I kind of thought the same thing, but at least the first chapter is free, so even if it's short you're only out the download time!
Artifex Mundi just released the full version of Eventide 2: Eventide 2: Sorcerer's Mirror (Full) Also, I just started playing their game Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom, and so far I'm really enjoying it.
My pleasure. I just wish there were more I could post or that I could offer more thoughts on the ones I do post, but I just don't have the time to play many adventure games at the moment, and more and more of them don't run on my aging device. I do what I can, though
When I see something that promotes itself as having "idiotic humor" it always makes me nervous, but this is free, so have at it: Escape the Never Again: A Puzzle Room Escape Game!
I don't remember running across this one before, but it looks kind of interesting (came out last year): PataNoir
I also want to thank you for your constant suggestions. Especially now over US thanksgiving nothing new seems to be released and your tip with "Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom" saved me from an evening without a good game to play (Unthinkable! ) I'd love to contribute more myself but no idea where and how you always dig out all those great adventure games. The TA Hot games list certainly isn't of any help - 95% Puzzle, Strategy, Shooters, RPGs and Roguelikes to find there. The few Adventures are mainly big names (Grim Fandango et al) So thanks - Would have missed out on a lot of good games if it weren't for PointOfClick ... Or was it PointOfLight?
So I take it you liked Lost Grimoires then? Unfortunately I have not gotten back to it yet, but I really enjoyed what I've played so far. To be perfectly honest, it's kind of a pain mixed with a good amount of luck. Sometimes I get a press release for an upcoming or recently released game. Those are the easy ones, but as you mentioned also tend to be the "big name" ones that everyone knows is coming anyway. The other source is that I am constantly scouring the list on AppShopper.com, sorted by new releases and games, of course. The problem there is that you can't sub-fliter by anything, so I have to wade through pages of slots, jigsaw puzzles and assorted other over-saturated genres to get to the few good things that come out each day. And then even of those only a handful each month are adventure games. Toss aside the "room escape" games and you aren't left with much. PointOfClick, huh? Maybe a name change is in order...
Well, it was not too bad but nothing superspecial. Fun for an evening but if you're short on time (like you seem to be), you're not missing out on too much if you're not finishing it. It's basically like every G5 adventure but a little shorter. The only thing that stands out is this alchemy mechanic but basically that's also only combining items you collect adding with other items you collect - And doing an easy minigame for combining them. In other adventures you'd probably just call this basic mechanics. Also, it's very easy. You usually only have 2 or 3 items and 1 or 2 locations. So it basically plays itself. It was a nice little game for an evening but if you've only played the free version I'd just recommend buying it when you have something lika a G5 urge. But if you have a big enough back catalogue as it is, I wouldn't bother. Really impressive that you keep doing this. Don't know if I could get myself to be this patient all the time PointOfClick would certainly fit best. I suppose you'd even have earned LordOfPointOfClick by now If a real name change is in order I'd also be ok with PointOfInterest, PointOfView or PointyEndOfaStick
If it were just for the sake of finding new adventure games I probably wouldn't do it (no offense, adventure game community). However, I write an article for a mobile gaming website that is theoretically supposed to be a roundup of recent releases that I've played, so naturally I need to know what recent releases are out there Definitely lots to think about Not sure I fancy PointyEndOfStick, though!
So a while back I posted a link to Alice and The Reformatory for Witches. I know there was some concern that given it's small size it would probably take 5 minutes or might even be a joke. I finally got a chance to play the game between yesterday and today, and I assure you it is definitely worth the time to install and play. The story is pretty basic, but the puzzles are good, there's a decent help system if you need it (think AppUnwrapper walkthroughs but a bit less detailed), and the graphics aren't too shabby (kind of remind me when VGA took over the old Sierra Online games, but somewhat more advanced than that). And, as far as the length, there's actually about 1 1/2 hours of game play, which isn't bad at all for a free game. Plus, the company has 3 other adventure games once you get done with this one. Now I will warn you that on my iPad 2 it was a bit sluggish, so without some other input I don't know if that's my device or the game. Still, check it out for a nice non-HoG adventure game.
This isn't a bad little game, although I am running into the same problems as you, with sluggish play. I am surprised at the amount of content, considering its extremely small download size of 13 MB. However, I have run into a bug, since the game won't allow me to take the can of fish. I have done all necessary actions up to that point, at least according to the walkthrough, so I can only assume that it's a bug.
Odd, I only ran into one small bug, and that was with a graphic appearing where it shouldn't. I was able to complete the game without any issues. Spoiler I'm assuming you looked at the signs outside on the fence, talked to the witch and all that good stuff?
Yes, I did all those things, and in fact, this was the first time that I felt I needed to use the walktrough, since I was unable to progress, and the game wouldn't allow me to take that item that I knew was needed to progress further. Since I assume that I'm close to the end of the game at this point, I don't know if it's worthwhile to restart from the beginning, with the hope that the issue won't happen again on a second playthrough. Amended, I figured out what I had forgotten to do in one area, and the problem is resolved.
