I thought it was a one button runner type of game but the way the character stops and that perhaps it is a 'left/right/jump' traditional one ? Stingman Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Aug 14, 2012 249 0 0 App / Game Developer The Bay Area http://www.selosoft.com #5 Stingman, Oct 15, 2014 Good question. The game is not a runner. It's a non-traditional platformer. Here's what I mean. There are no virtual controls. Players control Lion Pig by pressing on the right side of the screen to move right. Pressing on the left side of the screen to move left. Swipe in specific directions to wall jump as well as drop from ceilings. The game has a heavy focus on both horizontal and vertical movement and you use your surroundings to complete levels. It's not a traditional platformer where you have left right arrows and a jump button. It's not designed that way so if you are expecting this then I don't want you to be shocked! It is however, very easy to control as even my buddy's 3-year old can play the game. But hey, don't take my word for it : I'm only the developer who is probably trying to make a buck or two. haha. But no in all seriousness Lion Pig is a fun game with no gimmicks or strings attached. Just a fun platformer with a good amount of content and tons of replay value. I will be posting a release video soon as well as a video showcasing the first update including a new level pack for halloween... which... is.... awesome!!! haha In the meantime if you're hesitant: here's 2 promo codes. get em first and if you dig Lion Pig be sure to let me know on the forums here. I'd love to hear others impressions beyond my testers and friends/family (which all love the game ). I'm glad its not a runner and the controls sound interesting so i'll give this a shot. So how would you jump to the right ? Just swipe right i take it ? Sounds a bit different ! It's so perfectly retro, in the most true meaning of the word; it would fit unquestionably in an Atari etc. anthology. Everything, from the clunky but necessarily so animations to the bright, bold blocks that make up the world is a great fix for nostalgia junkies. It might lose a little of the appeal if you didn't see through that era but it's still a worthy game in it's own right. You have two buttons for the most part, left and right, activated by pressing their respective sides of the screen. There's no jump button, you have to use the environment to cross gaps through the use of bouncing pads. Climbing is intuitive with the option to swipe in a direction to leap off quite dramatically. It's very classic, almost Mikey-esque where simplicity is not a negative. I found swimming a touch confusing, though I imagine time will remedy that, other than that, the controls are great. The levels are well-made with a good mix of simple, linear time trial courses interspersed with trickier multi-path levels that force you to pick a path and hope it's the fastest. To complete a level, you need to collect the prerequisite number of gold coins scattered throughout before the exit opens. Your time is judged with medals so there's plenty of replay value; I imagine a few people on here would like the inclusion of a platinum medal though as the golds are not entirely difficult to earn. They're not too easy, you'll certainly restart a few of the levels, but the hardcore among us will probably get gold more often than not. I'm impressed. The character is lovely, from his snort/roar celebration at the end of the level to the clumsy stand at the start of the climbing animation. It looks great and it's handling absolutely fine. The bonus levels are very cool, offering up a challenge compared to the campaign ones; the first threw me, I thought it had glitched initially but it's definitely intentional. I could do with some of the enemy hitboxes being made more obvious - the jellyfish in particular can patrol routes that would be impossible to avoid until you realise that they don't take up the whole space that their sprite does. It's a pretty small issue though. For the price, it's an easy recommend. I don't always feel compelled to keep playing platformers when I start them but I'll certainly come back to Lion Pig. If you like your platformers chunky, retro and charming then I'd keep an eye on this one. Stingman Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Aug 14, 2012 249 0 0 App / Game Developer The Bay Area http://www.selosoft.com #11 Stingman, Oct 15, 2014 I like how Sanuku accidentally discovered one of the emerald coins. There is a hidden emerald coin in each world. If you find all 6 you earn an achievement. It's also a prerequisite for unlocking an upcoming bonus level pack I'm working on. I put them in the initial release so players can discover them and are able to unlock the level pack when it's out. I'm finishing up the first level pack right now (Halloween) and it will be free (no IAP or requirements to play). 6 more levels, and they are very challenging. The game ramps up in difficulty as you play it so after you complete Techno City you should be ready for the Halloween Challenge. Anyhow, stay posted as I'll be posting the Halloween video soon. Also, upon release in the U.S. I will be passing out a couple more promo codes so if you are hesitant you can always try and grab one later. As stated in the previews section, being a child of the 80s/90s I tried to focus on what I loved so much about old school platformers, but really just wanted to do something that catered to mobile and took up 0 real estate on the screen. I'm glad you found some value in my latest creation. Lion Pig is my favorite game I've made to date and I hope others enjoy it, after all that is the point of why I do this in the first place. Thanks again for your kind words. The game is still not yet even released and I already have a halloween update nearly ready to submit which has 6 more levels. And I've begun the 2nd update which will include 6 more levels.
