Awesome! If I had a real Android device I'd go right now and get it. Sadly the two I do have don't run a whole lot of anything useful.
Hey guys, I just found the thread for the TA Forums Game of the Week! (Dec 6th). http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=169307 Tesla's Electric Mist came out this week. ***Completely off iOS topic*** Here is something that Al Lowe sent out to one of his newsletter groups this morning. If you love humorous adventure games on the PC/Mac platforms (at least I presume Mac at this point) this should be of interest to you: If you've ever bought a game on Steam, I need your help! Replay Games has a new adventure game called "Fester Mudd" coming out soon. It's a game that really should be on Steam, but it won't be -- unless you help "green light" it! Go to Steam via the link below and vote. Then, when Fester is released, play it. It's a hoot! It's an old-time adventure game that reminds me a lot of my game, Freddy Pharkas, Frontier Pharmacist -- probably because Josh Mandel helped write the dialog for both games! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/updates/108161841/1354556129
Time Trap - Hidden Objects is currently free. If you download it, you need to go into it with the mindset that it is nowhere near the caliber of a Big Fish or G5 offering. That being said, every time I load it up to see if I'm ready to delete it I end up playing two or three levels and then deciding to keep it. So for free I would definitely recommend picking it up.
Thanks for sharing this. I checked out the video and it looks like it will be a lot of fun, so I voted for it. I just wish Steam didn't have that stupid security thing so I have to get a special code every time I log in with a different browser. How annoying. Anyway, maybe we'll see this game come over to the iOS platform some day.
I feel that developers need to understand that storage on an iPad is extremely limited. I was interested in games like The Last Express, Final Fantasy Tactics and Balder's Gate, but find it tough to free up 2x installed size space for these gigabyte behemoths, and even when I do I have to delete them before I complete any of them as I need to reclaim the storage space.
You should have gotten a 64 GB iPad. I have tons of games on mine and storage has never been an issue.
I'm a developer, and I'm feeling pressured to build for the larger retina graphics, thanks to the devices getting bigger retina screens, and everyone who gets one of those devices expects every thing they download to be retina enabled, etc. All the big game publishers have flat out told me that they only publish iPad retina enabled games, because that's what people and Apple want. As the developer, I have to balance what's best for the game, and for the majority of my users over what's best for the very few who have the latest and greatest. In addition, Apple, Nook, and Amazon are all pushing the devs to build for the bigger devices, but yet they want universal apps and not two and three versions (which would be silly), but yet having a file download that's litterally 10 times larger than an older device would require is ridiculous too. So it feels like a no win for the devs. The original size for iOS was 480x320, then jumped up to 1024x768 (iPad 1) and, retina iPhone at 960x640. And now, retina iPad at 2048x1532. For comparisons sake my latest game was released at the iPhone Retina sizing. Here's what its size would be at all three sizes: - Original size - would have been 40Mb. - iPhone Retina - the size we chose 160Mb. - iPad Retina - 800Mb. Here's the crazy part, if I make it a Universal game, and go with iPad Retina images, then that means that the file is 800Mb, even for the guy running an old iPhone 3gs or iPod touch 3rd gen. That sucks for those guys to have to use up 10x the space they should for graphics their device won't even use. Apple should come up with a way that the devs provide one Universal app, with images at all sizes, but when the user downloads it from Apple, they only get the images that their device needs, as opposed to all images regardless. This would be the best method. The current choice, is one universal where someone gets the shaft (big guy gets small graphics, or small guy gets big file). Or, the dev provides 2-3 versions of the game (original, HD, HD+ or whatever), sad thing there is the end user still suffers, because in these cases if they have different devices, they don't get multiple versions of the game, just the one they bought, so they're older devices still suffer if they bought the HD+ version, or vice versa. Sorry for being long winded. It's a topic the bugs me. Especially when a user looking at my game asks if it'll be iPad Retina enabled because they have a new iPad, and now that's all they want. Yeah, let me just screw the majority of all my other users to satisfy your desire for crisper graphics.
You either have ample time to finish your games or don't really have many games on your device. I have a 64 GB iPad and a 32 GB iPod Touch (both actively supporting my gaming habit) and I'm constantly deleting stuff from both of them. Now I realize the other option could be that I just have way too many games, but that's pretty much a given.
However, Apple does tell people who are still using those older devices that they will end up running into issues eventually. One can't even upgrade to the latest iOS on an older device. It's common sense...if you want to play the latest games then you will need the latest technology. Happens with game systems too. However, with that being said, there should be a better way to compress the files bc to justify spending $599 on a 32GB iPad for games every 2 years or so is ridiculous.
You have a ridiculous amount of games lol I play and delete if I don't like I delete. I'm the queen of deleting games if they don't capture me haha if I do like one, I play until I'm done. However, I have a ton of games sitting on here now that I'm just not in the mood to play. Btwn my iPhone and 64GB iPad, space isn't a problem.
I meant to pick that up ages ago but completely forgot, feel bad that I'm only remembering now when it is free. Although, it seems to have IAPs for hints, is that normal? That just seems to scream broken game design to me. But maybe that's just me.
The difference, though, is that most game consoles have a 4-5 year life span, whereas there is a new iOS device every year. I'm pretty sure console gaming would have never taken off if everyone would have had to buy a new Nintendo every year and a half. Never has a truer statement been uttered on this thread. I kept hemming and hawing on this one... sometimes it pays to be indecisive
Sorry Eric, this is a much truer sentiment than your excess of games. Apple has always pushed the "get a new iDevice" fix to people's woes, and retina displays while gorgeous; are pigs as far as art assets go.
The Curse game had the same IAP setup on its release. I hope this is not a future design style for many developers, as it is always extremely annoying when I have found it, especially in purchased games.
