Just noticed that Atlantis The New World HD by Microids is on sale. This wasn't even on my watch list so it comes as a nice surprise

If you get it let us know how it is. I've played an Atlantis game put out by Microids on the PocketPC platform and I didn't care for it, but I don't think it was the same game.

I will give it a go. I do like this game mechanic. Really enjoyed the secrets of the lost cavern but it was buggy and there was one about ancient egypt. Glad to see they aren't a doing them as a series but the file is huge

Again I played the PocketPC version of both The Secret Of The Lost Cavern and the Egypt one, and I didn't really care for either of those as well. I might have liked Lost Cavern but there was something about it that really bugged me (it's been a while since I played so I forget). The Egypt one for me was just boring.

Looking at the screenshots I presume that it will be the same as the above and the ones with Dracula and Nostradamus do you may want to give it a miss.

That's the thing, though - I have enjoyed the Dracula games that I've played so far, so it's not necessarily the format that's the problem. For 99 cents I might just break down and buy it for kicks.

The Microids/Anuman games are very hit or miss for me. They tend to get very repetitive in scenes and action, and I tend to delete them after a short while.

Assuming you're talking about the hidden object games, I would tend to agree with that. Their "true" adventure games can be fairly interesting, but what usually bugs me about them is that their navigation system is horrible, and it's real easy to get lost. Not a good feature for an adventure game to have.

I haven't yet, but I really want to. It's on my "near future" list.

I prefer the extended versions. I've played three I think and really enjoyed them but they are more for relaxation than getting the grey cells buzzing. I did play 20000 leagues under the sea which wasn't extended and hated it. Couldn't wait for it to finish

Ashes & Roses has dropped in price and I'm intrigued so it may be worth a punt

Bought and downloading now. Must have missed the price increase, though, because I'm almost positive when it was first released it was 99 cents. Either way it's mine now :)

Don't know if anyone has any aspirations for writing a cool 3D adventure game, but currently you can get the free version of Unity 3D with an upgrade for both iOS and Android development for free as well. The offer expires today (sorry, would have posted sooner had I known), but I don't think the license runs out, so even if you're just toying with the idea, go pick it up now: Unity 3D store.

I wouldn't know where to start but I have ordered the Raspberry Pi for my son so you never know I may get the programming bug

You were right. The price went up a couple of days ago. Very crafty. Looks like a sale but in reality it's just gone back to the original price.

So what is a Raspberry Pi (besides a theoretically delicious dessert)?

I wonder if the price increase was intentional. I don't think he normally does stuff like that.

I don't mind. He has looked after us in the past and will be good to leave a review. There are none on the UK App Store

Raspberry Pi, from what I can see, is a credit card sized computer with USB ports to plug in mouse and keyboard. It's to encourage kids to program games and such like. Like in the old days when you used to input thousands of lines just to get a smiley face to say hello

Just checked out the web page. Interesting. It would be nice if they actually had pictures on their site, though, so I didn't have to go to one of the resellers to see what it looks like. Anyway, hope your son has fun with that. Personally, I would be too afraid that my kids would lose something that small :)

The good thing is its only £30 which means just about everyone can afford it. As long as it helps him then it's a good idea. Educational disguised as fun

That is true. Kind of reminds me of the program Playstation started one time where you could get a simplified PS1 dev kit for like $100 (if I'm remembering my facts right). The caveat was that you could only play games designed with the dev kit on the dev kit, but at least it let people that would not be able to afford true console development get a taste of what developing for consoles was like.
