i want to ditch my macbook air and live with my iDevice alone. I use the air ONLY for syncing videos. I have a 1TB seagate wireless plus so i can play my media on my device even without syncing. I can also copy video using the VLC app. I have iTunes match enabled so all my music are in the cloud, pics are in photo stream and other pics are saved on the seagate wireless plus. I use keynote and pages for my documents (I'm used to making my presentations and documents on my 5S as I've been doing it for nearly a year), and the i-flashdrive just in case i need to transfer some documents on the go. I'm a surgeon so i really don't make any high end media stuff and hence I don't use photoshop, and other media making apps. I'm planning to sell the Mac and use the money to buy a 128gb iPhone. I also game on my iPhone and been doing that since 2009, no more consoles for me. For downloading media, onto the wireless HDD, i can use my wife's Mac mini. So with my setup, is it possible to ditch the mac/PC and live with the iPhone alone?

Sounds like you should be fine. Maybe try using only your iPhone for a month and if you find it's essential to use the mac in that time then hang on to it, if not it's most likely safe to sell and upgrade your phone

Thanks man. Additional info, I've been using my iPhone only for like around 6months now and only use the mac for syncing. Most of the time the Mac is left at home lol but thanks again. I'll leave the mac at home for a month and never touch it

Go cloudy, Go! It's also potentially one less thing you'd own.

    Agree about 'the cloud'

I went back to Dropbox, you now get 1 TB for a good price every year rather than the measley 100 gig you used to get

I've now put all my comics/music/videos/books and other stuff on it. I find the connection so quick, i rarely touch my PC now (ironically just to copy the rest of my files to dropbox) as i can access practically everything i want from Dropbox to my iphone or ipad. Love it.

I have unlimited internet on my phone as well so can download any file whenever i want (ideally i want a net connection though rather than 3G)

Ayt thanks! I'm currently on iCloud drive with a 200gb/month plan and i'm currently contemplating between a 1tb iCloud drive vs dropbox.

I was with pogoplug, that was only £33 a year (for unlimited space !) and you could pay monthly via itunes credit - handy as i had lots of itunes vouchers for my birthday

All was going well till i reached about 300 meg, then it was soooo slow. Trying to download a .cbr file to work in ComicZeal took over 30 minutes. Dropbox was so quick

But Dropbox used to be so expensive for 100 gig, thanks to competition their new pricing policy as i said for 1 TB is great. I've gone with them, dropped all my free 25-50 gig accounts with Box/Mega and others and just have Dropbox now.

Very quick, all my files open (well the ones i want), videos can be opened/saved to AVPlayer, comics to ComicZeal and so on. The new Dropbox is great for 1TB

No worries, good luck with that. Funny i know but i get a massive kick out of knowing wherever i am in the country i can access all the files i want from my phone.

It was sad when LogMeIn went to a crazy high price (after being free) but also check out Teamviewer which is free. I use 'Awake' (i put in my mac address) so i can remotely turn on my PC and then use Teamviewer to control my desktop

Again its been great if i've been away and need to access files on my PC (which arent on dropbox yet)

Survived without touching my mac, even the mac at home. I didn't even notice that those pc's existed lol. Just sold my MacBook Air yesterday, will be getting the 6 tomorrow. Re the cloud, same here it's not that fast but I think it's decent enough.

I had a feeling you'd end up selling. You've made the right choice if you don't use the mac. Better having the cash rather than a PC doing nothing. Hope you enjoy your new phone too.

Thanks man, I'm really hoping I'd enjoy the 6 once I get it, hopefully, by tomorrow afternoon. Was supposed to get one a while a go but the stock ran out. They reserved one for me and it'll be in store tomorrow hopefully.

You should be fine, if you only use the laptop for what you mentioned above. Do you ever plan to do any designing / programming / powerpoints or any such things? If so, I'm sure it would be easier to do these on a macbook. Also, these things can take quite some space installing the proper programs and resources, something your wife might not appreciate. Just something to consider. Best of luck to you dude.

I'm a surgeon so i really don't know anything about design and programming hehe. I'm just a gamer at heart. I regularly make PowerPoint presentations though for my cases and I've been using Keynote since last year on the 5s previously and now on the 6

Keynote and Pages on the iP6 are quite good to handle. I started to prefer that over the Office programs.

Yep, it's way easier to use. Plus, there's "magic move", gotta love that effect!

Seems a little risky to me just based on Apples occasional update screw ups where you might need iTunes to restore a backup although I suppose you could always just take the device into an Apple store or something and let them sort it out.
