Doing well. Finally got to dig into a couple of non-hidden object adventures. I finished up Lost Echo, which wasn't too bad though it felt more like a novel with a few interactive cut scenes than an adventure game. Right now I'm working on In Fear I Trust, which looks cool and has an interesting premise, but I'm really not sure how I feel about 3D engines and first person adventure gaming. I'm still going to stick with it for a while yet, though. So what have you been up to?
I was playing some escape games for awhile bc I got tired of Big Fish etc. They all started feeling too similar I'm excited about Broken Sword. It's about quality not quantity. I feel many developers are rushing these days to get their games out and they end up being cr*p. I would rather pay for a quality game than waste time weeding out the junk. My fingers are still crossed that there will be a sequel to one of my all time favorites! Name the game.......... Pepper and some others may know my verdict is up in the air re:3D engines/first person adventure games. I just started In Fear but haven't gotten far enough to finalize judgement. I'll let you know once I finish.
Have you tried Cognition Episode 1? The down side is that the engine is a bit rough, but it's actually a pretty cool game otherwise. I hear what you're saying about BFG, and G5 is kind of the same way. Thankfully I don't think I get to go through nearly as many games as some of you guys (at least not adventure games), so the format hasn't gotten old for me yet
SkyGoblin's The Journey Down: Chapter One is now free after a price drop This game is usually ranked high among adventure games
Currently playing through Episode 1 of Broken Sword 5. Liking it so far but I liked the previous two I played and completed multiple times (the first two). I hope that they remake parts 3-4 for iOS at some point because I never had the opportunity to play either one. My question is: Are there other third person (preferably) adventure games on the app store that are as good story wise as the Broken Sword series? I'm not a fan of Telltale's Monkey Island games but maybe Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us are better? I downloaded and tried Hollywood Monsters but the story was lacking and I lost interest.
I liked Cognition Episode 1. It's a bit buggy, but the story is good. Yesterday was a great game. I know it's by the same people that did Hollywood Monsters, but I think you'll find this one much more entertaining. Lost Echo isn't bad, though it's a lot more story than puzzle solving. There's also one called Something Age, though I'm drawing a blank at the moment. If I can remember the name I'll post it, because at least for a while it was free and it had a neat time travel mechanic where you had to bounce back and forth between two time periods to solve the puzzles.
I think the game that you are referring to, PointOfLight, is The Silent Age, Part 1, and my apologies for not knowing how to post the link to the AppStore for this game. I totally agree that it is excellent, a little on the easy side and not that long, but thoroughly enjoyable. The good news is that apparently the developer has procured enough funding to make more episodes of this game.
That's it, thanks! Here's the link: The Silent Age. You're right about it being a bit short and slightly on the easy side, but for free it's still a lot of fun.
E- I have come to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of 3D engines. I don't think I will continue playing IFIT. It's not user friendly (or maybe I haven't got the hang of it yet) and I find myself getting frustrated and dizzy. I'm going to try the game you mentioned. In the meantime BRING IT ON CHATEAU! Why haven't those devs made a sequel or similar game? It was such a success! Sigh....
Jules Verne (mystery island) and last king of Africa are both great. Also 1112, fire maple games and chateau lol Eric what was that game I asked about ages ago that I couldn't remember the name of...you go up different floors and need to save the daughter from zombies or infected people or something? There are different rooms....
I haven't played them but classic adventure game ports for The Last Express, Gemini Rue and Beneath a Steel Sky seem like they would be more plot/story based than newer games.
I heard that they have funding for the second part. May have to wait a while but I enjoyed the game and it's simplicity and smooth look got me hooked. I'm playing Philia - the sequel to Elansar at the moment. Though the "hints" in the game (bout 4) aren't much help apart from 1 which gives you the exact answer. I wonder what FMG has in store for their next game?
I haven't gotten back to IFIT yet since my first time playing, but I don't think it' just you (though I'll admit it hasn't made me dizzy yet). I do find it a bit hard to maneuver, and worse yet it can be difficult to select items in the scene to pick up or interact with. I think the reality of it, though, is that such problems will always exist when you try to play a 3D adventure style game with a 2D interface like a touchscreen or a mouse. I'm truly beginning to understand why the majority of 3D shooters use a simple mechanic like running into things to activate them. Now IFIT with the new Oculus Rift technology could be pretty sweet...
While you've listed some pretty decent options here (aside from 1112, which I didn't particularly care for), none of them are 3rd person. That is, of course, assuming that by "3rd person" the OP meant Sierra style games, which I don't think technically qualify as 3rd person since you're not watching the action from over the shoulder of your character. Then again, I'm not expert in terminology. Are you talking about the one that was free where you're in an apartment building and you're trying to find an antidote for whatever has infected the people? If so I"m actually in the same boat as you where I don't remember the name of it. It was a fun little game, though, albeit a lot shorter than The Silent Age even.
How is the game A Journey Down (Episode 1)? Looks interesting and very Grim Fandango-like (loved that game) based on the art style. Also, do you guys think the iPad Mini Retina is big enough for playing the adventure games we all love? I ask because I like the size and the fact that you can get double the capacity for the same price as a smaller capacity iPad Air is appealing as well but if it doesn't work well for adventure games, I will probably avoid it.
I really enjoyed A Journey Down. It's not particularly long but it's definitely quality. I think the second one is meant to be coming out soon? I play adventure games on my Mini (non-retina) and haven't had a problem. The only thing that doesn't seem to work well on the Mini is text-heavy games that haven't been tested for it. Cheers.
