Anyone try Morrison murders? Morrison Murders by Lucky Finds https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/morrison-murders/id1269097878?mt=8
Here's a review for the PC version. https://adventuregamers.com/articles/view/29565 It is generally a positive review, with the main criticism being that it's very short.
I was sorting out my purchases on my itunes account. Oh for the love of....what a tedious thing it is. I must have fat fingers because when i try to hide a random purchase, it doesnt respond then i tap again and instead it reinstalls, so now i have pages of random old apps and games...anyhoo...im ranting. During this action, i realised that some games i loved are missing. Remember Teslas Electric Mist? I suddenly thought id go back over games and reinstall and replay as theres a distinct lack of good ones out right now. Alas, its not on the store and its not in my list. Anyone know or remember this game. It was rather decent so i dont know why it would disappear. And yes. My punctuation and caps is all over the place. Sorry.
Ain't that the truth. Has there been anything interesting since The Witness, Gorogoa and The Room: Old Sins? All of which were admittedly fantastic, but it's sure been dry since then.
Haven‘t posted for a while as I hadn’t played any (Point’n’Click) adventures lately even though I‘m starving for good ones. Discovered an older game (that‘s how starved I am, main point is discovering a decent adventure I hadn‘t played so far): Perils of Man from the creators of A Vampyre Story and Pirates of Vooju Island. Story starts pretty interesting, puzzles nothing too hard so far. Game is apparently a bit short (Howlongtobeat.com lists median playthrough time as 3 1/2 hours) - I was through (the free) first episode in about 45 minutes - 1 hour. Wasn’t bad and I bought the rest (episodes 2 and 3 seperately cost $3.99 each or both for $5.99). Looking forward to the other chapters. I’d encourage everyone to try episode 1 at least, it’s free after all.
Speaking of free first episodes, Escape Logan Estate was rather disppointing. Very easy puzzles and the story didn‘t deliver as well. If the puzzles are weak I‘d still be relatively fine with a captivating story but the game fell short on both sides. Looking at the change in total ratings, Apple having chosen it as Game of the Day still has given it some attention but there are so many adventures who‘d have deserved this title/attention more. Considering the at best mediocre quality of Escape Logan Estate I have to wonder if Apple has any criteria for awarding Game of the Day or if they just use some sort of random number generator ...
The Toucharcade App doesn’t work on iOS 11 anymore due to missing 64bit support. It’s not their fault as Apple doesn’t let them update it (they apparently decided one day that it’s against their Terms of Service by promoting other games ... Pretty ridiculous reason if you ask me, TA is a game reviewing site after all). The only way now to access TA’s site and its forums on iOS 11 is with a web browser.
This totally sucks but I know the problem. Even if you’ve purchased a game that’s been removed from the App Store it’s gone unless you have it installed or on an iTunes backup. Same happened to me when Disney removed the Monkey Island remakes and with some older Telltale releases - Just disappeared which really sucks considering I paid for them. I think this issue has been solved with the introduction of App Store iCloud saving now but as that wasn’t available back in the day it’s just tough luck with some games ... The price of digitalization. And yes, unfortunately there isn’t happening much on the iOS adventure front atm.
I played that one, and enjoyed it for the most part until a bug near the end of the game. The game crashed during a cut scene, and when I restarted the game, it was saved, but an object necessary to complete the game was missing. That soured my opinion of the game in general, since I had put a considerable amount of time into it up to that point. For all I know, it could have been due to my device (original iPad Air), and due to a memory issue. I also notice a number of reviews on the AppStore where people are having issues even starting the game.
Im about midway through episode 2 by now. No bugs, no crashes so far. I think they fixed most of those with updates 2.0.4 and 2.0.6. At least looks that way as in my App Store only some older reviews complain about crashes, the newer ones dont. Id report if I should run into anything gamebreaking ofc but so far the game works like a charm.
What was frustrating was that there was no way to save the game in multiple slots, with only one save being possible. If I had had the chance to go back to just before the crash, and replay the scene, hoping that the object would be there on a second attempt, it would have been more tolerable. I'm sure that the game plays better on later devices, especially for those with more memory. The cut scenes were memory intensive, and I experienced other crashes in earlier scenes (none game breaking), always during a cut scene.
Sooo, the Perils of Man worked well until the end (no crashes, bugs or something like that) - Nonetheless not the biggest fan. It started charming with the potential for an interesting story but turns out everything just led to some standard time traveling fanfare with a lot of slow walking around. And I wasn’t very happy with the puzzles either. For one at the start of chapter 2 I even looked into a walkthrough after being stumped for an hour but turns out I just overlooked a spot. Also, without going into spoiler territory I still don’t see the logic behind the solution, but well, maybe I overread or overlooked something. Most other puzzles were in the range between very easy and pretty far fetched. There were also other mildly annoying things, like the protagonist being able to move freely in a room with a guy who was always trying to confine her standing right next to her. The mechanics aren’t anything to write home about either. As mentioned, slow walking (in moments like these you really appreciate point and click adventures which give you the option of quick exit or at least running by double tap), slow and often unnresponsive inventory or the character not reacting to highlighted stuff while using the game’s special goggle view. But well, at least there was a hotspot function so at least pixelhunting wasn’t an issue. As I mentioned, I’m starving for good (point and click) adventures atm - and am apparently not the only one - but this game didn’t really deliver on that front for me. Would give it 3.5 stars.
It's good to see a few more people again! Anyway, I definitely remember this game. I'm pretty sure it ended with the tease of a sequel, and I'm also quite sure the developers made another game that had something to do with Greek gods. The reason I'm pretty sure is because I believe I beta tested for both of them and most likely reviewed them both as well. Sadly, not only do the games seem to have vanished from the App Store, but the developer's web site is no longer in existence. Like so many indie developers, I'm guessing they couldn't make a go of it and folded up shop. And, while it ONLY cost $99 per year for a seller account on the App Store (I'm pretty sure that's still the going rate), it makes sense to not want to pay that if you aren't making any money for your games. Of course this is all pure speculation, but probably fairly accurate. If you ask me, Apple should only charge you the difference between the $99 fee and what they've already skimmed off of your app cost if you don't make them $99 in a year. Since the App Store wouldn't even exist without all the 3rd party developers, it seems sad that they take so much off the top and charge the developer a yearly fee as well... sorry, a bit of topic there...
Yeah, that’s really cool Hoping we’ll get blessed with some great new adventure releases now too! Would love to know where Glitch is at with Veritas and whatever has happened to Joe/Fire Maple and his release announcement last year. He can’t still be held up by Zelda BOTW, can he?
I agree, a single save slot with autosave is a terrible design choice, especially if a game has one (or more) major bug(s). I remember this experience from Bertram Fiddle 2. The game is really great, huge improvement from the first part with a funny story and challenging puzzles. But it was so buggy back at release that I had to restart three times (which at least is a testament to how much I liked it) because some bug screwed up the game and thanks to autosave and only one save spot there was no chance to work around it.
New release: Distraint: Deluxe Edition Called a Horror adventure, normal edition was released a year ago, PC version is from 2015 Steam reviews seem very positive (9/10 out of ~3000 reviews), metacritic mainly positive. Read a review on Gamingtrend that also recommends the game, only criticism was that he hoped the game wouldve been longer. If you also play on PC the steam version only costs 99c instead of 3.99 for the new iOS edition. The original iOS version Distraint: Pocket Pixel Horror (main difference seems that this one is in black and white) also only costs 99c btw.
Speaking of horror adventures, reminds me of an iOS point and click game I played a while ago and remember enjoying very much: Tormentum - Mystery Adventure There‘s also a Lite version for anyone wanting to try for free.
I actually started this one (and if it's short than shame on me for not finishing it). Not sure if the new release offers anything more than colorization, but if not I'd recommend sticking with the original version. It still looks pretty sweet in my opinion, and if the color version doesn't offer any game play enhancements I don't think it's worth the extra $3. I played through the lite version of this one and really enjoyed it. I need to finally break down and buy the full version one of these days. If anyone out there is like me and still stuck with an iPad 2 (I know, it's doubtful) both of these games run well on that device.
