Not sure how realistic or creepy this could be when it only weighs in at 102 MB, but I thought this sounded kind of interesting: Wardwell House.
Great suggestion! I just picked it up for $5.99, and the rest of the chapter downloads are currently free. So, no charge for the current "IAP." So far, it's a pretty good game. It's a pretty big file though. Right up there with Fahrenheit.
I initially thought this looked promising, but ended up rage-deleting it out of frustration at the navigation scheme.
Lost Horizon looks kind of interesting, I'll check out the clip posted in the game thread. I don't claim to be a typical adventure gamer, but I have an inherent dislike of 3rd person perspective in adventure games. I usually grow frustrated of guiding an avatar around the screen, and am often creeped by uncanny-valley cutscenes. For me it works better in a non-realism setting like Machinarium (which I loved) or The Last Door. Hmm, I feel a longer post coming on about favorite adventure games.
The Room 3: what an utterly amazing game. This has to be in my all-time top two or three iOS games. At first I was a little disappointed in the lack of thingamajig type puzzles (as found in the original), but this game more than makes up for it with the broader scope, long running length and more developed plot. I loved the many nods to Myst and Riven, and if these have been widely pointed out I've missed it. Did anyone else notice the "red page" tucked into a book on the study desk? And of course, The Craftsman's obvious resemblance to Gehn.
I would agree that the Gamebook Adventures tend to be of a better quality, but keep in mind that the stories in Fighting Fantasy are 15-20 years old. Unfortunately not all writing ages well
I just wanted to drop a quick note here to say that we've just announced a little bit about our next adventure game. A lot of people have been asking about what our next game would be, specifically asking if it would be Metus, the sci-fi game we teased ages ago. Metus was going to be our next game after FL3 however we decided that we wanted a short break before working on it and went ahead with a smaller game, this turned out to take longer than we expected ( as it always does ) and so we wanted to let people know what we were working on. Well, here it is - http://www.glitchgames.co.uk/portfolio/a-short-tale/ It's not finished yet and so we don't have a release date or anything but we hope to have that info soon.
Thanks! We hope to have a beta available at some point soon however we're not going to give a date yet, as us and dates hasn't always worked out that well in the past There's also a very short blog post about the game here however it doesn't really say anything that I didn't just say in my post
A new game by inertiaSoft is out. It's been out a few weeks actually, but I didn't see it mentioned here. Facility 47 It's much more like Darkmoor than Margrave manor, which is good. You can play a free version, then unlock if with a purchase, if you wish. Appunwraps has a walkthrough out too.
I bought and completed it. I quite enjoyed it and hope the second part is coming soon. I thought you guys did a pretty good job with it. I didn't even mind the runner sequence.
Facility 47 I played it a week or two ago and liked it. I was a little disappointed that given such an interesting setting (reminiscent of Carpenter's "The Thing" and the X-Files "Ice" episode) it wasn't more immersive or suspenseful, but I still enjoyed it. For me this was a solid 3rd tier adventure game.
The Secret of Chimera Labs came out yesterday (from the developer of Mystery on Telescope Hill and Adventure Beyond Time).
Any of you fellow adventure game fans know whether the iOS version of The Longest Journey is worth getting? I know the game is considered something of a classic but am not sure if the iOS port is well done. Also, it stinks how Secret Files Tunguska no longer works on iOS 9.2. I bought it and never got around to playing it and now I may never be able to unless the developer fixes it and brings it back to the App Store, which seems doubtful.
I downloaded the game quite some time back, but unfortunately, apart from starting it, I haven't had a chance to play the game completely yet. Yes, I do have quite the backlog of games to play through, especially with so many good adventures being released lately. The reviews n the AppStore are all over the place, with some bugs being reported, and others having an excellent experience. One concern that I do have is that there have been no updates to the game since late November, 2014.
How do you guys go about finding the new adventure games in the deluge of releases that is the App Store?
My completely inelegant way is to scan the new releases on AppShopper.com every day. Unfortunately you can't filter it down to just adventure games, but you can select Games as a filter. The down side is that there could be 200-300 entries in a given day, which makes it rather difficult to find the couple of entries a week that are adventure games. Of course I do this for different reasons, and just happen to come across the new adventure games in my searching.
