Gameloft had some really great ones which I played on my java phone years ago..if only they will port them to the ios platform.

I wonder how many people know that gameloft has a larger archive of java/symbian games than ios/android games. Actually I haven't really enjoyed the single player component of any Gameloft games on the ios =/

    Retro...

I don't know if these fit your definition of retro, but have you tried Dark Incursion and Avenger?

That's the best of them. Avenger is longer and less polished. Dark incursion is great. My only complaint being that it's too short. Not the worst complaint I guess. Grokion is another you might want to check out.

Its not retro, but Aquaria is a fantastic Metroidvania style game. I think it cost $4.99 but I got about 15 hours of gameplay in it. Very well worth the money, if you ask me!

Yeah, I remember that one coming to DSiWare a while back. It was much appreciated, since Konami couldn't be bothered to bring anything to the table.
