What if you're kind of on the fence with Wadjet Eye? I really liked Primordia, but so far the rest of their offerings haven't really done anything for me. Do you think Shardlight falls closer in line with Primordia than their other stuff?
Yes. In fact I'd say it's much closer to Primordia than their other games (regarding athmosphere, dialogue, puzzles, inventory). Also, unlike say the Blackwell series Wadjet Eye's only the publisher not the dev. I wasn't the biggest fan of Gemini Rue either, the Blackwell series is ok imo but of all their games I also like Primordia the most with Shardlight second now. One small difference is maybe that Puzzles are a bit easier in Shardlight which didn't bother me too much though. All in all both games don't have (m)any illogical puzzles if one pays attention.
Only two more days until Thimbleweed Park is going to release. Oh boy, can't wait Annoying I have a dentist appointment the same day but from all I've seen and read so far, this game's gonna be a great compensation
I don't think that it's being released today, and after reading Ron Gilbert's latest blog entry, it appears that it will be priced at $19.99, and that's for all platforms. There's no mention in his entry whether an iPhone or iPad release is planned, since that platform is not specifically mentioned in his latest entry. Only the Mac is mentioned. A release day will be very soon, just not today.
Looks like it is coming today. Not on iOS but other platforms. Can't wait to play it tonight after work.
If anyone has had the desire to play Desire, it is currently free. There were some comments about it some time ago on this thread, and if I remember right they were along the lines of the game being weird. But then it is free
The Frostrune https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-frostrune/id1067658337?l=nb&ls=1&mt=8 Really enjoyed this game. Developed by a company here in Norway.
Ron Gilbert was interviewed on a Kotaku podcast, and said he wanted to bring Thimbleweed Park to every platform possible. Absolutely no doubt that an iOS version is coming - but they obviously want to avoid that "mobile game" taint first. I wonder if there's less of a mobile taint if they release it on tablets first, and save the phone conversion till several months down the line (a la Grimrock).
Comeback of a classic Adventure game on iOS now free Hi, my buddies just brought back their game to the App Store now for free. It used to be a premium app and was removed from the store due to technical reasons but now its back. Its a good oldschool game with tremendous production values. https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1211901675
This is a great deal, given how much content this game has. Also, the game actually runs on an iPad 2 for those of you that might still have older hardware. Note that the iTunes description says it is only free for 14 days, however. You can also pick up the "sequel", which I actually believe is the 3rd game in the series, called Secret Files: Sam Peters. The game is also free right now, with no notice of how long that will remain in affect.
It was released on 30th, but I didn't get the date from the Thimbleweed website. Just googled it and iirc 30th turned out to be correct. I wasn't aware that they hadn't planned to release on more platforms simultaneously though (at least mobile & PC/Mac) - From a technical standpoint it just makes little sense to release on a console (Xbox One) so much sooner than on mobile devices (especially tablets) which are a perfect platform for point'n'click/tap (certainly much better than consoles). But like another poster mentioned mobile isn't exactly number one priority to most producers (and there definitely is a certain kind of "taint" towards games released for mobile and other platforms the same time, just look at the RPG Ember - The steam crowd didn't take it seriously at all mainly because the devs made it for both platforms from the beginning. For adventures - where neither graphics performance nor an extended control scheme are much of an issue - this stance makes little sense though. Long story short, would have much preferred to play the title on my iPad but couldn't bear another month-long wait thus ended up buying it over gog. It was a really amazing experience. Humor, graphics + gameplay threw me right into nostalgia mode and the puzzles mostly have a perfectly balanced difficulty (not too easy nor too hard, you get rewarded for paying attention and if you still get stuck with one character you can just switch to another one for the time being - It's genius). Comparing this to Broken Age -between Schafer and Gilbert - you can really see who the brainiac was behind the first Monkey Islands titles. Just a pity that there aren't a lot of similar titles on the horizon for the foreseeable future. (Luckily there's always German dev/publisher Daedalic though - For example, the Pillars of the Earth looks rather promising)
If you don't already have it, The Lost Fountain is currently free. Alice Trapped in Wonderland, made by the same developer, is also free. And, they just released a new game called The Ghost Town Adventure.
Awesome, thanks! The other two you mentioned in the post below aren't free (anymore?) though. Just for info, not that 99c per was a huge sacrifice.
If you're talking about House in the Dark and Hills Legend, they are both still showing up free for me
They're not free here in Canada, showing up as $1.39 each. I will be honest and say that I'm not a huge fan of games from this developer, and I have tried several. I just can't seem to get "into them", if you can understand what I mean. Everyone has their own tastes, though, and others may get a lot of enjoyment out of them.
