Once again thanks to everyone that tried to download Brave Beak for me. I don't know what changed, since I haven't heard from the Apple tech guy that was helping me yet, but suddenly I'm now able to download everything that was eluding me over the past few days. On a side note, Octavian, the developer of Brave Beak, dropped me a PM to see if I was ever able to download the game and say he was sorry for not being able to help. First of all, I completely understand that it wasn't his fault in the first place. Second, this is why I love indie developers. They actually CARE about their customers, even when their customers are getting their games for free. Thanks, Octavian! And if any of you guys like Doom style games, check out his product Bastards, which is a Western themed mod of the Doom iOS port. It's actually pretty fun.
No problem, PointOfLight, and thank you for the kind words! I hope you will enjoy Brave Beak as well .
Apple support is bizarre. I've contacted them a couple of times where they told me they couldn't do anything but then shortly after the problem was solved, and I can only guess it was by them. Very confusing.
Well this definitely wasn't shortly. I contacted them Monday afternoon, and it wasn't until around noon today that the problem was fixed. The worst part is that the problem had actually been going on since last Thursday! I would have contacted them sooner, but apparently I'm the only download-aholic that was really affected by the problem.
Big Fish have released Strange Cases: The Tarot Card Mysteries for the iPhone. Seems like it was a former iPad-only release, but I might be remembering wrong. They have also converted another Alawar game to their label-the first Sprill HdO. The Alawar version is not in the store, nor is the second game, that I could find. It seems to me that Big Fish must have purchased a division of Alawar or at least it's catalog, with all these conversions.
I know on the PC / Mac side that Big Fish Games was one of Alawar's distributors, so maybe Big Fish talked Alawar into letting them distribute their games on the iOS side so they could get a bigger iOS library. It still seems weird, though, because I can't believe that the games will do any better under the Big Fish label, and now Alawar has to share the profits with someone besides Apple.
There were a few iOS games that they were already distributing from the games initial release on the App store. I don't have names right now (they are on my computer), but I'm certain I've seen them. It is definitely an odd situation. There are some other people commenting on it in the "To the Rescue 2" thread in the iPad section of TouchArcade.
The sad reality is that we will probably never know, since I don't think anyone from Alawar visits these forums and personal inquiries into the matter seem to go unanswered.
Here's a new game: The Tiny Bang Story HD. I've played this on the PC and it's tough in spots but pretty good. The artwork is fabulous.
Vampire Adalar HD Full Version is a hidden object game that is currently free. The iPhone version is free as well right now.
The main reason it bugs me is because if there really was no good reason for the switch, what else are they willing to do to their customers?
Yep, it looks like their fix was a temporary one. In fact, now it seems like I can't download anything. At least before it was a spotty problem. Guess I need to get with the Apple rep again!
I just don't get why it's flipping out. I've been an addicted downloader since 2008, and other than the occasional hour here or there I haven't really experienced any issues. Now 7 out of the last 8 days has been impossible to do anything. I wonder how seriously Apple is really looking into this problem.
I know the modified message usually comes up if the app has just changed price but not for the length of time it has been taking. I guess they aren't making anything because the apps are usually free but surely the developers must be very unhappy too with lost sales
That's the thing - it's not just happening on free items. I'm trying to buy an iPad game that went on sale for 99 cents and has the same issue. It seems that there's something wrong with their price modification routine in general that's not "unlocking" the items once the price has changed. Very annoying.
