The issue I have with episodic games is that it sometimes takes what seems like forever for subsequent parts to come out. Only Telltale seems to be fairly quick with their releases as The Wolf Among Us already has two parts out. Also, a related issue is that one wonders whether all the parts will even get funded and released for some games. I assume the second part of Broken Sword 5 will get released but how about the multiple parts to Republique? It's supposed to have 5 parts. Speaking of episodic adventure games, just played A Darker Shade of Red. Found it fantastic with the only complaint being that it was woefully short. Hope the developer has part two coming fairly quickly because I want more and would gladly pay a decent sum for the complete saga because part 1 has me hooked.
Beta Testers wanted - for point-and-click adventure Hey guys, I'd like to reach out to this thread to see if I can get some experienced, or willing, beta testers who specifically enjoy point-and-click adventure games. We're looking to send our beta out in the next few days, hopefully, and would love to get some of you guys on this test for us. The game is called "Mount Olympus." It's very similar to our previous game Tesla's Electric Mist, that we released last year. Or more of you may know the Fire Maple Games, it's a lot like those. Here's a link to the game description with the video trailer: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=212109 We will be doing an IOS only beta (but the game will be released to android as well). So, if you have IOS devices, and willing to give good feedback, send me an private message via TouchArcade. Thanks, Tyler iCOOLgeeks
Some Bulkypix games on sale: Runaway: A Twist of Fate - Part 1 Runaway: A Twist of Fate - Part 2 Runaway: A Road Adventure Yesterday
A Darker Shade of Red is free so one really can't complain. The Wolf Among Us is similar to a comic book (I personally am not a fan of comic books) and thus I put it in a different category than adventure games. I prefer to have and am happy to wait for a quality game. If something comes out too fast, there is a good chance there will be bugs and it's not quality.
Sorry if this is redundant, but I don't remember A Darker Shade of Red ever being linked here, so there you go!
How are the Runaway games? That's a good price. Wondering if I should buy them all or just the first one. Apparently the installed size of the first Runaway is 2.3 GB. Wow, that's large. Broken Sword is only 1.7, Yesterday only 1.2 GB. This is why I went for the 32 GB iPad instead of the 16, which would fill up in no time with games of that size.
I haven't played the Runaway games yet, but I bought the first part of Twist of Fate when it was on sale last time and decided to by part 2 and Road Adventure this time just because. I figure even if they aren't great, I've paid more than $3 for a single game I didn't like before. I would go insane with anything less than 64 GB. I'm still trying to rearrange what's on my device on a weekly basis.
Is your device filled with mostly games or do you have lots of other space hogging apps? Also, there's another Runaway game that's on sale called "Hidden Runaway." Looks like it's part of the same series. The app description kind of makes it sound like a remake or re-imagining of the original though but I'm not sure.
Mostly games. I do have a few utilities, though I don't think they take up much room, and some photos which are mostly screen shots of the games I review. It's definitely pretty much games. Hidden Runaway takes place in the same "universe" but it is mostly a hidden object game. I wasn't very impressed with it, especially since they released it before any of the Runaway ports. But, I still have faith that the actual adventure games are going to be good.
Were the Runaway Games like this on the PC? I got the chopped up to release inferior version feel when I bought them all during the last sale. Unlike most adventure games which present a relatively large area for the player to explore before transporting him to the next segment, Runaway had relatively few rooms in each segment which when solved cuts abruptly to a cartoon cutscene which transports the player to the next location, rinse and repeat. It gave a very disjointed feel, which was why I stopped playing them...
I actually never played them on the PC either. My first experience with any games from this developer was playing Yesterday on the iPad, and I thought they did a good job with that. I'm kind of disappointed to hear that sort of critique about the games, because I always thought the PC versions were fairly highly regarded.
I haven't played the Runaway games, and don't intend too, but Yesterday is the same way, very disjointed. Plus, all there titles seems to crash like crazy on my iPad 2. Yesterday was worth $0.99 though.
I guess Yesterday didn't come across that way to me. I thought it flowed along pretty nicely, and I don't recall having any problems with it crashing.
Yeah, I too found it disjointed. The plot was something right out of a Broken Sword game but Broken Sword would have done it better. I had issues with it flickering during movie sequences on my iPad. Don't know what that was about.
I wonder if there's any chance at all that someone would port Grim Fandango to iOS. I'd love to play that game again. A sequel of course would be preferred but I won't get my hopes up. A Day of the Tentacle remake would also be awesome.
LucasArts have already ported the first two Monkey Islands, so you never know, but Grim Fandango was one of the reasons they stopped making adventure games (good reviews but poor sales) so I suspect it's unlikely. I thought it was a fantastic game and would love to play it again also. Btw, the designer of both GF and DooT was Tim Shafer, who just released the first half of a new adventure game for PC/Mac called Broken Age. Check it out if you haven't already -- it's really good in that old-school adventuring way. Cheers.
