Does the AppShopper app work too or is that out of date? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it possible to filter by genre on the actual App Store at one time?
Not sure about the app - I always just go to the site. I do believe you could filter on the App Store (maybe you still can somehow) but since the developers set the categories themselves there's not enough consistency.
It's rather rough around the edges, but I'm enjoying this one due to above-average difficulty. I'm pretty far through, I'd guess two-thirds, but have been completely stuck for the last few days. I almost never seek out hints, but have to admit I've been periodically checking AppUnwrapper's work-in-progress walkthrough to see if she's caught up yet to where I'm stuck.
Finished The Secret of Chimera Labs. Let me know if anyone needs help. For me this is a solid 3rd tier game. Good enough for some of the puzzles to get into my head, but lacking the sophistication or polish to really stand out. Pros: - Relatively long game time - Some difficult puzzles Cons: - Buggy: encountered inventory, audio and UI bugs, but nothing that prevents completion - Graphics are decidedly low-detail - Rife with misspelled words and grammatical errors - One puzzle had an element of misdirection that felt inconsistent with everything else I've seen from this developer
Which Daedalic game(s) available for iOS have you all played? Which was your favorite? Least favorite? I played and enjoyed Edna and Harvey. Wonder if they'll port the sequel over eventually. I hope to try Deponia after hearing so much about it. A New Beginning also looks interesting. Not sold on what I've seen of Whispered World.
I've only played Edna & Harvey and Munin (I know the latter is not an adventure game). Loved Edna & Harvey, and Munin was actually pretty cool as well if you like puzzle games. I have Deponia, but unfortunately I only have an iPad 2 so it doesn't run on my device. I think AppUnwrapper has tried pretty much all of the adventure games from them, so you might want to check that website for reviews and such.
I have played several Daedelic games myself. Edna and Harvey was the first one, and I enjoyed it thoroughly, and definitely got stumped a few times, i am embarrassed to add. Thank goodness for a walkthrough. I downloaded The Whispered World, mainly on account of the fact that I played it on PC several years back, and wanted to experience this one on the iPad. It is still on my "to be played" list. I didn't download Deponia yet, mainly because it is priced a little higher than I would like ($11.99 Cdn), and I have heard of a bug that some people have experienced in late stages of the game. Also, I am concerned that it has not been updated in over a year. I am currently playing Dead Synchonicity, and enjoying it thus far. This one is quite reasonably priced. I have also downloaded A New Beginning.
Favorite adventure/puzzle games? I've been meaning to do this for awhile, in the interest of discovery. I'd love to see some of your lists, perhaps we can turn each other onto a previously missed gem or two. These are mostly classic point-and-click adventure, with a little puzzle & interactive fiction mixed in. I left out some favorites that arguably didn't fit the genre. First, my absolute favorites. These are simply amazing adventure/puzzle games that utterly got into my head. Machinarium Riven The Room trilogy Hadean Lands Year Walk Her Story realMyst Hiversaires The following are also excellent adventure/puzzle games that I've loved. Forever Lost trilogy The Last Door Windosill Oquonie Blackbar The Minims (re-release) The Silent Age 1+2 Monument Valley Night & Day An an honorable mention to Frotz and Lost Treasures of Infocom. Wonderful, classic stories but for me the touchscreen isn't the ideal interface.
I keep forgetting to play Windosill now that I have an iPad! And nice to see others on here loved Her Story.
For those that are interested, we just released the trailer for our next game, A Short Tale - The game is in the very final stages of testing and should be submitted quite soon.
You'll definitely want to keep an eye out for this one. It's got all the devious puzzle-ness of the Forever Lost games but a completely different tone.
Even though we haven't released A Short Tale yet, we were simply too impatient so are already working on our next adventure game. It's called Solus: AE and we've just started a thread for it here - http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=279500
Our latest adventure, A Short Tale, will be released on the 11th of february! http://www.glitchgames.co.uk/a-short-tale-releasing-11th-february/
Awesome! Not that this should come as much of a shock, but if you guys liked Glitch Games' Forever Lost series (and shame on you if you didn't), then you'll probably enjoy this one as well. Completely different tone, but same level of insane puzzly goodness.
You don't have one of my top favorite games on your list. I can't remember the name but Eric or App will remember haha
