I've said it before, but God of Blades at five stars is the single most questionable review I've read since being a member at TA, maybe even more so than Limbo at three stars. Graphics, sound, mood are all a five, but that's where the high marks stop. The gameplay--need I remind everyone is what counts most--was a three, and that is being generous. With better mechanics it could have been a five star game. Sadly, it wouldn't have taken much either, but an auto runner where you swipe..... swipe..... swipe..... and then swipe again while remaining on a flat plain for every single board is simply not engaging gameplay. It sure was fun to watch, though. I said watch. Funny how if compared to Limbo--graphics, sound, mood--on paper are basically comparable in quality with God of Blades, but with obviously superior gameplay and arguably a more emotional context, but receives a three star rating. In other words, since God of Blades stands where it does basically based on presentation alone, then Limbo should be done the same service.
Previously banned user who seems to be allergic to doing anything other than getting more and more creative with re-registering to post about how much he dislikes TouchArcade.
This isnt a slam at the review (mainly because I havent played the game) but I have to agree the forums are the best part of the site. While I do keep an eye on the front page, about 95% of my purchases are decided by user comments in the threads, not by reviews here or elsewhere. @Eli I feel for you and the staff right now. Its a lose lose situation. People moaning and complaining at every opportunity cant put you in a good mood, and even if you agreed that the score was not a good reflection of the quality of the game, what would people have you do? Force him to change it? Remove the review? You pretty much have no choice but to stand by your guy. I would be pissed if I was thrown under the bus by my boss (or coworker, or whatever he considers you) just for doing my job... Anyways, just wanted to put that out there.
A long, long time ago I used to read reviews in magazines like Zzap64!! where reviews were well written by reviewers you got to 'know'. That really doesn't happen now and it may just be nostalgia on my part but it was great to have full review and then a small piece by the three main reviewers. Eg Julian Rignall liked shooters and I think that that SyntheticVoid chap would like what JR liked etc. On the Internet and websites you don't get that kind of thing and things do seem more throwaway and I tend to use these forums rather than reviews now but I do check metacritic to pick up games I may have missed. Little gems like PUK et al. I disagreed with the Limbo review but I think it would also be nice to see what the main men from the website also think of the game (Eli, Jared and Brad) as part of the review. Reviews are always contentious though. I was disappointed by the Attack of the Spooklings review but still think it's a little beauty in my eyes. Bad reviews to good things happen. It's happened to every Mars Volta album and I still love them all.
How do you do the puzzle towards the end with the two large blocks and magnets/gravity? I've been stuck on it for days now and I can't see how it's possible??
Here's a pic, I feel like I needed to take a block from the last puzzle, but it won't let me go back now
I wish people would read before posting. resonator is banned from TouchArcade. Yes, a bolded full-stop. He's a previously banned user who keeps coming back and getting banned over and over again. If he was banned for having an opinion (which is a ridiculous notion), that opinion wouldn't be there now. We would've deleted the comment. The comment is still there for everyone to see...but whether "resonator" loves bunnies or despises TA, he's not welcome on TouchArcade. What part of Eli's post didn't make sense?
Spoiler switch magnet ON first. Then, go to the left switch. Turn it ON and turn it OFF RIGHT BEFORE the left block sticks to the ceiling. Since it takes more time for the right block to fly up and stick to the ceiling, turning the left gravity switch off before the right block sticks up top will drop it back down, conveniently prepped for your climbing needs.
Agreed. My heart sunk a little when I read TA's review of Spooklings; I like that game a lot. I get a "Rõnin'' vibe when I think about it, though. That game recieved a similar review to Spooklings. The devs then went away, took the feedback on board and came back with an update which improved the game beyond all measure. In an ideal world, TA and other review sites would take another at look at it, but the mobile world moves so quickly there's hardly time to look back at all. The Spooklings dev has already taken the feedback from reviews and players; and I'm sure like Rõnin will continue to improve with updates, and I'm looking forward to it. Sorry for the off topic. Limbo is great, y'all.
He has a long history here, hes had multiple warnings and finally was banned a while ago. I'm not going to go into details but believe me a lot of users were happy when he finally left. He then kept creating other user accounts and the second we find out his new account that gets banned regardless of whether hes praising TA or not praising it. If you get banned you cant come back under different usernames. Theres no 'x files' story to this, its just a disruptive user from a while back who keeps creating new accounts (and those then get banned).
I bl**dy love Ronin too. Ronin, Limbo and Attack of the Spooklings. 3 out of 5 is the new 5 out if 5 in my house.
Ah thanks, that's a bit of a difficult one to not only work out but actually do once you've worked it out
I read the review, and thought it was pretty good, just a different opinion than my own. I loved this game on the 360, and gladly picked it up again on iOS. While I haven't played through it all the way, I've enjoyed it so far. Even my wife has been getting into it.
Every time I've got stuck I've had a look at the various walkthroughs on YouTube. Helped me many a time
Hey speaking of users that aren't 'here' anymore, where the hell has Connector been? Did he post so much that his internet connection melted or something?
