Read a review that the sequel makes much better use of the updated ARKit (but that the game’s too short on the other hand). First one got quite a few awards, wonder if that was just because of the novelty factor back then or really due to the first game’s quality. In any way, I’ll certainly post impression if or when I check it out. Would just wish for some more activity here again. This is one of the hugest threads on TA, it’s often enough featured as one of the top discussion threads on the TA main page and PoL has kept it alive for 7 years by now. Also, Adventure games are a treasure. I know, I’m starting to sound like talking to a wall (and PoL ofc ) but come on thread ghost spirits of Christmas past, show yourselves again - Or ghosts of Christmas future for that matter - Everyone‘s encouraged to post about adventure games/impressions he played or discovered
Ok guess for the time being I gotta take over the reigns mainly for all iOS 9+/iPad 2+ adventure game releases etc (Btw also saw morissey was last online 4 months ago). In that vein: Midnight Calling - Anabel and Dark Parables - Queen Sands (Both Hidden object mystery adventures) from Big Fish dropped from $6.99 to $4.99. Free trial version for Midnight Calling: Link
Nice, had no idea this had been released on iOS - Price drop from $4.99 to $2.99: Demetrios - The BIG cynical adventure. Impressions: Played the game on PC and its a pretty good classic PointnClick adventure game, especially for a one man project. The game got between 70-85% from most gaming/adventure review sites (metacritic 72% critic, 7.6 user score) - Positives: 8 - 12 hours playing time, classic PnC with balanced puzzles, nice cartoon graphics, $2.99 is a steal - Negatives: Story and puzzles lose a bit of steam at the end, no audio speech (understandable for a one man project though), main character is a grumpy douche who may not be to everybodys liking. Personally I wasnt offended by the silly humor though. All in all I can recommend this game, its very impressive for a one man project. Plus for 3 bucks you cant really go wrong. For anyone interested in how the game came to be, heres an interesting read from its developer. Also think the release of Full Throttle Remastered hasnt been mentioned so far. The games rather short and imo one of the weaker Lucas Arts adventures. But even a not so strong title from the golden era of Lucas Arts adventure games is still one worth playing.
Cool, had no idea this already got a release on iOS. Amazing classical Point’n’Click (alas Part 1 apparently isn’t on iOS): Book Of Unwritten Tales 2 And one of the lesser known adventures from Numeric Pipeline (publishers of the Runaway series, Yesterday, etc): Hollywood Monsters Hollywood Monsters Lite/Demo version if you wanna try the beginning out for free. — Impressions: - BoUT2 is very good (same as part 1). Magical story, funny and whimsical characters, long playing time. Puzzles rarely gave me any pause though, so maybe not for adventure fans who prefer hardcore brain teasers. (Fyi, for non German native speakers, audio is only available in German with English/Spanish/French/German or Italian subtitles). Late Edit: Discovered today that this is probably not the case and that the game has English Audio (according to the App Store description AND its Steam page). I suppose because I live in a German speaking country they cut out English Audio because the game already has 2.9GB and plenty of dialogue and it by far would have exceeded the App Store size limit if they had included both Audio Localizations. My educated guess is for every other country despite Germany, Austria and German speaking parts of Switzerland the English Audio version is used) - Hollywood Monsters has the same user interface as the Runaway games or Yesterday so if you played either one of those you’ll feel right at home. Puzzles range from easy to harder with a few being a bit far fetched (in true Runaway fashion). Furthermore the game’s rather on the shorter side but still absolutely acceptable length for a PnC - The playing time’s comparable with Yesterday. All in all, I still liked Hollywood Monsters pretty much: Positively weird world and characters, very nice ending. All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend both games to fans of classical Point and Click adventures! Edit: @PoL, BoUT2 (and Demetrios) supposedly work on your device
I actually have Demetrios on my device - I suppose I should actually play it BoUT2, on the other hand, will not run on my iPad because it requires 1 GB of memory (an iPad 2 only has 512 MB, which is it's biggest problem).
Oh sorry, I was surprised that it supposedly runs cause of its rather advanced 3D graphics but the App Store site just says „Works with iOS 8.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch“. Apple/App Store should definitely make it more clear that this apparently doesn’t mean ALL iPhones, iPads and iPod Touchs ...
Price drops: - Adventures $1.99 -> $0.99: MechaNika $2.99 -> $1.99: Silent Streets - Mockingbird $6.99 -> $4.99: Vampire Legends: The Count of New Orleans (Full) Free Trial version: Vampire Legends: The Count of New Orleans HD - Hidden Object $6.99 -> $4.99: Living Legends: Bound by Wishes - A Hidden Object Mystery (Full) Free Trial version: Living Legends: Bound by Wishes - A Hidden Object Mystery
512 MB must be hell. Started with an iPad 3 - Back then regrettably because one week after I bought it Apple announced that they would change production cycles for iPads from March to November and 1 1/2 moths later the iPad 4 got released - Plus the 3 was heavy as a brick - you really appreciate thtat as soon as you get a newer one - and it was the last one w/o lightning. Lately a lot of games have Air 2 as minimum already. I suppose mostly because it’s the first with 2GB of RAM. Had the Air (also only 1GB) in between and gotta say the Pro is the first iPad with which I‘m completely happy. Not that the others were bad per se but performance is much smoother than with the 1GB devices. Apple is always a bit stingy with RAM but guess they gotta weigh that against battery life. Already wasn’t so happy with 1GB, couldn’t imagine a 512MB device :/ Hope Santa brings you a new iPad one of these X-mases
That's one thing I've always wished about the App Store, is that they would force some consistency on the requirements of a game. Just because it only requires a certain level of OS doesn't mean it will actually run on older devices, which is often misleading.
It‘s not exactly a masterpiece and apparently some ppl are offended by its humor (that‘s why the dev added options to tone the protagonist‘s comments down, must‘ve been a lot of work) - Apparently more ppl are offended by silly South Park like humor than I thought (and I’m no fan, don‘t really care about the show one way or the other)... But anyway, imo it‘s a very solid Point and Click adventure, especially impressive for a one man project ... Plus 3 bucks are a complete joke price, people pay twice as much for one drink in a bar and that certainly doesn’t last 8 - 12 hours
Haven't tried this yet, but I think it's an adventure game: Keep in Mind: Remastered. The artwork is certainly interesting.
Wow. I don't think a game needs to be 10 - 15 hours when it only cost 99 cents, but 10 minutes is a bit ridiculous.
At least all the game profits are donated to the charity Child‘s play. That‘s certainly a good thing, short length/full fledged adventure or not But the devs are a bit funny with saying the game is „best played in 1 sitting“ ... One must really be very busy to have to play a 10 minute game in several sittings
True I suppose, but at that point I think I'd get more value from the act of simply giving them a dollar than in getting something in return that didn't feel like it was of much value. To each their own, I guess. The real question is whether that 10 minutes is interesting or not!
Price drops: Adventure $2.99 -> $1.99 The Little Acre Hidden Object: $6.99 -> $2.99 (iPad version) Reveries: Soul Collector - A Magical Hidden Object Game HD $2.99 -> $0.99 (iPhone version) Reveries: Soul Collector - A Magical Hidden Object Game — Edit: The Little Acre looks cool. Found one review. Classic Point’n’Click, the reviewer liked it found it too short though. Maybe with the price drop it‘s a good time to give it a shot.
I don't know if this is going to end up being an adventure game or more of a visual novel but here's another one: Urban Legend : Shin Hayarigami
Pondered to post about this myself but a lot of people said the translation is so bad right now (especially for a detective/mystery whatever story where you have to be able to grasp characters motivations) that I thought itd be better to wait for an update. The devs promised to seriously improve the English translation at least.
I figured I'd just post them when I find them and let you guys sort out whether they are any good or not
