    Yep, me too.

In fact the only HOG I kind of liked was the Treasure Seekers. But I find the hunting for completely irrelevant objects a distraction and annoyance.

Me too. Teagan..have you played any of the microids Egypt Prophesy/Heliopolis and Atlantis stories?

That's the kind of immersive game I'd like to play.

I need a good adventure game to get my quest teeth into!

Nor the reason for a timer such as in 7th Gate.

Btw, I'm one for a quality hog game. Some of us still like those. :)
Treasure Seekers, Mystery of the Crystal Portal, etc. More please...

Depths of Betrayal should be in US app store soon. It's by the same developer as Treasure Seekers and Mystery of the Crystal Portal. Gameplay is identical with an interesting storyline and quite long playing time (at least for me). Like most CE games there is a bonus chapter at the end.

I think you will enjoy it.

Wont be getting 7th Gate then unless you can turn off the timer. I want to relax and unwind with a good game not stress out because I'm running out of time

Thanks for the heads up on Depths of Betrayal. I'll keep watch for it. These types are one of my main hunger in gaming.

And yea, 7th Gate had no way to shut the timer off as far as I could tell. It reverted me back to the previous scene to do over when I ran out of time. Like I was being punished or something...heh.

That saves on the 'throwing the iPad against the wall in frustration' costs as well...:D

After playing Yesterday, I can't even look at a BFG. They all look the same to me these days. I would love a sequel to Chateau!!!!

You know, I'm starting to feel that way about hidden object games in general. I tried playing Letters From Nowhere again today to see if I could finish it up, and I was actually getting kind of bored with it. The problem with HoGs is that aside from the mini-games, there basically the same thing over and over again: find list of objects and repeat. At least Treasure Seekers mixes it up a bit with the whole "key object" concept, but it's still really the same thing. It was nice having a game like Yesterday where you were continually discovering new scenes and solving new puzzles and not even having to search for all kinds of hidden objects. I'd love to see so many more of this type of game come to the iOS platform, even if they were all ports. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that someone will develop an iOS player for Adventure Game Studio, because that would make tons of free adventure games available to us.

That's how I've always felt about HOGs. I have bought only a couple BF games, and neither one interested me for more than a few minutes.
It still feels like a sloppy, lazy way to add content to a game. Give me actual puzzles to solve.

It's especially not fun on a small screen, btw.

Edit: Antrim Escape's type of hidden objects were actually fun, bc it was more about finding objects you needed for puzzles, rather than just random stuff in a photo of random stuff.

I think I'm done with HOG's. I started that other one Case files the other day but gave up as it was just the same old searching for useless irrelevant objects as I said before.

The last BFG I played and kind of enjoyed was Empress of The Deep.

I tend to stay away from BFG's as they are all pretty much the same when it comes to HOG's.

I loved Antrim escape games. They were very good.

I don't know if anyone ever bothered trying this one: Adventure Time - Legends of Ooo: Big Hollow Princess, but it's actually not too bad. The game isn't very long, but it actually has a decent sense of humor. Not 100% sure it's worth 99 cents, but at least it's not another HoG.

I can't help but wonder how many people visit this thread when looking for hogs or perhaps to discuss and are totally mistaken with the negativity for them.

I'll probably be flamed but still going to post that perhaps that's reasoning why there has only been the same handful of posters since the start of the thread?

add: really not meaning to start anything of sorts but it does give the thread a bad pulse on itself when posting their disdain for hogs.

The thing is, the title of the thread is "List of Adventure Games". Many would argue that HoGs aren't even considered adventure games, and to be honest I would be one of those, or at least as far as older HoGs are concerned. With things like the Treasure Seekers series they certainly feel a lot more like adventure games, but as far as I'm concerned an adventure game is either "interactive fiction" like the old Zork games or something something like a Yesterday style game. Adventure games should be puzzle solving and talking to NPCs, not hunting through a bunch of scenes for tons of unrelated objects. The main reason I even started adding HoGs to the list way back when this started was because there weren't a whole lot of true adventure games coming out on the iOS platform at that point. It's still predominantly HoGs, no doubt, but it's getting better.

Considering the title of the thread doesn't mention HOGs, I'm not sure how many pple come here only to be dissapointed when pple voice their opinions re: a particular game or genre. I personally like the small group of regulars here. There's no drama, people are respectful and I think the list that PointofLight has maintained is an excellent resource.

At one time adventure games were hogs though but games evolve and its to be expected. But my point was the negativity towards them. Ah well, maybe its time for a thread dedicated to "Only HOG's".

Anyway, my last post on the subject. Thanks for keeping it mature.:)

  20. I don't think there's anything wrong with people voicing their opinion on a game or type of game. The HOGs have still been included in the list. Actually, every BFG game has been added, and there are more of those than anything else. I think some of us are just frustrated that games like Yesterday only come around once in a while, and HOGs come out on a weekly basis, or even more often.

No one here is telling anyone not to play or discuss HOGs, just expressing that we don't enjoy them as much as the other games. Or just tired of them.
Some of us like room escape games, while others not so much. Doesn't mean we can't discuss them here.
