LineTime, the winner of the 2011 Appbackr hack-a-thon, has just hit the App Store and we'd love for you to check it out. LineTime is a drop-dead gorgeous, smoothly scrollable and zoomable timeline of history using Wikipedia data and images. You can pinch to smoothly zoom out to get an overview of centuries, zoom in to individual days and tap events to see Wikipedia's description of the event. OK, enough of the pitch: check out the 2-minute demo video! I tried this out. The timeline idea is really good, but it needs some tweaks on the presentation. I don't like having to scroll so much though to get to any year, especially a long time ago. There should be a way to input a year to get to it quickly. Another comment is that a bulk of the year's summary seems devoted to what day the year started, etc. Not really something many would probably care about, especially in so prominent a position. I think it could use a few more facts per year as well. It seems to only highlight a few key items that year - perhaps more could be added? I like that it will link you to wikipedia, though it would be nice if it didn't exit the app and could somehow do that within the app. The app has also crashed a couple times. Overall, nice graphics, good idea, but a couple implementation tweaks needed to make it more enjoyable.
