Glad to know I'm not the only one I know the second one had been released for other devices (I know it came out on the PocketPC, and if I remember right the performance was so bad I couldn't play it), but I was positive it had surfaced for iOS devices at one point as well. Can't seem to find any record of it, though, so I guess I was wrong.
Okay, so I checked out the App Store again, and it looks like Chillingo only published the iPhone / iPod Touch version of the first game. Then Anuman picked the series up to publish the iPad version of part 1, and now Microids (the "family friendly" publishing arm of Anuman) has apparently ported the sequel to iOS. They are, in fact, two separate games, however.
Just noticed another DOOORS copycat, 100 Exits. Feels even more rushed than 100 Floors (which has some pretty awful levels as it is). What do you guys think?
Anuman did the deluxe sequel (iPad version released in 2010.) why would they release the sequel again? The new one is return to Mysterious Island 2. Is this an entirely new sequel? NEVERMIND I'm off to purchase!
So to recap the Mysterious Island discussion for those trying to follow it: Jules Verne's Return To Mysterious Island (iPhone, Chillingo) Jules Verne's Return To Mysterious Island - Deluxe Edition (iPad, Anuman) Jules Verne's Return To Mysterious Island 2 HD (Universal, Microids)
And silly me downloaded it thinking Jules Verne MI 2 was a new game. Only to find out "This all looks very familiar" Much like the last one I've already noticed bugs within seconds of playing. Disappointing.
As far as I know RTMI and RTMI2 are two different games. Now RTMI and RTMI - Deluxe Edition are not. So basically you have RTMI for the iPhone and RTMI - Deluxe Edition for the iPad, the same game for two different platforms by two different publishers. Then you have RTMI2, the sequel to RTMI, which is a universal app by a third publisher (which is really just a subsidiary of the second publisher, but that's irrelevant to the game's content). Since RTMI2 is a sequel it will probably feel similar, but it should be a different game. The way to know for sure is based on what you are doing in the beginning of the game. At the beginning of RTMI you're wandering around a beach trying to collect crabs for food, and you don't have the monkey yet.
Sorry to be dense but on the iphone app store there is Return to Mysterious Island, Secrets of the Mysterious Island and Return to Mysterious Island 2 Secrets says its a sequel to Return. Are they all different games or is \return 2 the same as Secrets?
Okay, I missed Secrets because I was just looking up Return To..., which of course wouldn't pull up something starting with Secrets Anyway, if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say Secrets and RTMI2 are the same game. Apparently, instead of just making an iPad version of the sequel, Microids must have decided to do a universal binary. Of course, without playing them I won't know for sure. I actually have Secrets, but I honestly don't remember playing it. As I look back in my list of games that's pretty sad, because apparently I actually reviewed Secrets at one point. Okay, so I went back and looked up my review, and apparently I liked Secrets just as much as the first one. It is a direct sequel, actually picking up right where the first one left off. I'll drop a note to my Anuman rep to see if I can find out what the deal with RTMI2 is.
Just sent out an email so I'll let everyone know if I get a response about what's going on with the games.
Something in the Jules Verne game has been updated. Secrets size is 704mb and RTMI2's size is 1.4 gb. Might be retina art, I suppose.
RTMI2 has iPad support in general, which Secrets didn't. I have a sneaky suspicion that otherwise it's the same game, though.
Ahh, it must be that doubling thing I don't use much. I saw that Secrets had iPad listed in the requirements and didn't put much more thought into it. The screenshots on RTMI2 are much better, and that is what lead me to believe retina art.
Sorry, by "iPad support" I probably was thinking graphics, which is basically what you said. Either way, I'm sure it was the move to universal that bumped the size of the game up. Of course, there won't be any way to know for sure unless someone from the developers' side answers the question for us.
I purchased the new Jules Verne game last night. If its the same I'm going to be pizzed. The story starts differently according to the description. Off to play and I'll let you all know Looks to be the same game. They added a cartoon intro. It keeps crashing and doesn't work right. However it's identical to Return to MI! Rip off! I'm so annoyed!
Yes Teagan, at first I thought...Okay so similar beginning, but instantly recognised the same scenario. "Jep go be a good monkey and get me a bandage oh and don't forget to stuff yourself with food...oh and what was that sound? D'ya hear that?" Then as I wandered round, what I thought was a bug (as all the items were locked on auto) actually took me ages to tap tap and release them to the inventory box. Alas, now it's all looking very familiar. I mean the beginning can't be exactly the same. Surely? For the first time ever, I feel compelled to ask for a refund. They ought to have said that despite it's "release" date of 22 June 2012, it's actually a new version of the exact same game. I'll be interested to know what the developers say...if anything. We all seem to be equally as confused and somewhat disappointed.
New Big Fish game, but it seems like I've seen it before-even the URL for Appshopper is odd.... Vampire's Saga: Pandora's Box Vampire's Saga: Pandora's Box HD I'll post some impressions tonight or tomorrow.
