Maybe for some but once again I'll voice I'm one that enjoys hidden objects within a game. Puzzle after puzzle gets very repetitive for me and HO's gives it more of variety. Such as the Awakening-MF games that I'm finally playing. Too few HO's among the tons of puzzles but they do give a break in the game from all the figuring it with your mind out stuff that's constant in every screen. I understand some people would like to eliminate HO's completely but to me they're just as important. I even enjoy just HOG's (w/o the puzzles). And no, I'm not a third grader, I just enjoy casual games after a hard day of wracking my brain at work.
Nothing wrong with a straight HoG. I like 'em all... well, except for games that are basically a series of mini-games. I've never been too fond of that setup. But all the other combinations (straight adventure, adventure / HoG, straight HoG, or any combination with mini-games) and you can count me in.
Wow, Alone In The Dark is not a continuation of the franchise but an actual port of the original game! I don't remember enough about it to say whether it's really an adventure game or not, but it could be worth checking out just for nostalgia's sake, especially since I believe it's considered one of the first true PC horror games (probably won't seem so scary now, though).
alone in the dark is not playable for me,can't start the game and select, only work up and down, anyone with same problem?does anyone testing this gemes before posting on appstore?
It's considered the first 'survival horror' game, there were plenty of earlier horror titles. In the same way that Mario 64 defined 3D controls, AitD defined the survival horror staples with pre-rendered backgrounds instead of an actual 3D world, fixed camera, direction dependent controls, etc... At the core it has a lot of similarities to an adventure title, and at the time considered itself to be one; however, it is now considered enough of a departure from typically adventure games to be the progenitor of it's own genre.

Awwww Elahroo is so cute! I'm downloading now bc the graphics look amazing. Off to play! Forget it....this game needs a hint system of some sort because I've been walking around forever unable to do anything. My pals who asked me to find their friends took off. I'm about to do the same. Another waste
I don't quite understand what you're getting at, but I was able to play it just fine. And by "just fine" I mean I was able to get in and start walking around, at which point I slowly and mercilessly got eaten by something that crashed in through a window. The control scheme is inadequate to say the least, and the game as a whole feels very clunky. Also, while I realize the intent of this release was most likely to entice people that experienced the game the first time around, I think those are the only people that are going to like it. If nothing else maybe they could have taken the "same game play, modern look" approach? Boy is this game ugly
The Alex Hunter game looks interesting, appreciate the post. Is it Alawar that won't zoom on some games though? Not sure although some games (not necessarily Alawar) seem to have zoom on the Touch device than when using the iPad or it will play better. Assuming they're more geared for the Touch in those case's.
I'm surprised there aren't a ton of Memorial Day sales. Not that I have anything particular on my mind.....the escape games are at an all time low now as well. Eric I think you should develop the ultimate adventure game!!! We can all help with storyline lol better yet , Chateau the sequel hahaha
It has actually been a dream of mine for a long time (like since grade school) to write an adventure game. Technically I even have some of the skills now since I am a programmer, and I have in fact dabbled in writing my own engine once or twice - the closest to completion was a DOS one I wrote in college. I just seem to have this slight problem with finishing things. I thought at one point Glitch Games was considering offering up their Forever Lost engine at a consumer level, and maybe if they do I'll consider delving into actual development again. My biggest fear, though, is that after all the criticism I've offered other adventure games over the years, what if I can't make one that's any better
Has anyone tried Cynfan's Quest yet? It has an old fashioned PC adventure game look to it, but $6.99 from an unknown developer is a bit much for me.
Eric. Here's another new game. I'm just about to begin playing... The Lost Ship
Give me a list of adventure games that feature completely controllable characters, a great story, and take a long time to complete. Thanks. I appreciate all the help I get from TA users.
What are you looking for in 'completely controllable'? Would Guybrush Threepwood count? A Final Fantasy protagonist? A child of Bhaal? The Deus Ex boys? Not being facetious. Once I know what kind of freedom in playable characters matters most to you, I can probably come up with some titles that fit the bill.
