The story was ok but trying to find some of the objects was impossible on the iPhone. It made me laugh that all his helpers seemed to be busty women bursting out all over
Microids catering to it's main audience? I do agree though, the objects were very difficult to find on this platform...wait, that doesn't sound like what I intended to say...I meant the hidden objects, not the busty, bursting women and their assets.
I think James Bond started that trend I do agree that it was pretty tough on the iPhone. Personally, I think a hidden object game was the wrong type of genre for a spy story anyway.
You could hardly miss the bustys! I wanted more puzzles on the game and usually I don't mind HOG but it needed more
I agree, with the caveat that purchasing short stories in the beginning of a development cycle will hopefully lead to longer stories/products being funded down the road. I truly worry about about the "race to the bottom" mindset in our hobby. It seems to lead to things like freemium products, developers dropping iOS products, and the like, which will eventually eliminate the whole thing.
True. People want an awful lot out of a 99 cent product these days, and the bad part is that some developers provide it. Makes an awful big conundrum for the little developer that has to decide if they want to follow suit and crumble under the weight of one game or buck the trend, release a small but solid product for more, then hope they make enough sales to warrant actually developing another title. Either way I think most people lose out on this proposition, which makes me wonder why so many people actually do it. Of course I'm not complaining, because I love games I just don't want to see the flow eventually stop.
I honestly didn't notice the bustys, which means I'm either desensitized or blind, I suppose. I will admit that I only played Spoiler until he was patched up and headed out of the beach house, so perhaps I just missed them. For puzzles, look at the G5E game I referenced earlier this week (releases this afternoon/evening). It looked like it was mostly puzzles.
I've downloaded it but don't know whether to go for the extended version or just the normal one. Is there a great deal of difference?
What game are you referring to? Vampville? Ohhh Spirit of Wandering. I didn't like it but maybe Pepper will. Try Vampville pepper. Chateau was the best $.99 I've ever spent!!!!
Pepper, Teagan, Sorry I am replying so late. I was actually referring to Royal Trouble: Hidden Adventures which unlocks at 9:00 PM Denver-time for me. http://www.g5e.com/games/royal_trouble_iphone It says it is a hidden object game, but looks like it has a lot of puzzles as well (just from the screenshots and a couple of walkthroughs I looked at).
Ah, I had realized that game had been released for anything but the iPad. In the US app store it is only listing the Collectors Edition with IAP unlock. Edit: The standard and Collector's Editions are in the IAP menu--I don't think I have ever seen that before. Sorry for any confusion.
Royal Trouble: Hidden Adventures (G5E) is well worthwhile is you like games similar to the old LucasArts point-and-click adventure games (like Day of the Tentacle and Maniac Mansion). The HdO aspect is used only to find objects to interact with other objects and solve puzzles. It has a built-in hint system if you choose to use it and a decent sense of humor. Free with a $4.99 IAP unlock. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Capcom) is odd, different, and a lot of fun in a way that some Japanese games can be. You are a dead man try to save the fate and save the life of a female character but can only interact with inantimate objects through your ghostly possession and "tricks". It is a unique adventure/puzzle game as far as I have seen in the App Store. Free with chapter unlocks of $.99 each.
I'm hesitant about Royal Trouble so I will wait. Do you enjoy it Paul? I downloaded the Ghost Trick but won't have time to take a look until later thanks for the info
So far I have enjoyed it more than any recent adventure game. It is very refined and I really like the integrated hint system. The graphics are stellar and the storyline is engaging, so far Spoiler (adversarial princess and prince competing to escape, but also it looks like they will become attracted to each other) , and you have to use both characters in tandem to solve some problems (which really reminded me of The Day of the Tentacle). It has a decent streak of humor in it (not uproarious, but funny, none-the-less). If I was rating on a five star system, it would get four out of five stars. Ghost Trick really took me by surprise. It is a lot of fun as well, but in a different way than I have ever seen before.
Okay, I'm officially not buying any games from Alawar any more, and considering not buying any from Big Fish Games either. Here's another convert: Hamlet!. I'm getting really sick of this. Even if I can recover the games it's a pain and just plain annoying.
As far as I know they are still their own thing. If they have been bought out they need to stop publishing things under the Alawar label, but either way they need to get things straightened out so they stop hosing their customers.
I'm with you! I'm done w both companies until they show some good faith. Alawar I am actually done with for good after that rude correspondence. They had no problem taking my money but then they didn't have the courtesy to take the time to explain the situation.
