Sadly, it appears as though they've gone "out of business". Wabo Studios actually had 2 or 3 games in the App Store if I remember correctly, and now they aren't even listed at all. In addition they no longer have a web page. They still have a Twitter account, but it hasn't been active since January. Guess it's a good thing I still have Dead Escape on my iPod Touch!
That's so weird. And such a shame. I never bought it bc of the complaints about some bugs, but kept hoping they'd fix it up in the future. Looked like a promising game.
From what I played it was a rather interesting game. Kind of like The Walking Dead meets adventure game... before they made The Walking Dead into an adventure game, of course. The main bug I ran into, which of course was a doozie, was that the save didn't seem to work properly. That's why I stopped playing it, but I kept my fingers crossed that they would fix it up as well.
On the other hand, maybe they didn't make enough money to spend the time fixing the bugs. Indie development is a tricky thing. I have a friend that's made some awesome indie games, and he had one in development that was going to be extremely cool. Unfortunately he just couldn't make a go of it, so now he's working for someone else to make ends meet instead of tending to his own stuff. Actually, I know a lot of stories like that. It's the sad reality of an overcrowded market that's so easy to get into. Of course, there's also the slim chance they just pulled the game until they get the bugs fixed, but I have a feeling that's not the case.
But once the game is released, why not leave it in the app store and make whatever they can off of it? Unless it's an issue of who would get the money if the company no longer exists?
They would have to continue to pay Apple's developer fee ($99 or $299 per year), and they may have decided it wasn't worth it.
Well, that gets back to the prospect that they just don't have the ability or conviction to fix it any more. Don't want to keep it in the App Store and have more unhappy customers. Truth be told, if they don't intend on fixing it, removing the product is the proper thing to do so they aren't selling a defective product. Guess we'll really never know unless they decide to pop up on this thread.
Here's a new adventure game coming to iPad in August: Edna & Harvey - The Breakout. Link is to promotional web site, since it's obviously not August yet. Looks like there could be some twisted fun to be had with this one.
The use of Harvey the rabbit is interesting and funny, I wonder if they got rights to use that type of character.
I kind of wondered that myself. Since it seems to be some sort of satire or parody I'm sure they have some leeway, and I have no idea how copyrights work around the world.
I would guess they would be subject to the laws in the country of creation based on some of the events I've read about over the years, but I don't really know myself. Regardless, it is a very intriguing looking property.
I'd guess not, but that's the beauty of something like that. It's what makes things like just about every movie from Pixar beautiful - there's enough to keep the kids entertained, but there's also enough to amuse the adults and leave the kids staring at them going "huh?"
