frontier has made me realize the most important thing that turn-based-strategy games need: good level design. The levels in warbits introduced mechanics, which LF does too. But I stopped after the first few levels in warbits because they just weren't satisfying. Their designer I don't think understood how to give the player a good challenge. The levels were beatable, certainly, but they weren't carefully made to keep the player thinking. Mika has shown they understand this, and Kingturn did too.

Anyone else getting an 'avatar ghost' on screen after a dialogue box closes?

You nailed it. I played the first 5 or 6 levels in warbits but just never felt really engaged. Great graphics and great mechanics but weak story and little variation. Mika nailed the puzzle aspects of the levels and throwing in werewolves and zombies and mechanics to alter the levels was brilliant.

So does anyone have any good advice or level help? I havent gone much past level 16 and i have a level 40 legend (fast leveled McGraw to help devs; cuz their awesome!). I also tried some of the challenges and they are tough since enemy legends are all 40 and most of the new legends you play as here have no levels.

I guess I'm just looking for good wiki/playthrough material.

Love the game though! I never really got into the Adv Wars stuff, but this has me hooked!

I think the single most important tool you have is the range-checker.

You should always click on enemy units to be aware of where threats can come from, both melee and ranged. If you have 3 or more Melee units coming towards you, put your front line within range of only one of them. When they attack, it will be staggered and easier to deal with on your own terms. For ranged threats, always keep out of their range. But once their melee threats have dwindled, bum rush them. But again it's preferable to have them run up and meet your own prepared formation, rather than attack them in a disorganized fashion. The exception is if you can move your formation forward while also attacking.

When I say formation, I'm talking about your units and the way you have them positioned among each other. A good formation is more than just a posse in front and a rifle in back. For me at least, Doctors and Chuckwagons take priority when filling in space behind the front line. Keeping your formation together means always keeping a spot reserved for the medic units to go into behind the melee units. Rifles and cannons then go behind the medics. This set up means that any damage done next turn can be immediately healed, and immediately retaliated against.

This game is a lot like chess; it rewards the player who can read several moves ahead. It's not enough to just react to the AI's moves the turn it happens. Ideally, you want the AI to crash against your prepared formation, or rush in before its able to defend itself.

This game might look cartoony but it's not easy at all. I found it much more difficult than Advance Wars. Took me at least 5 tries to even get 3 stars on the 3rd level. The "no death" star is extremely difficult to get on most of the levels, thanks to the fact that all units have identical HP/attack power, it's almost like trying to win chess without losing any pieces.

I'm not sure what exactly is the purpose of "hero units" if they are completely identical to regular units? Same HP, same attack power, same movement speed, no special moves.

Also there needs to be a "skip tutorial" option... watching the same instructions repeat every single time I start a level gets annoying after a while, especially since I have to play each level multiple times to get 3 stars.

Also, since there are terrain buffs/debuffs, you should be able to tap on a terrain tile and see information regarding it. Sometimes it's hard to tell which type of terrain has buff/debuff. Fire Emblem does this very well when you hover over a tile, tells you exactly what DEF/AVD it gives.

What about for 1: add an option in the options menu to enable "auto-end turn" once all units moves are used up so it's instant after you have no more moves?

Btw loving the game so much! o3o

All true, on the other hand, as someone who can't leave a level with less than three stars, I'm finding the trial and error needed to work out the puzzles, a bit frustrating. Wondering if I'm alone? So, if tightly crafted, chess-like puzzles are your thing: enjoy.

    Possible bug

Hi Mika Mobile! Thank you very much for this awesome game! I just completed it this evening and it certainly gave my brain a workout. Now I'm encountering a bit of a bug though. Every time a complete a chapter in story mode with any legend, before arriving back at the mission select screen it triggers the ending scene with all the legends saying "Thanks for Playing!"

Oops... if you quit the app entirely it should stop doing that. I'll have to patch that.
