If you dig around enough (ie: search) on this thread, you'll probably find some comments from me on this one. I thought it was a lot of fun. The visuals were great, lots of cool details, and for the most part the puzzles were decent if I remember correctly (though I believe there were a few that were a bit frustrating). Certainly worth 99 cents, though.

Sorry, thread is so huge, it‘s hard to prevent double mentions sometimes. The price drop is news though ;)

And on the plus side, you certainly sold me, buying now :D

Btw, just realised this when I bought the game: Very rare for Europe, the iPad version of the Tiny Bang also only costs €0.99 (usually $0.99 games translate to €1.29 in (western) Europe even though the Dollar is and has been lower than the Euro for many years) and the iPhone version even got lowered to only €0.49. Never seen a game for 50 cents (Dollar or Euro) before ... And doesn‘t even have any iAPs

After playing for 1/2 an hour gotta concur with your assessment - The game’s certainly charming, interesting and has some nicely executed ideas. Most of it is comprised of collecting things with a few puzzles thrown in every now and then. But it’s easy to overlook something and/or not being sure what to do next. For example you can miss one piece of a certain thing and basically just tap around the screens to find it. So, sometimes frustrating is definitely an accurate description.

Certainly worth 99 cents (or 49 eurocents for the iPhone version in Europe) also is accurate though. When you’ve got a good patience for puzzlers and don’t get easily frustrated if you won’t constantly progress the game’s certainly worth this superlow priceentry atm. If you prefer smooth progression, easy going puzzles or a good story better look elsewhere.

Wasn't trying to pick on you for double posting. Mainly just pointing out that I actually played something that was mentioned

Definitely my biggest criticism of the game. But again for a mere 99 cents, something I would be able to live with. This is one of the few games I've played that really left an impact on me in terms of the overall aesthetics of the world, and that's pretty important when it comes to an adventure game.

Haha, lol, should have picked up on that ;) :)

Played a bit longer by now and there‘s also a hint system if you‘re totally stumped (gotta collect enough insects for it, it‘s cleverly implemented) - The story is still negligible but other than that, especially for that tiny price, The Tiny Bang Story is a must-have for any fan of Puzzle-Adventures!

Very good mobile adventure classic Rescue the Enchanter is back at $3.99 (weirdly got raised to $6.99 2 weeks ago, then down to 4.99 and now at 3.99 again, guess the devs were fooling around with the price a bit out of whatever reason).

There‘s also a free Demo version: Start Rescue the Enchanter

I picked this one yesterday, $5.49 in Canada, plus tax.

I noticed that the developer raised the prices of all their apps a few weeks back, then has since lowered them back to their original prices. They might have been testing the market to see what it would bear.

One thing odd is that there are IAP in the game. If one wants hints, or the fast travel option, both are at extra cost. It's a rather odd move in my opinion for a premium priced game, since most other developers include hints for free.

To me that's not right, or at least for the "fast travel" option. Hints are debatable, since that practice has been around since the stone age of computing, but one would think that given the dearth of information on the internet even that practice would have faded away by now. I suppose one could argue that they are saving you the trouble of "scouring" (ie: spending 5 seconds on Google) the internet to find a walkthrough for the game you're playing ;)

Yeah thought about the same, devs probably tested how each price level would affect sales.

And looks as if Canada is in a similar boat than Europe regarding App Store prices. According to the current exchange rate CAD 5.49 translate to $4.27 (plus tax), over here the game is €4.49 which translates to $5.55. US App Store prices are nearly always cheaper - Always wondered if this is based on countries living standards (like the GDP - PC game Rise of the Tomb Raider for example was about 6 - 9 Euros in the Ukrainian or Indian Windows Store while it was 60+ in Western European countries) or just because taxes are lower in the US ...

Anyway, gotta agree with PoL, an Extra iAP for fast travel is a joke, as low as it may be. Good you mentioned that, had no idea about it as I played the game about a year ago and they added this fast travel option + iAP in an update 6 months ago. Fast travel is a great idea for this game after all, map is pretty big. It’s a great adventure but this is a pretty greedy move if you ask me. Tarnishes an otherwise cool game.

Also disapprove of the hint iAP - Hints should rather be rechargable but as PoL pointed out, it’s a debatable tactic and Syntaxity definitely aren‘t the first ones to use it. Still a bit sneaky as the game‘s world is pretty huge and it‘s easy to overlook something - Imo having to watch an ad for a hint would be a fairer approach: After all, before paying for a hint (which - like a walkthrough - usually points you to the location or even what you’ve overlooked there) 99.9% of players would probably „waste“ those 5 seconds googling for a walkthrough anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, unless there's a logical reason within the game to force you back through a path (ie: something you did in location C caused a tree to fall in location B and now you have to find another way to get back to location A), fast travel should be standard in any adventure game that's more than a few rooms in scope. If I play a game that's three hours long where 90% of my time was spent traipsing back and forth, I really played a 20 minute game that annoyed me for 2 1/2 hours. I want to spend my time talking to people or engaging with puzzles, not aimlessly walking back and forth. It's sad how many games use this tactic simply as a means to make their game appear longer. On what is mostly a tangent, this is why I'm not a fan of sandbox or open world style games.

Are there any new games out I’ve missed. Haven’t been here in a bit and thought I’d start popping in again. I’ve recently played The Room old sins, four last things ( ongoing ) and Legacy 2 which was rather good. I’m about to start playing The Mystery of the Hudson Case by Magic Frame Studios S.L Time for another glitch or maple? I wish.

Unfortunately, that link doesn't work, just giving me an error saying that it can't be found. I had never seen that particular game before, and was interested in checking it out.

Getting back to the comments about US vs Canadian pricing made by Gambler, and pricing in all other countries for that matter. The adjustments to Canadian pricing were made a couple of years ago, when Apple was all too quick to raise prices when the Canadian dollar fell significantly against the US dollar. Now that the Cdn dollar has recovered somewhat, it appears that Apple is reluctant to adjust prices the other way. This seems to be the case in the European Union as well.

Here you go David :) : The Mystery of the Hudson Case ... Looks intriguing, thanks podbud

And yes it certainly looks that way - Like with petrol/gas the companies always seem eager to raise prices but not so much the other way around. Years ago the Dollar was about the same level as the Euro - Now 1 Euro is about 1.25 bucks and nonetheless in the App Store even the Euro prices are still higher than the Dollar prices. $0.99 translates to €1.29 (= $1.59), $3.99 to €4.49 (= $5.55) etc. If one buys Final Fantasy XV per episodes here, you nearly pay 20 US Dollars more than the US price. And if I’m not mistaken the Brits are even robbed a bit more than the eurozone.

Glitch Games last post was from some time ago posting screen shots from their new game Veritas. On their Website they give a vague ETA with 2018.

And hard to say what’s going on with Firemaple. Joe posted in September last year that his new game is in the works but that he blames the new Zelda game for not having progressed with it as much as he had liked so far. Alas never replied about further progress since then and gone pretty quiet: Forum link

And no idea if you missed any of these games but gonna give it a shot ;) :

If you also like classical point and click adventures (a bit more story focused, item combination etc) I could recommend:
- The Book Of Unwritten Tales 2
- Inner World 2
- Lost Horizon (2017)
- Technobabylon

Adventures more in the vein of Glitch/Firemaple (more mobile focused, no item combination, some environmental puzzles etc) I could recommend:
- The Long Journey - Adventure
- Forgotten Hills - Free games with ads (removable per iAP) just received a fourth part a few weeks ago
- Rescue the Enchanter

The latter one has, as I learned thanks to David a few days ago, introduced a pretty nasty iAP though (paying extra for fast travel)

If you know/like Love You to Bits this is also a great little game: Bring You Home

Gorogoa is a cool Puzzle Adventure with pretty innovative mechanics

Edit/P. S.: How do you like Four Last Things?

So have you tried the game yet? I notice the developer has a few adventure games and I even own a couple of them, but I don't think I've played any of them yet. Also, the link isn't working. Here's one that hopefully will: The Mystery of the Hudson Case. podbud, if you look at the URL in your link, you actually have the name of the game before the https, which is why it isn't doing anything.

[Edit] Sorry, didn't realize the link thing had been straightened out. Was looking at an old version of the thread

Know you didn’t ask me but I just remembered I’d been playing The Mystery Of the Mayan Ruins quite a while ago. Was not too bad, at least as far as I remember. And it’s pretty cheap atm. Iirc it was rather on the easy side though. (And wasn’t too long, hope the fact that it’s 100 MB bigger than the two other mystery games doesn’t mean those are even shorter)
