Knowing England, that probably was our summer

  2. My cable's out, so I'm playing Cryptic Caverns. Enjoying it a lot. Only drawback is the occasional loading screen. But other than that, great game! :)

So cryptic caverns is good? I won't be tossing away money? Seems to be a trend lately lol

Question: I downloaded the free version of VooDoo by BF and finished it. I didn't delete it bc I was waiting for it to go on sale and didn't want to start the game over. It went on sale but the IAP wasn't on sale??? Thus, I downloaded the full version app that was on sale. PROBLEM: how do I get the free version to recognize that I purchased the full version (yes, I clicked "already purchased within the game but it did not recognize my purchase)? I refuse to start over and am extremely annoyed with this BS!

I thought that the IAP purchase and the full game were two separate entities and it won't recognise that you have bought the full game on the IAP.

Cryptic Caverns is worth the 69p. Hard but good

You can't. And no, you can't blame the dev for that, it isn't their fault either.

Unfortunately Pepper and Ovogame are right. The IAP purchase and just outright purchasing the full are in fact two different things, and from my understanding this is as much an iOS thing as anything else. I've not delved into the technical aspects of it, but I think iOS does a pretty good job of shielding a program's data from other programs, so I'm not sure a developer could make a freemium and purchased title share the same data even if they wanted to.

  7. The devs should at least make their sales coincide -- kinda silly to have only th full version on sale and not the IAP. But yeah, they're two separate things.

I remember being annoyed that the free version of Paladog didn't have a way to unlock the full game from inside, only a separate full version. I had gotten so far with the free version and couldn't see starting over from scratch, so I just never bought the full game.

Ironically, situations like that were what IAP was really designed for in the first place. It was an attempt to make the "shareware" concept viable on the iOS platform. The problem is so many people speak out against it that I think developers are afraid to use it that way because people won't but the full versions of their products. It seems like no matter what Apple does one side or the other isn't going to be happy with how the App Store works.

Speaking of which (and I probably shouldn't jinx this), anyone notice the "app's being modified" problem seems to have vanished a few days ago? I never realized how bad my download habits were until I could start downloading freely again :)

  9. Yeah, people are really strange. I remember when Sacred Odyssey came out and I was glad I could try the game and then continue playing the full game from inside that app, instead of having to download the full version separately. But so many people went nuts over it that Gameloft was forced to make a separate full version.

I had real issues with Sacred Odyssey and the IAP. I did get a refund and purchased the full version. It really put me off IAP but not totally. Especially when there's a sale on:)

I'm still kind of on the fence about IAP myself. I have purchased some items via IAP, but I have as to delete them from my device so I haven't had to go through the potential pains of reinstalling. It just seems like there are still issues happening with IAP that shouldn't be happening, and I don't know if it's Apple's problem or the developer's.

It is a good thing, I know, because you don't have to download big games twice or play the first bit again but they really need to get them sorted out. I would prefer owning a game outright and don't like the fact that some act as though you have not bought the game. Instead it goes through the same buying process and only informs you that you have already purchased it once you enter your password. I have so many games that I lose track of which ones I have

It used to do that on iTunes as well, but at least they fixed that. Unfortunately, assuming it will take them the same amount of time to realize it's a problem on IAP I wouldn't expect the fix for another year or so :(

I agree! If the full version of the app is on sale then the IAP should also be on sale. Do the devs think I want to play the entire game over???
Question: if you do an IAP what happens when they release the full version (stand alone) and stop offering the free version? Something doesn't add up. Why wouldnt the free version recognize that I purchased the full version? So basically my only choice is to pay more money for the IAP? Forget that! Unless a game WOWS me, I won't bother finishing the free version and wait for the full version to go on sale. For some reason I DO recall the IAP reflecting the sale price.

Whether we like it or not, the bottom line is that they are two completely separate applications. It's an independent action on the developer's part to determine when each of them go on sale and for how long. One would think the developers would want to keep things in sync, but that's entirely up to them.
