UPDATE: Great news! Turns out it was this firewall program I had installed a while ago. It was turned off, but needed to be completely uninstalled. Now iTunes and my iPod Touch work perfectly with my computer. Woohoo!!! So I'm keeping it! =) Also, I just put some movies on it and now I think 64GB was a good idea afterall. LOL! Thanks again to all of you for your interest in my trouble. This is a great site, with great members, and I look forward to enjoying my iPod Touch along with all of you over the coming months and years. ---------------------------- OLD POST BELOW --------------------------- Some fo you may remember me. I joined up a few days ago and made a hello thread here. I'm the "old" guy who loves games, and bought an iPod Touch 3G 64GB. Well, it arrived Monday, and sadly Ive had a terrible time with it. Basically: 1) It simply will not be recogized by iTunes. EVER, no matter what. My computer is Windows 7 based, and relatively new. I spent literally hours and hours with Apple tech support on the phone. Then I even went to the Apple store for an appointment with a tech. He basically told me that Windows 7 support is incomplete, and that all I could do was wait and hope it's fixed, or return my Touch. 2) It works perfectly with an old XP based netbook I have. But it's not at all convenient to use it with the netbook, because I would want my music and apps etc. sync'ing from my main notebook that I actually use. 3) After having the 64GB, honestly I don't think I need 64GB afterall. Taking all that into account, I think I will return this unit for a refund. I feel bad about it. If it worked with my notebook, I would keep it, but it doesn't and I already lost 2 days of my life tinkering with this. Maybe next year after the new models come out and Windows 7 support is better. Sadly the apps I bought (a few games and a dictionary) will just have to wait until I get a new one someday. So I guess this is a premature goodbye, or at least, a farewell until I come back again someday. I will say it's a really beautiful device, and the apps I used were really awesome. So I think I will be back, eventually.
Sorry to hear about that. This seems to be a pretty common problem. For some reason, iPod Touches are often incompatible with Windows 7 for some bizarre reason. I was listening to some guy on the Pocket Gamer podcast who also had this problem and ended up taking his iPod Touch back. I think the iPhone is alright, at least you have an excuse to get one
No, I assure you it's the real thing. Beautiful specimen too - no dead pixels at all, very bright screen. I do like it.
Did you try syncing it with Winamp or using vista compatibility mode? The iPod sync issues with Windows 7 are known but there should be a way around it. I haven't used Windows in two years but those are two quick things to try I found looking up the issue on Google. Apparently a cheap USB PCI card with the right chipset also clears up any sync issues with 7. If you still can't get it working the Zune HD isn't a bad product though it does lack the incredible app store.
It's not Windows. Win 7 is actually really, really nice. Everything else has worked perfectly. It's iTunes 64bit, and/or its related drivers. They're just not ready for prime time yet. A real shame b/c no doubt many people bought new computers and ipods over the last few weeks, only to find in some cases that their new computers and ipods won't work well together. Maybe next year. I'd really like a camera on this thing anyway. P.S. I just played some GeoDefense. Love this game. Super Monkey Ball 2 is also really, really good. Loved it on the Cube, and I happen to think the tilt controls are perfect for this game. I will miss these games. But like I said, I will be back after I hear iTunes is fully working with Win7-64bit and maybe after the new camera models come out (next Fall maybe?).
Thanks, but I spent many hours tinkering already and I'm done. As for Zune, not interested. The app store is what drew me to the Touch. Like the old saying goes, it's not the hardware that matters, it's the software. I have my tiny Sansa clip for mp3's and it has an FM radio, so I'm fine for now.
Like I said, I literally spent many hours with Apple support yesterday, both on the phone and in person at the Apple store. Not to mention hours by myself the previous night. Nothing worked. The Apple tech basically threw his hands up at the end and admitted that iTunes is not really fully supported for Win7 yet. And I need my computer way more than the iPod, so I'm afraid the computer stays and the iPod goes until I hear Apple has finished the Win7 support in iTunes.
Wow man..that really sucks, sorry to hear that Hopefully the issue will be resolved soon.. ..And I can't help but say this..thank God I have a Mac!
Yeah, because it's microsoft's fault that apple's application won't work several months after the windows 7 release...
That wasn't what I'm saying at all actually..I'm saying that Windows sucks. Yep I said it, let the flame war begin.
Only Mac users feel the need to attack other operating systems, anyone would think they have something to prove
OMG, Chocolate has left TA, but what will we eat if we want a nice sweet, nothing beats chocolate , ok, pie beats chocolate but chocolate still good .
