Based on that criteria I don't think I've ever played an adventure game that applies. To have that kind of flexibility in a game of any decent length would probably require years of writing. Now it's been eons since I've played it, but I'd say the game Alter Ego might have been that way, although from what little I remember that was more of a weird social experiment than an adventure game. Anyway, if you've got some modern examples of such games please post them here, because I'd love to check them out.
I haven't played it, but from reviews it sounded like Choices: And The Sun Went Out matched Dankrio's criteria.
Just discovered this thread about 1 1/2 months ago - Very grateful for it and for your continuous contributions to it, PoL. I love adventure games (wouldn't mind to see some more classic Point'n'Click releases though - or rather Point'n'Tap on Touch Devices ) and guess it's just today's gaming world that most of them get little attention: Top Hits on PC are always shooters or RPGs and also TA's Hot Games list is always full of RPGs, Puzzle games, Roguelikes etc - With the exception of the Telltale IP Games which are rather interactive movie/decision-making/QTE games instead of the classic brainteaser adventures that were so popular in the 90s. I'm trailing off ... Anyway, really love this thread and happy it seems to be coming back to life a bit more again lately. And really impressive PoL has been posting cool tips here since 2011 P. S.: Especially thanks for suggesting Maze: Subject 360, that game was a blast!
Also know of a recently released adventure not mentioned here yet. Wasn't sure if I should post about it though because of some of the stuff happening and said in the game. Yet it's a classic PnC adventure (regarding the mechanics) and available in the App Store. Puzzles aren't very hard mostly and the translation is a bit clunky (dev is french and the translations aren't basically wrong but the English often sounds pretty weird - Suppose they translated pretty literal, word by word). Anyway, the game is probably by far not for everyone. It's about a colorblind boy who wants nothing more than to see colors. You go through different chapters of his life (teenager, twen, thirties) - So far so harmless but the "humor" is pretty crass and there are some pretty disgusting things and themes in the game (the main char meets a domina, talks about awful fetishes, one chapter in some dream/hallucination world he is extremely small and must get entry into a female thingamajig - But a crab louse living there won't let him in so he has to get rid of it somehow ......) I was pretty surprised Apple allowed the game into the App Store at many points (at least it's 17+) and wouldn't buy it again (besides the sick stuff, puzzles and conclusion were pretty underwhelming) but it's an adventure game after all, maybe some people like it more than me. So here's the link for anybody still interested: Désiré Just dont kill the messenger
Couple more games: Mystery of Rivenhallows In Her Mind Adventure Zoom Air Space Game In Her Mind is a re-release of Escape From In Her Mind, which frankly was pretty buggy at the time. Hopefully they've cleaned it up a lot so it's actually playable. Also, while I haven't played it yet, Adventure Zoom Air Space Game is only 3.2 MB, so either it downloads a bunch of content when you first install it or it might just be a fancy screen saver. Proceed with caution
New Games: Out There Chronicles - Ep. 1; This looks to be a CYOA style game based in the Out There universe. I've not played the original Out There, but it's supposed to be pretty neat. Hopefully this one will be too. Day of the Tentacle Remastered; If you don't know what this one is, then I question how big of an adventure game fan you really are
The Mystery of Haunted Hollow 2 - Final Chapter Coming Fall of 2016 We wanted to share with everyone here that's into Adventure games & Point & click games that the 2nd Chapter of Haunted Hollow 2 is coming out this Fall! Some of you played the original game, but check out the thread here for screenshots, and our Fanpage! We think this one will be even better than the original! http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=3883220#post3883220
Checked out the trailer, and it looks really interesting. I honestly don't remember playing part 1, but since I have it I'm now going to have to download it to my device and try it out
Don't think it's mentioned here yet. Funny little adventure (has been out for PC for quite some time yet if I'm not mistaken). Not too hard but funny/odd sense of humor. It's not extremely long (around 2 1/2 - 4 hours, depending on your playing style) but I'm glad I gave it a shot - Really liked it: Bulb Boy
This is good to hear, because this game is on my short list to try (seeing as I've already got it installed on my device).
Hey everyone! Just a quick note to let you know that our latest game, Return to Grisly Manor, is now live on the iOS, Android, and Amazon App Stores! This game was in development for a little over two years - it's nice to finally be able to show it off! It is our largest game by far, about 3X the size of our previous game, The Lost City. Hopefully you'll get a chance to check it out. And sincere thanks for all the support over the years, it really keeps us going! Warm regards, Joe
Of course I was delighted to hit the buy button. My only disappointment is that this release was not mentioned in the newest "out now" thread on the main page. I hope that oversight will be addressed so that more people will be aware of this game from one of my favourite developers.
As always you rock! Will buy as soon as I re-fund my iTunes account. For those who fear the search feature, here's a link: Return To Grisly Manor
Return to grisly manor was really great. I was glued to my iphone until i finished it. I love all of the apps by fire maple games. This was right there with the others in terms of quality
