With the following: The animations and art/audio are very well done and smooth. Character jumping feels right, albeing short, however the projectile collosion detection still isn't quite right. I think the detection range needs to be increased, this is very noticeable when attacking an enemy that is moving up/down an angled surface. Visually the projecticle seems to hit the sprite/model, however nothing registers until the projecticle is apparently hitting right in the middle of the sprite/model. Explosion animations seem to have been toned down a little, a good thing. however the mobs tend to simply diappear when killed, more often then not its hard to tell whether there's a significance to the animation you're seeing on the screen (i.e. the mob is dying, or simply moving) Still needs a little more polish. The unity engine is used very nicely, hopefully the above issues are not a limitation of the engine. Just posted positive review on appstore under the name BGapps10. There is more to this game and with improvement updates I think it will be a great game. The graphics and sounds are nicely done. The story line is simple for both casual and serious gamers. However, there are a few areas I'd like to highlight: - The control/ movement doesn't feel right/ smooth. Please single this out for the most important update. For example, jumping movement is limited and deceleration by gravity is missing. Moving fast or slow should also be another option. As of now, it feels kind of slow and it affects the game pace. - Control pad for shooting and jumping on the right does not feel right either. Movements should be on one side. Shooting and grenade can be on another side. Swipe control for grenade release is troublesome in my opinion. - More weapons with trade-off/ buy options. Shooting sound can be improved to add realism to the game. - Blood splatter on the screen can be removed as this is confusing. It is not a first-person shooter game and this game is more about machines fight unlike other "army" type shooting games. Perhaps, instead of blood, show dented metal at the corner or bullet holes. - Additional helping characters/ functions earned a long the game will add more variety instead of just the main character. For example, tiny crawlers that attack enemies, shield function, power ups, etc. - How about showing the real hero in the start up? Perhaps character selection option will add to the storyline. - 3D zoom in when character is killed can be polished. On my device it just got so zoom in on the enemy. (I hope you know what I mean). I will continue playing the game. It gets tougher now but I really hope you would do something with the control. Thanks for game and please include me in your GC contest. PS: Followed on twitter. mehware Well-Known Member Nov 22, 2008 539 1 0 http://www.mehware.com #7 mehware, Feb 18, 2010 @ BGapps, Thanks, Lots of good stuff there! I like the idea of getting the blood out of there, its not a First Person Shooter like you mentioned. How would you like the controls/controller setup (movement, shoot, jump)? We are considering adding health packs back in, in a future update due to some criticism about the game being difficult. The enemy would sparingly drop these health packs and it would heal you three bars. We are making a laundry list of features/tweaks for an update! Matt - mehware BGapps Well-Known Member Dec 26, 2009 139 0 0 #8 BGapps, Feb 18, 2010 As Lockdown requires angled shot, perhaps you could try "tap-anywhere-to-shoot" control for shooting. This will free the right panel for other features. As for direction, I think a D-pad style control is preferred. Btw, one more suggestion: Can you increase the contrast between the foreground (where the action is happening) and the background? This will improve the visual. Again, just my opinion. mehware Well-Known Member Nov 22, 2008 539 1 0 http://www.mehware.com #9 mehware, Feb 18, 2010 Tap anywhere to shoot is a good idea, not sure how jumping would come into play tho, unless we used an up arrow in the movement control... hmm something to think about. So the controller on the left would be all movement/jump. The rightish/bottom would be tap anywhere to shoot. We could then get rid of the button graphic. We still want the middle real estate to be swipe to throw the grenade from the droid. I also like the idea of make more "contrast" between the foreground and the background. I imagine making all the background/level kind of desaturated/greyscale with a bit of color so the foreground really pops. It could look really cool! - Matt mehware araczynski Well-Known Member Oct 5, 2009 1,467 0 36 programmer omaha, ne #10 araczynski, Feb 18, 2010 health packs should be brought back in. i would also not get rid of the blood, if you're referring to the one that covers your screen? i would do two things to the effect though, make it disappear a little sooner, and also make it smaller, so that it only covers say a quarter of the area it currently covers, and then perhaps don't always put it in the middle. and give it a very small chance to have another one splash on the screen the the first disappears or 'drips' off the screen. i was surprised to see that blood splat on the screen, but it did put a smile on my face and i think added to the game. i wouldn't get rid of it, at most tweak it and perhaps make it an optional enable/disable in the options of the game. that way both camps can be happy. ridgecity Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2010 54 0 0 #11 ridgecity, Feb 18, 2010 My review is posted on itunes. The only thing I would change is the sound when you get hurt, something more loud to make aware of damage and some sounds for the enemies, maybe heavy metallic screechy sounds or heavy steps. Everything else is great! mehware Well-Known Member Nov 22, 2008 539 1 0 http://www.mehware.com #12 mehware, Feb 18, 2010 Thanks, One thing we forgot to throw in the description is to listen to the music/sfx with your earbuds on while your playing Lockdown.
