Nobody knows. But you can try it out today: http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2010/09/15239/ Edit: But there's not much you can do with it at this point since there hasn't been any app-updates yet. You're only able to add friends right now. Edit 2: This is all it is right now:
Truckers Delight is getting GameCentre. Proof is below from a conversation on Twitter. https://twitter.com/Mobigame/status/22878531207 https://twitter.com/neilwarner/status/22878782773 https://twitter.com/Mobigame/status/22879429163 Great Stuff.
what would be the point of a gamerscore anyway? There is no real point to an OpenFeint Gamerscore. They are far too many casual and/or simplistic games out there; games that will essentially give their points away for free. It will take little to no effort, skill, or time to max out the available achievements for these super casual games, thus rendering meaningless a person's overall Gamerscore. This is exactly the case with OpenFeint, which is why I have never felt obligated to obtain achievements for it. The most achievement points I have are for Gameloft Live. In terms of Gamerscore, Gameloft Live is the only thing that can come anywhere reasonably close to replicating Xbox Live. Even then, it's obviously not as good. Game Center Gamerscores won't mean anything. Someone will just amass a bunch of worthless points by playing Doodle games and stick figure games and time management games and line drawing games or games that only have one level or games that have only an endless mode, or games that are nothing more than Beta releases and can be "beaten" in ten minutes. And then there are "games" like Facefighter, or Pocket God. Or some virtual girlfriend game. The whole thing really is pointless. The only potential bonus to Game Center comes from all of the possibilities that it creates for multiplayer.
So, Gamerscore points/achievements should only be applied to Grand Theft Auto ChinaTown Wars? In the end, you're not going to win money so why be concerned if casual games have their gamescore points to be had? Besides, not all casual games are a walk in the park.
Great, thanks! I’ll add it now. I haven’t actually found any mention anywhere that Apple will have a “Gamerscore” equivalent. I’ve looked up and down the beta, scanned through all/most of the Game Center pictures and read most articles related to Game Center, and I haven’t seen it at all. So, maybe Apple already though about the fact free will boost one’s “Gamerscore”. But that makes me wonder, why have points in the first place? Why not do something closer to PSN’s trophies?
Why does the number of points even matter? It's fun to get them and they're satisfying, what do you care if some game gives easy points? Do you really judge someone's worth by how many points they have and/or how they got them? This is gamut elitism at its most ridiculous. I mean come on who CARES? Gamerscore, trophies, whatever as log as I can track my progress I don't care what form it's in or wether or not you can get points from free/casual games. I mean come on you can't be serious.
To me it matters for the purpose of tracking my own gamerscore. I don't care so much for other gamers gamerscore unless it's my real life friend's gamerscores. I agree with you point though, that the gamerscore, if it was available on the iPhone, would be quite pointless with the small games potentially "giving away" achievements.
I am working on adding Game Center to iFishing. If that goes well it will also be in iFishing Saltwater, and Puppet Jump.
Thanks! Ill add iFishing for the time being. If you add GC to the other games, please tell us and Ill add it to the list.
Just to make sure, the pac-man listed as game center compatible is just the regular pac-man, right? Not the remix, or championship one right?
I was hoping someone could answer a question I about gamecenter. After reading that Real Racing was going to be one of the launch title for Game Center, does this mean that Real Racing will finally get online multiplayer as Steve Jobs mentions how you will be able to invite people to your games. Is this merely wishful thinking in that Real Racing will most likely only support Achievements ? Also on a separate note, Gameloft was pretty good updating their games for retina support, do you guys think they will update to support game center or too much competition for Gameloft live?
Not sure about GameLoft, but Im 99% sure Real Racing will have online racing. I base this off of the Apple Game Center page (found here), in the third picture, it shows to iPhones racing each other in Real Racing. This could be bluetooth though. But, in the last picture (included below), it shows match making on one iPhone while the other iPhone is racing. This definitely tells me that Real Racing must have some sort of online play!
In all fairness, I dont think Game Center would run very well on the original iPhone. My brother still has an iPhone 3G (waiting for iPhone 4 stock), and iOS 4.0 itself runs pretty poorly even without multitasking, custom wallpapers and Game Center. To my knowledge, iOS 4.0 isnt even compatible with the original iPhone (though spec wise, it should run about as well as it does on the iPhone 3G). Just my 2 cents.
Game Center should make it much easier/cheaper/more convenient for Devs to enable online play and that's definitely the part I'm looking forward to. Although I have little interest in wi-fi only online play. If it's not 3g cellular network enabled, my feelings for it will be lukewarm at best.
My thoughts exactly. Id love playing a quick game online against opponents online if I have a 5-10 minute break during the day! Although iPod touch users would be indifferent to 3G play.
From Firemint's own blog: I don't know if that means this is just leaderboards/achievements or that multiplayer is gamecenter only?
