I know what you mean, getting frustrated with the trial and error. On some levels, it's smooth sailing, and then through an oversight I lose a single guy, or just enough to make it 2 stars. What I've started to do is use the Save and Exit option in the menu if I'm ending on a. Turn in unsure of. It doesn't seem too much like cheating, since my goal is just to learn from my mistakes and not have to repeat what I already know. @MikaMobile Maybe we could have an option to save in the middle of a level? We already have the Save and Exit button, maybe we could a Save button and a Revert to Last Save button. People who are looking for a challenge would forgo it, but I'm sure it would be helpful for those of us tired of the trial and error process.
Pocket Gamer usually has really well thought out and accurate reviews so I searched their site. As far as I can tell they haven't reviewed it...they do announce its arrival. The closest thing I can find to a review is this little tidbit "It's a game strategy fans shouldn't miss then and it oozes with charm and polish. It contains a full single player campaign with multiple heroes and a skirmish mode playable against the AI or a friend locally. Seriously, don't miss this one." which they post at the end of the Android announcement. Seems like high praise for a game they gave a 3/10.
Pocketgamer's "reviews" became a joke. In fact, a bad one. Brawwwn is mocking the trend. They haven't reviewed it yet.
Chapter 18 is giving me a lot of trouble. Enemies are coming from everywhere... Any strategy to beat this level ?
Any tips for level 15? I'm getting killed with all the zombies rushing me from the top. Can't build anything in time to block them. I hate asking for help but I'm not even close to getting past this one
This one took me a few tries, but its doable. It mostly boils down to funneling enemies through while you heal damage they do. The top area where it mostly zombies benefits from at least one slayer; probably 2. Generally i broke down each pathway into - vehicles with engineer and a few guys in the larger entrance, then each of the sides with units like slayers to plug each hole and switch out wounded with a doc/chuck wagon. Its fairly straightforward overall, but its not easy due to limited resources. You also want to think carefully about your moves with the planes. You general want yours on top of the rocks until they are ready to strike the right units, but you still need to time it right so they can take out a unit with little retaliation. For more specific details, I'd have to look at the level again but hopefully all that helps.
All this is good stuff. My problem is when the enemy does something risky like lead the charge with their cannons (happens after i make a formation on level 19). Normally i would 'take one for the team' on a guy or 2 to bring down the cannon since its not an overall smart move on there part, but this level gives me only a few guys with no backup so each unit is precious and when 3 ghouls are behind their cannons, its hard to justify the sacrifice. I guess level 19 is just more trial and error until i can find out what the AI will do to each of my moves. Kind of annoying, but its not that bad.
Thanks, the advice about the planes was really helpful since it allowed me to keep them alive longer. Finally beat the level.
Playing defensively seems to be the key to the campaign in this game. You're outnumbered (in units and structures) in almost every mission so checking attack ranges and falling back to minimize casualties is almost always a good idea. It seems you can't really afford to "bait" enemies with a sacrifice until you have decent income and structures of your own. In later maps the enemy is pretty aggressive with spending so guarding choke points is a good strat. I found that as long as you can wipe out enemies quickly as they approach a formation, the enemy starts to panic and replace them with cheap units. It seems rare that they'll save up for something expensive once you've killed many of their troops.
Yea, i guess i can pull back more and see if they change formation and give me a better unit to attack into. As said though, this one feels more trail and error to see what the computer will do. You also have a bit of an uncontrolled factor with the vampire allies attacking the enemy in the back; no telling for sure how long they survive, but they are usually beaten by the corner force of the enemy.
Suggestions: - Add "skip all dialogue" option. Jump straight to the first round without any of the tutorial stuff on how to tap on units or how to attack enemies. There's no point revisiting this every time player replays stage (and since this game is challenging, players have to replay each stage dozens of times anyways). Gets very tiring seeing for the 10th time "how to attack a saloon" - Bottom left/right should display current highlighted environment tile's info. Name of tile + Any def/atk buff/debuff? Do the same thing Fire Emblem did and clearly highlight the tiles that give these buff/debuff. Right now I have no idea which tiles has any effects, or even what they are. For example if you tap on a building, it should actually say in a corner what building this is, any $ bonus and whether or not you can interact with it
What exactly is the point of leveling up if I don't get any bonuses? It clearly says I receive bonuses like increased hp or Dmg but I never noticed any difference whatsoever? Dmg range is completely identical as level 1. Also there is no movement speed bonus either when traversing obstacles even though one of the level up bonuses clearly said units now don't slow down when walking across obstacles??
HP is always seen as 100 (think of it like percentage). So when you do more damage you do more percent. When you get hit you lose less percent etc. When you walk through cacti you move slower eg you might be able to walk 6 tiles across desert but only 3 across cacti. Any buffs to range would only be one tile I would assume for the sake of balance.
Any strategy for chapter 24 ? There really are too many enemies to handle. I'm also not too sure which units I should buy, I think it's one of my main issues in this level.
And how is XP calculated for this game? It sometimes seems like the longer you take for a match, the more XP. Is it based on how many enemies you kill? How many kills your hero gets? How quick you finish? How many stars you get? Just curious on the best ways to grind some heroes. Especially for the challenges on heroes you dont play through the campaign who are up against level 40 heroes from the start.
You get some XP (5 I think?) for each kill, and a bonus 100 for clearing a mission for the first time. This first clear bonus is not communicated in game, probably something we should change. The intent is to incentivize continuing through the story rather than grinding one particular mission.
